Esias 38
1 And it came to pass at that time, [that] Ezekias was sick even to death. And Esaias the prophet the son of Amos came to him, and said to him, Thus says the Lord, Give orders concerning your house: for you shall die, and not live.
En ce temps-là, Ezéchias fut atteint d’une maladie mortelle. Le prophète Isaïe, fils d’Amoç, lui rendit visite et lui dit: "Ainsi parle l’Eternel: Donne tes ordres à ta maison, car tu vas mourir; tu ne te rétabliras pas."
2 And Ezekias turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying,
Ezéchias tourna la face vers le mur et implora l’Eternel,
3 Remember, O Lord, how I have walked before you in truth, with a true heart, and have done that which was pleasing in your sight. And Ezekias wept bitterly.
en ces termes: "De grâce, Seigneur, daigne te souvenir que j’ai marché devant toi fidèlement et d’un cœur sincère, et que j’ai fait ce qui te plaît!" Puis il éclata en longs sanglots.
4 And the word of the Lord came to Esaias, saying, Go, and say to Ezekias,
L’Eternel s’adressa alors à Isaïe en lui disant:
5 Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father, I have heard your prayer, and seen your tears: behold, I [will] add to your time fifteen years.
"Va, et parle ainsi à Ezéchias: Voici ce que déclare l’Eternel, le Dieu de David, ton père: J’Ai entendu ta prière et vu tes larmes, je prolongerai ta vie de quinze ans.
6 And I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians: and I will defend this city.
Je te délivrerai ainsi que cette ville de la main du roi d’Assyrie, et j’étendrai ma protection sur cette ville.
7 And this [shall be] a sign to you from the Lord, that God will do this thing;
Et ceci est le signe que t’accorde l’Eternel pour te prouver qu’il accomplira la parole qu’il a prononcée:
8 behold, I will turn back the shadow of the degrees [of the dial] by which ten degrees on the house of your father the sun has gone down—I will turn back the sun the ten degrees; so the sun went back the ten degrees by which the shadow had gone down.
je vais faire revenir de dix degrés en arrière l’ombre qui était descendue sur le cadran solaire d’Achaz." Et l’ombre revint de dix degrés en arrière sur le cadran où elle était descendue.
9 THE PRAYER OF EZEKIAS KING OF JUDEA, WHEN HE HAD BEEN SICK, AND WAS RECOVERED FROM HIS SICKNESS.
Cantique d’Ezéchias, roi de Juda, composé à l’occasion de sa maladie, maladie dont il guérit:
10 I said in the end of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I shall part with the remainder of my years. (Sheol h7585)
Moi, je disais: par suite de la ruine de mes jours, je vais franchir les portes du Cheol; je suis frustré du surplus de mes ans. (Sheol h7585)
11 I said, I shall no more at all see the salvation of God in the land of the living: I shall no more at all see the salvation of Israel on the earth: I shall no more at all see man.
Je disais: je ne verrai plus Dieu, mon Dieu, dans le pays des vivants; relégué chez les habitants du néant, je ne poserai plus mon regard sur les humains.
12 [My life] has failed from among my kindred: I have parted with the remainder of my life: it has gone forth and departed from me, as one that having pitched a tent takes it down [again]: my breath was with me as a weaver's web, when she that weaves draws near to cut off [the] thread.
Ma demeure est déracinée, emportée loin de moi comme une tente de berger; j’ai vu trancher ma vie comme par le tisserand qui m’aurait violemment séparé de la trame: du matin au soir tu m’auras achevé!
13 In that day I was given up as to a lion until the morning: so has he broken all my bones: for I was so given up from day [even] to night.
Je tournais mon attente vers le matin, mais, comme un lion, on a brisé tous mes os: du matin au soir tu m’auras achevé!
14 As a swallow, so will I cry, and as a dove, so do I mourn: for mine eyes have failed with looking to the height of heaven to the Lord, who has delivered me, and removed the sorrow of my soul.
Ainsi qu’une hirondelle plaintive, je gémissais, je roucoulais comme une colombe; mes yeux s’élevaient languissants en haut: Seigneur, je suis accablé, garantis-moi!
Que dirai-je? II a parlé et il a agi: pendant toute mon existence, je marcherai avec humilité au souvenir de l’amertume de mon cœur.
16 [Yes], O Lord, for it was told you concerning this; and you have revived my breath; and I am comforted, and live.
Seigneur, c’est là le devoir de ceux qui vivent, de tous ceux qu’anime comme moi le souffle de vie. Tu m’as rendu force et santé.
17 For you have chosen my soul, that it should not perish: and you have cast all [my] sins behind me.
Voici que ma profonde amertume s’est changée en paix; et toi, dans ton amour, tu as préservé mon âme de la fosse de perdition, car tu as jeté derrière toi toutes mes fautes.
18 For they that are in the grave shall not praise you, neither shall the dead bless you, neither shall they that are in Hades hope for your mercy. (Sheol h7585)
Aussi bien ce n’est pas le Cheol qui te célèbre, ce n’est pas la mort qui te loue; ceux qui sont descendus dans le sépulcre ne comptent plus sur ta fidélité. (Sheol h7585)
19 The living shall bless you, as I also [do]: for from this day shall I beget children, who shall declare your righteousness,
Le vivant, le vivant, voilà celui qui te loue, comme je le fais aujourd’hui; le père à ses enfants enseigne ta fidélité.
20 O God of my salvation; and I will not cease blessing you with the lute all the days of my life before the house of God.
Eternel, je te dois mon salut; aussi nous ferons résonner nos lyres, tous les jours de notre vie, auprès de la maison du Seigneur.
21 Now Esaias had said to Ezekias; Take a cake of figs, and mash them, and apply them as a plaster, and you shall be well.
Isaïe dit: "Qu’on prenne un gâteau de figues, qu’on l’applique sur l’ulcère, et il guérira."
22 And Ezekias said, This is a sign to Ezekias, that I shall go up to the house of God.
Ezéchias demanda: "À quel signe reconnaîtrai-je que je pourrai monter dans la maison de Dieu?"
