Chronicles I 5

1 And the sons of Ruben the firstborn of Israel (for he [was] the firstborn; but because of his going up to his father's couch, [his father] gave his blessing to his son Joseph, [even] the son of Israel; and he was not reckoned as firstborn;

Et les fils de Ruben, premier-né d’Israël (car il était le premier-né, mais, parce qu’il avait profané le lit de son père, son droit de premier-né fut donné aux fils de Joseph, fils d’Israël, mais [Joseph] n’a pas la primogéniture dans le registre généalogique;

2 for Judas [was] very mighty even among his brethren, and one was to be a ruler out of him: but the blessing [was] Joseph's).

car Juda eut la prééminence au milieu de ses frères, et le prince [sort] de lui; mais le droit de premier-né fut à Joseph);

3 The sons of Ruben the firstborn of Israel; Enoch, and Phallus, Asrom, and Charmi.

– les fils de Ruben, premier-né d’Israël: Hénoc et Pallu, Hetsron et Carmi.

4 The sons of Joel; Semei, and Banaia his son: and the sons of Gug the son of Semei.

– Les fils de Joël: Shemahia, son fils; Gog, son fils; Shimhi, son fils;

5 His son [was] Micha, his son Recha, his son Joel,

Michée, son fils; Reaïa, son fils; Baal, son fils;

6 his son Beel, whom Thagla-phallasar king of Assyria carried away captive: he [is] the chief of the Rubenites.

Beéra, son fils, que Tilgath-Pilnéser, roi d’Assyrie, emmena captif: lui était le prince des Rubénites.

7 And his brethren in his family, in their distribution according to their generations; the chief, Joel, and Zacharia.

Et ses frères, selon leurs familles dans le registre généalogique de leurs générations: le chef Jehiel, et Zacharie,

8 And Balec the son of Azuz, the son of Sama, the son of Joel: he lived in Aroer, and even to Naban, and Beelmasson.

et Béla, fils d’Azaz, fils de Shéma, fils de Joël; lui habitait à Aroër, et jusqu’à Nebo et Baal-Méon;

9 And he lived eastward to the borders of the wilderness, from the river Euphrates: for they had much cattle in the land of Galaad.

et il habita au levant jusqu’à l’entrée du désert, du côté du fleuve Euphrate, car leurs troupeaux s’étaient multipliés dans le pays de Galaad.

10 And in the days of Saul they made war upon the sojourners [in the land]; and they fell into their hands, all of them dwelling in their tents eastward of Galaad.

Et, aux jours de Saül, ils firent la guerre contre les Hagaréniens, et ceux-ci tombèrent par leur main; et ils habitèrent dans leurs tentes, dans tout le [pays] à l’orient de Galaad.

11 The sons of Gad lived over against them in the land of Basan even to Sela.

Et les fils de Gad habitèrent à côté d’eux dans le pays de Basan, jusqu’à Salca:

12 Joel the firstborn, and Sapham the second, and Janin the scribe in Basan.

Joël, le chef, et Shapham, le second; et Jahnaï et Shaphath, en Basan.

13 And their brethren according to the houses of their fathers; Michael, Mosollam, and Sebee, and Joree, and Joachan, and Zue, and Obed, seven.

Et leurs frères, selon leurs maisons de pères: Micaël, et Meshullam, et Shéba, et Joraï, et Jahcan, et Zia, et Éber, sept.

14 These [are] the sons of Abichaia the son of Uri, the son of Idai, the son of Galaad, the son of Michael, the son of Jesai, the son of Jeddai, the son of Buz,

– Ceux-ci furent les fils d’Abikhaïl, fils de Huri, fils de Jaroakh, fils de Galaad, fils de Micaël, fils de Jeshishaï, fils de Jakhdo, fils de Buz:

15 [who was] the brother of the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, [he was] chief of the house of their families.

Akhi, fils d’Abdiel, fils de Guni, chef de leur maison de pères.

16 They lived in Galaad, in Basan, and in their villages, and [in] all the country round about Saron to the border.

Et ils habitèrent en Galaad, en Basan, et dans les villages de leur ressort, et dans tous les pâturages de Saron jusqu’à leurs issues.

17 The enumeration of [them] all took place in the days of Joatham king of Juda, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.

– Ils furent tous enregistrés dans les généalogies, aux jours de Jotham, roi de Juda, et aux jours de Jéroboam, roi d’Israël.

18 The sons of Ruben and Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasse, of mighty men, bearing shields and sword, and bending the bow, and skilled in war, [were] forty and four thousand and seven hundred and sixty, going forth to battle.

Les fils de Ruben, et les Gadites, et la demi-tribu de Manassé, d’entre les vaillants, des hommes portant l’écu et l’épée, tirant de l’arc, et instruits pour la guerre: 44 760, en état d’aller à l’armée.

19 And they made war with the Agarenes, and Itureans, and Naphiseans, and Nadabeans,

Ils firent la guerre contre les Hagaréniens, contre Jetur, et Naphish, et Nodab;

20 and they prevailed against them: and the Agaraeans were given into their hands, [they] and all their tents: for they cried to God in the battle, and he listened to them, because they trusted on him.

et ils furent aidés contre eux, et les Hagaréniens et tous ceux qui étaient avec eux furent livrés en leur main; car ils crièrent à Dieu dans la bataille, et il se rendit à leurs prières, car ils avaient mis leur confiance en lui.

21 And they took captive their store; five thousand camels, and two hundred and fifty thousand sheep, two thousand asses, and a hundred thousand men.

Et ils prirent leurs troupeaux, 50 000 chameaux, et 250 000 moutons, et 2 000 ânes, et en hommes, 100 000,

22 For many fell slain, because the war [was] of God. And they lived in their place until the captivity.

car il en tomba morts un grand nombre, parce que la bataille venait de Dieu: et ils habitèrent à leur place jusqu’à la transportation.

23 And the half-tribe of Manasse lived from Basan to Baal, Ermon, and Sanir, and [to] the mount Aermon: and they increased in Libanus.

Et les fils de la demi-tribu de Manassé habitèrent dans le pays, depuis Basan jusqu’à Baal-Hermon, et à Senir, et à la montagne de l’Hermon: ils étaient nombreux.

24 And these were the heads of the houses of their families; Opher, and Sei, and Eliel, and Jeremia, and Oduia, and Jediel, mighty men of valour, men of renown, heads of the houses of their families.

Et ce sont ici les chefs de leurs maisons de pères: Épher, et Jishi, et Éliel, et Azriel, et Jérémie, et Hodavia, et Jakhdiel, forts et vaillants hommes, gens de renom, chefs de leurs maisons de pères.

25 But they rebelled against the God of their fathers, and went a-whoring after the gods of the nations of the land, whom God cast out from before them.

Mais ils péchèrent contre le Dieu de leurs pères, et se prostituèrent après les dieux des peuples du pays, que Dieu avait détruits devant eux.

26 And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Phaloch king of Assyria, and the spirit of Thagla-phallasar king of Assyria, and carried away Ruben and Gaddi, and the half-tribe of Manasse, and brought them to Chaach, and Chabor, and to the river Gozan, until this day.

Et le Dieu d’Israël réveilla l’esprit de Pul, roi d’Assyrie, et l’esprit de Tilgath-Pilnéser, roi d’Assyrie, et il transporta les Rubénites, et les Gadites, et la demi-tribu de Manassé, et les emmena à Khalakh, et à Khabor, et à Hara, et au fleuve de Gozan, [où ils sont] jusqu’à ce jour.
