Proverbs 26
1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
Wie Schnee im Sommer und wie Regen in der Ernte, so ungehörig ist Ehre für den Thoren.
2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
Wie ein Sperling davon flattert, wie eine Schwalbe wegfliegt, so ist unverdienter Fluch - er trifft nicht ein.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool’s back.
Eine Peitsche dem Roß, ein Zaum dem Esel - so gebührt eine Rute dem Rücken der Thoren.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
Antworte dem Thoren nicht nach seiner Narrheit, daß du dich selbst ihm nicht gleichstellest.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
Antworte dem Thoren nach seiner Narrheit, daß er sich nicht weise dünke.
6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, [and] drinketh damage.
Die Füße haut sich ab, Unbill schluckt, wer Bestellungen ausrichtet durch einen Thoren.
7 The legs of the lame are not equal: so [is] a parable in the mouth of fools.
Wie das Herabhangen der Beine von einem Lahmen, so der Weisheitsspruch im Munde der Thoren.
8 As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so [is] he that giveth honour to a fool.
Wie wenn man einen Stein an die Schleuder bände, so handelt, wer einem Thoren Ehre anthut.
9 [As] a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so [is] a parable in the mouth of fools.
Wie ein Dornzweig in des Trunkenen Hand emporschnellt, so ist ein Weisheitsspruch im Munde von Thoren.
10 The great [God] that formed all [things] both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.
Wie ein Schütze, der alles verwundet, so wer einen Thoren dingt und wer Vorübergehende dingt.
11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, [so] a fool returneth to his folly.
Wie ein Hund, der zu seinem Gespei zurückkehrt, so ist ein Thor, der seine Narrheit wiederholt.
12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? [there is] more hope of a fool than of him.
Siehst du einen Mann, der sich weise dünkt, - da ist für einen Thoren mehr Hoffnung als für ihn.
13 The slothful [man] saith, [There is] a lion in the way; a lion [is] in the streets.
Der Faule spricht: Ein Leu ist auf dem Wege, ein Löwe innerhalb der Straßen.
14 [As] the door turneth upon his hinges, so [doth] the slothful upon his bed.
Wie sich die Thür auf ihrer Angel dreht, so der Faule auf seinem Bette.
15 The slothful hideth his hand in [his] bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
Steckt der Faule seine Hand in die Schüssel, wird's ihm sauer, sie wieder zum Munde zurückzubringen.
16 The sluggard [is] wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
Ein Fauler dünkt sich weiser als sieben, die verständig zu antworten wissen.
17 He that passeth by, [and] meddleth with strife [belonging] not to him, [is like] one that taketh a dog by the ears.
Wie einer, der einen vorüberlaufenden Hund bei den Ohren packt, ist, wer sich über einen Streit ereifert, der ihn nichts angeht.
18 As a mad [man] who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
Wie ein Unsinniger, der Brandpfeile wirft, todbringende Geschosse,
19 So [is] the man [that] deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
so ist ein Mann, der seinen Nächsten betrogen hat und dann spricht: Ich scherze ja nur!
20 Where no wood is, [there] the fire goeth out: so where [there is] no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
Wenn kein Holz mehr vorhanden ist, erlischt das Feuer, und wenn kein Ohrenbläser da ist, legt sich der Zank.
21 [As] coals [are] to burning coals, and wood to fire; so [is] a contentious man to kindle strife.
Wie Kohlen zur Glut und Holz zum Feuer, so dient ein zänkischer Mann zum Schüren von Streit.
22 The words of a talebearer [are] as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
Die Worte des Ohrenbläsers sind wie Leckerbissen und dringen tief in des Leibes Kammern.
23 Burning lips and a wicked heart [are like] a potsherd covered with silver dross.
Wie Schlackensilber, womit eine Scherbe überzogen ist, sind feurige Küsse und ein böses Herz.
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;
Mit seinen Lippen verstellt sich der Hasser, aber in seinem Innern hegt er Trug.
25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for [there are] seven abominations in his heart.
Wenn er seine Stimme holdselig macht, so glaube ihm nicht, denn sieben Greuel sind in seinem Herzen.
26 [Whose] hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the [whole] congregation.
Mag sich der Haß in Täuschung hüllen, seine Bosheit wird doch in öffentlicher Versammlung offenbar werden.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
Wer eine Grube gräbt, wird in sie hineinfallen, und wer einen Stein emporwälzt, auf den rollt er zurück.
28 A lying tongue hateth [those that are] afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
Falsche Zunge haßt die von ihr Geknickten, und schmeichlerischer Mund bereitet Sturz.
