Psalms 2

1 Therefore did the heathen rage, and the nations imagine vain things?

Pourquoi se démènent les peuples, et les nations agitent-elles de vains projets?

2 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers gathered themselves together, against the Lord, and against his Christ;

Les rois de la terre se soulèvent, les princes se liguent ensemble contre l’Eternel et son oint.

3 [saying], Let us break through their bonds, and cast away their yoke from us.

"Brisons disent-ils leurs liens. Rejetons loin de nous leurs chaînes!"

4 He that dwells in the heavens shall laugh them to scorn, and the Lord shall mock them.

Celui qui réside dans les cieux en rit, le Seigneur se raille d’eux.

5 Then shall he speak to them in his anger, and trouble them in his fury.

Puis il les apostrophe dans sa colère et, dans son courroux, il les terrifie:

6 But I have been made king by him on Sion his holy mountain,

"C’Est moi dit-il qui ai consacré mon roi sur Sion, ma montagne sainte!"

7 declaring the ordinance of the Lord: the Lord said to me, You are my Son, today have I begotten you.

Je veux proclamer ce qui est une loi immuable: "L’Eternel m’a dit: Tu es mon fils, c’est moi qui, aujourd’hui, t’ai engendré!

8 Ask of me, and I will give you the heathen [for] your inheritance, and the ends of the earth [for] your possession.

Demande-le-moi, et je te donnerai des peuples comme héritage, les confins de la terre pour domaine.

9 You shall rule them with a rod of iron; you shall dash them in pieces as a potter's vessel.

Tu les briseras avec un sceptre de fer, tu les broieras comme un vase de potier."

10 Now therefore understand, you kings: be instructed, all you that judge the earth.

Et maintenant, ô rois, sachez comprendre, tenez-vous pour avertis, juges de la terre!

11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice in him with trembling.

Adorez l’Eternel avec crainte, et réjouissez-vous en Dieu avec tremblement.

12 Accept correction, lest at any time the Lord be angry, and you should perish from the righteous way: whenever his wrath shall be suddenly kindled, blessed are all they that trust in him.

Rendez hommage au fils, de peur qu’il ne s’indigne, et que vous n’alliez a votre perte; car bien vite sa colère prend feu: heureux tous ceux qui s’abritent en lui!
