Genesis 11
1 And all the earth was one lip, and there was one language to all.
Toute la terre avait une seule langue et les mêmes mots.
2 And it came to pass as they moved from the east, they found a plain in the land of Senaar, and they lived there.
Etant partis de l'Orient, les hommes trouvèrent une plaine dans le pays de Sennaar, et ils s'y établirent.
3 And a man said to his neighbor, Come, let us make bricks and bake them with fire. And the brick was to them for stone, and their mortar was bitumen.
Ils se dirent entre eux: " Allons, faisons des briques, et cuisons-les au feu. " Et ils se servirent de briques au lieu de pierres, et de bitume au lieu de ciment.
4 And they said, Come, let us build to ourselves a city and tower, whose top shall be to heaven, and let us make to ourselves a name, before we are scattered abroad upon the face of all the earth.
Ils dirent encore: " Allons, bâtissons-nous une ville et une tour dont le sommet soit dans le ciel, et faisons-nous un monument, de peur que nous ne soyons dispersés sur la face de toute la terre. "
5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of men built.
Mais Yahweh descendit pour voir la ville et la tour que bâtissaient les fils des hommes.
6 And the Lord said, Behold, [there is] one race, and one lip of all, and they have begun to do this, and now nothing shall fail from them of all that they may have undertaken to do.
Et Yahweh dit: " Voici, ils sont un seul peuple et ils ont pour eux tous une même langue; et cet ouvrage est le commencement de leurs entreprises; maintenant rien ne les empêchera d'accomplir leurs projets.
7 Come, and having gone down let us there confound their tongue, that they may not understand each the voice of his neighbor.
Allons, descendons, et là même confondons leur langage, de sorte qu'ils n'entendent plus le langage les uns des autres. "
8 And the Lord scattered them thence over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city and the tower.
C'est ainsi que Yahweh les dispersa de là sur la face de toute la terre, et ils cessèrent de bâtir la ville.
9 On this account its name was called Confusion, because there the Lord confounded the languages of all the earth, and thence the Lord scattered them upon the face of all the earth.
C'est pourquoi on lui donna le nom de Babel, car c'est là que Yahweh confondit le langage de toute la terre, et c'est de là que Yahweh les a dispersés sur la face de toute la terre.
10 And these [are] the generations of Sem: and Sem was a hundred years old when he begot Arphaxad, the second year after the flood.
Voici l'histoire de Sem: Sem, âgé de cent ans, engendra Arphaxad, deux ans après le déluge.
11 And Sem lived, after he had begotten Arphaxad, five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Après qu'il eut engendré Arphaxad, Sem vécut cinq cents ans, et il engendra des fils et des filles.
12 And Arphaxad lived a hundred and thirty-five years, and begot Cainan.
Arphaxad vécut trente-cinq ans, et il engendra Salé.
13 And Arphaxad lived after he had begotten Cainan, four hundred years, and begot sons and daughters, and died. And Cainan lived a hundred and thirty years and begot Sala; and Canaan lived after he had begotten Sala, three hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Après qu'il eut engendré Salé, Arphaxad vécut quatre cent trois ans, et il engendra des fils et des filles.
14 And Sala lived an hundred and thirty years, and begot Heber.
Salé vécut trente ans, et il engendra Héber.
15 And Sala lived after he had begotten Heber, three hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Après qu'il eut engendré Héber, Salé vécut quatre cent trois ans, et il engendra des fils et des filles.
16 And Heber lived an hundred and thirty-four years, and begot Phaleg.
Héber vécut trente-quatre ans, et il engendra Phaleg.
17 And Heber lived after he had begotten Phaleg two hundred and seventy years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Après qu'il eut engendré Phaleg, Héber vécut quatre cent trente ans, et il engendra des fils et des filles.
18 And Phaleg lived and hundred and thirty years, and begot Ragau.
Phaleg vécut trente ans, et il engendra Réü.
19 And Phaleg lived after he had begotten Ragau, two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Après qu'il eut engendré Réü, Phaleg vécut deux cent neuf ans, et il engendra des fils et des filles.
20 And Ragau lived and hundred thirty and two years, and begot Seruch.
Réü vécut trente-deux ans, et il engendra Sarug.
21 And Raau lived after he had begotten Seruch, two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Après qu'il eut engendré Sarug, Réü vécut deux cent sept ans, et il engendra des fils et des filles.
22 And Seruch lived a hundred and thirty years, and begot Nachor.
Sarug vécut trente ans, et il engendra Nachor.
23 And Seruch lived after he had begotten Nachor, two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Après qu'il eut engendré Nachor, Sarug vécut deux cents ans, et il engendra des fils et des filles.
24 And Nachor lived a hundred and seventy-nine years, and begot Tharrha.
Nachor vécut vingt-neuf ans, et il engendra Tharé.
25 And Nachor lived after he had begotten Tharrha, an hundred and twenty-five years, and begot sons and daughters, and he died.
Après qu'il eut engendré Tharé, Nachor vécut cent dix-neuf ans, et il engendra des fils et des filles.
26 And Tharrha lived seventy years, and begot Abram, and Nachor, and Arrhan.
Tharé vécut soixante-dix ans, et il engendra Abram, Nachor et Aran.
27 And these [are] the generations of Tharrha. Tharrha begot Abram and Nachor, and Arrhan; and Arrhan begot Lot.
Voici l'histoire de Tharé. Tharé engendra Abram, Nachor et Aran. Aran engendra Lot.
28 And Arrhan died in the presence of Tharrha his father, in the land in which he was born, in the country of the Chaldees.
Et Aran mourut en présence de Tharé, son père, au pays de sa naissance, à Ur en Chaldée.
29 And Abram and Nachor took to themselves wives, the name of the wife of Abram was Sara, and the name of the wife of Nachor, Malcha, daughter of Arrhan, and he was the father of Malcha, the father of Jescha.
Abram et Nachor prirent des femmes: le nom de la femme d'Abram était Saraï, et le nom de la femme de Nachor était Melcha, fille d'Aran, père de Melcha et père de Jesca.
30 And Sara was barren, and did not bear children.
Or Saraï fut stérile: elle n'avait point d'enfants.
31 And Tharrha took Abram his son, and Lot the son Arrhan, the son of his son, and Sara his daughter-in-law, the wife of Abram his son, and led them forth out of the land of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Chanaan, and they came as far as Charrhan, and he lived there.
Tharé prit Abram, son fils, et Lot, fils d'Aran, son petit-fils, et Saraï, sa belle-fille, femme d'Abram, son fils, et ils sortirent ensemble d'Ur des Chaldéens, pour aller au pays de Chanaan; mais, arrivés à Haran, ils s'y établirent.
32 And all the days of Tharrha in the land of Charrhan were two hundred and five years, and Tharrha died in Charrhan.
Les jours de Tharé furent de deux cent cinq ans, et Tharé mourut à Haran.
