Leviticus 20
1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
L’Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
2 You shall also say to the children of Israel, If [there shall be] any of the children of Israel, or of those who have become proselytes in Israel, who shall give of his seed to Moloch, let him be surely put to death; the nation upon the land shall stone him with stones.
"Quant aux enfants d’Israël, tu leur diras: Quiconque, parmi les Israélites ou les étrangers séjournant en Israël, livrerait quelqu’un de sa postérité à Molokh, doit être mis à mort: le peuple du pays le tuera à coups de pierres.
3 And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from his people, because he has given of his seed to Moloch, to defile my sanctuary, and profane the name of them that are consecrated to me.
Moi-même je dirigerai mon regard sur cet homme, et je le retrancherai du milieu de son peuple, parce qu’il a donné de sa postérité à Molokh, souillant ainsi mon sanctuaire et avilissant mon nom sacré.
4 And if the natives of the land should in anyway overlook that man in giving of his seed to Moloch, so as not to put him to death;
Et si le peuple du pays ose fermer les yeux sur la conduite de cet homme, qui aurait donné de sa postérité à Molokh, et qu’on ne le fasse point mourir,
5 then will I set my face against that man and his family, and I will destroy him, and all who have been of one mind with him, so that he should go a whoring to the princes, from their people.
ce sera moi alors qui appliquerai mon regard sur cet homme et sur son engeance, et je retrancherai avec lui, du milieu de leur peuple, tous ceux qui, entraînés par lui, se seraient abandonnés au culte de Molokh.
6 And the soul that shall follow those who have in them divining spirits, or enchanters, so as to go a whoring after them; I will set my face against that soul, and will destroy it from among its people.
Pour la personne qui aurait recours aux évocations, aux sortilèges, et s’abandonnerait à ces pratiques, je dirigerai mon regard sur cette personne, et je la supprimerai du milieu de son peuple.
7 And you shall be holy, for I the Lord your God [am] holy.
Sanctifiez vous et soyez saints, car je suis l’Éternel votre Dieu.
8 And you shall observe my ordinances, and do them: I [am] the Lord that sanctifies you.
Observez mes lois et les exécutez: je suis l’Éternel qui vous sanctifie.
9 Every man who shall speak evil of his father or of his mother, let him die the death; has he spoken evil of his father or his mother? he shall be guilty.
Or, tout homme qui aura maudit son père ou sa mère, doit être mis à mort: il a maudit son père ou sa mère, il a mérité son supplice.
10 Whatever man shall commit adultery with the wife of a man, or whoever shall commit adultery with the wife of his neighbor, let them die the death, the adulterer and the adulteress.
Si un homme commet un adultère avec la femme d’un autre homme, avec la femme de son prochain, l’homme et la femme adultères doivent être mis à mort.
11 And if any one should lie with his father's wife, he has uncovered his father's nakedness: let them both die the death, they are guilty.
Si un homme cohabite avec la femme de son père, c’est la nudité de son père qu’il a découverte: qu’ils soient mis à mort l’un et l’autre, ils ont mérité leur supplice.
12 And if any one should lie with his daughter-in-law, let them both be put to death; for they have wrought impiety, they are guilty.
Si un homme cohabite avec sa bru, que tous deux soient mis à mort: Ils ont agi désordonnément, ils ont mérité leur supplice.
13 And whoever shall lie with a male as with a woman, they have both wrought abomination; let them die the death, they are guilty.
Si un individu cohabite avec un mâle, d’une cohabitation sexuelle, c’est une abomination qu’ils ont commise tous les deux; qu’ils soient punis de mort, leur supplice est mérité.
14 Whosoever shall take a woman and her mother, it is iniquity: they shall burn him and them with fire; so there shall not be iniquity among you.
Celui qui épouse une femme et sa mère, c’est une Impudicité: on les fera périr par le feu, lui et elles, pour qu’il n’y ait point d’impudicité parmi vous.
15 And whoever shall lie with a beast, let him die the death; and you shall kill the beast.
Un homme qui s’accouplerait avec un animal doit être mis à mort, et l’animal, vous le tuerez;
16 And whatever woman shall approach any beast, so as to have connexion with it, you shall kill the woman and the beast: let them die the death, they are guilty.
et une femme qui s’approcherait de quelque animal pour qu’il s’accouple avec elle, tu la tueras ainsi que l’animai: ils doivent être mis à mort, leur supplice est mérité.
17 Whosoever shall take his sister by his father or by his mother, and shall see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness, it is a reproach: they shall be destroyed before the children of their family; he has uncovered his sister's nakedness, they shall bear their sin.
Si un homme épouse sa sœur, fille de son père ou fille de sa mère, qu’il voie sa nudité et qu’elle voie la sienne, c’est un inceste, et ils seront exterminés à la vue de leurs concitoyens: il a découvert la nudité de sa sœur, il en portera la peine.
18 And whatever man shall lie with a woman that is set apart [for a flux], and shall uncover her nakedness, he has uncovered her fountain, and she has uncovered the flux of her blood: they shall both be destroyed from among their generation.
Si un homme cohabite avec une femme qui souffre du flux, et découvre sa nudité, Il a mis à nu la source de son sang, et elle-même a dévoilé cette source; lis seront retranchés, tous deux, du sein de leur peuple.
19 And you shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's sister, or of the sister of your mother; for that man has uncovered the nakedness of one near akin: they shall bear their iniquity.
Tu ne découvriras point la nudité de la sœur de ta mère ni de la sœur de ton père; car c’est dévoiler la nudité de sa parente: ils doivent en porter la peine.
20 Whosoever shall lie with his near kinswoman, has uncovered the nakedness of one near akin to him: they shall die childless.
Celui oui cohabite avec sa tante, a découvert la nudité de son oncle; ils doivent expier leur péché, ils mourront sans lignée.
21 Whoever shall take his brother's wife, it is uncleanness; he has uncovered his brother's nakedness; they shall die childless.
Et si quelqu’un épouse la femme de son frère, c’est une impureté; il a découvert la nudité de son frère, ils demeureront sans lignée.
22 And keep you all my ordinances, and my judgments; and you shall do them, and the land shall not be aggrieved with you, into which I bring you to dwell upon it.
Observez donc toutes mes lois et tous mes statuts, et les exécutez, afin qu’il ne vous rejette point, ce pays où je vous mène pour vous y établir.
23 And walk you not in the customs of the nations which I drive out from before you; for they have done all these things, and I have abhorred them:
N’Adoptez point les lois de la nation que je chasse à cause de vous; car ils ont fait toutes ces choses, et je les ai pris en aversion,
24 and I said to you, You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you for a possession, [even] a land flowing with milk and honey: I [am] the Lord your God, who have separated you from all people.
et je vous ai dit: c’est vous qui prendrez possession de leur sol, et moi je vous le donnerai pour que vous en soyez possesseurs, ce pays ruisselant de lait et de miel. Je suis l’Éternel votre Dieu, qui vous ai distingués entre les peuples.
25 And you shall make a distinction between the clean and the unclean cattle, and between clean and unclean birds; and you shall not defile your souls with cattle, or with birds, or with any creeping things of the earth, which I have separated for you by reason of uncleanness.
Distinguez donc le quadrupède pur de l’impur, et l’oiseau impur d’avec le pur; ne souillez pas vos personnes par les quadrupèdes, les oiseaux et les différents reptiles de la terre, que je vous ai fait distinguer en les déclarant impurs.
26 And you shall be holy to me; because I the Lord your God [am] holy, who separated you from all nations, to be mine.
Soyez saints pour moi, car je suis saint, moi l’Éternel, et je vous ai séparés d’avec les peuples pour que vous soyez à moi.
27 And [as for] a man or woman whoever of them shall have in them a divining spirit, or be an enchanter, let them both die the death: you shall stone them with stones, they are guilty.
Un homme ou une femme chez qui serait constatée une évocation ou un sortilège devront être mis à mort; on les lapidera: ils ont mérité leur supplice."
