Proverbs 16
1 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, [is] from the LORD.
Die Entwürfe des Herzens sind des Menschen, aber die Antwort der Zunge kommt von Jehova.
2 All the ways of a man [are] clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.
Alle Wege eines Mannes sind rein in seinen Augen, aber Jehova wägt die Geister.
3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Befiehl Jehova [W. Wälze auf Jehova] deine Werke, und deine Gedanken werden zustande kommen.
4 The LORD hath made all [things] for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
Jehova hat alles zu seiner Absicht gemacht, und auch den Gesetzlosen für den Tag des Unglücks.
5 Every one [that is] proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD: [though] hand [join] in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
Jeder Hochmütige ist Jehova ein Greuel; die Hand darauf! er wird nicht für schuldlos gehalten werden. [O. nicht ungestraft bleiben]
6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD [men] depart from evil.
Durch Güte und Wahrheit wird die Missetat gesühnt, und durch die Furcht Jehovas weicht man vom Bösen. [O. entgeht man dem Bösen]
7 When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Wenn eines Mannes Wege Jehova wohlgefallen, so läßt er selbst seine Feinde mit ihm in Frieden sein.
8 Better [is] a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
Besser wenig mit Gerechtigkeit, als viel Einkommen mit Unrechtlichkeit.
9 A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.
Das Herz des Menschen erdenkt seinen Weg, aber Jehova lenkt seine Schritte.
10 A divine sentence [is] in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.
Ein Orakelspruch ist auf den Lippen des Königs: sein Mund vergeht sich nicht am Recht. [d. h. im Urteil, im Rechtsprechen]
11 A just weight and balance [are] the LORD’s: all the weights of the bag [are] his work.
Gerechte Waage und Waagschalen sind Jehovas; sein Werk sind alle Gewichtsteine des Beutels.
12 [It is] an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
Der Könige Greuel ist, Gesetzlosigkeit zu tun; denn durch Gerechtigkeit steht ein Thron fest.
13 Righteous lips [are] the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
Der Könige Wohlgefallen sind gerechte Lippen; und wer Aufrichtiges redet, den liebt er.
14 The wrath of a king [is as] messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
Des Königs Grimm gleicht Todesboten; aber ein weiser Mann versöhnt ihn. [d. h. den Grimm]
15 In the light of the king’s countenance [is] life; and his favour [is] as a cloud of the latter rain.
Im Lichte des Angesichts des Königs ist Leben, und sein Wohlgefallen ist wie eine Wolke des Spätregens.
16 How much better [is it] to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
Weisheit erwerben, wieviel besser ist es als feines Gold, und Verstand erwerben, wieviel vorzüglicher als Silber!
17 The highway of the upright [is] to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
Der Aufrichtigen Straße ist: vom Bösen weichen; wer seinen Weg bewahrt, behütet seine Seele.
18 Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Hoffart geht dem Sturze, [Eig. dem Zusammenbruch; so auch Kap. 18,12] und Hochmut dem Falle voraus.
19 Better [it is to be] of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
Besser niedrigen Geistes sein mit den Demütigen, [O. Sanftmütigen] als Raub teilen mit den Hoffärtigen.
20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy [is] he.
Wer auf das Wort achtet, wird Gutes [O. Glück] erlangen; und wer auf Jehova vertraut, ist glückselig.
21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
Wer weisen Herzens ist, wird verständig genannt; und Süßigkeit der Lippen mehrt [d. h. fördert, steigert] die Lehre.
22 Understanding [is] a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools [is] folly.
Einsicht ist für ihre Besitzer ein Born des Lebens, aber die Züchtigung der Narren ist die Narrheit.
23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
Das Herz des Weisen gibt seinem Munde Einsicht und mehrt [d. h. fördert, steigert] auf seinen Lippen die Lehre.
24 Pleasant words [are as] an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
Huldvolle Worte sind eine Honigwabe, Süßes für die Seele und Gesundheit für das Gebein.
25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death.
Da ist ein Weg, der einem Menschen gerade erscheint, aber sein Ende sind Wege des Todes.
26 He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.
Des Arbeiters Hunger arbeitet für ihn, denn sein Mund spornt ihn an.
27 An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips [there is] as a burning fire.
Ein Belialsmann gräbt nach Bösem, und auf seinen Lippen ist es wie brennendes Feuer.
28 A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
Ein verkehrter Mann streut Zwietracht aus, und ein Ohrenbläser entzweit Vertraute.
29 A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way [that is] not good.
Ein Mann der Gewalttat verlockt seinen Nächsten und führt ihn auf einen Weg, der nicht gut ist.
30 He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
Wer seine Augen zudrückt, um Verkehrtes zu ersinnen, seine Lippen zusammenkneift, hat das Böse beschlossen.
31 The hoary head [is] a crown of glory, [if] it be found in the way of righteousness.
Das graue Haar ist eine prächtige [O. zierende] Krone: auf dem Wege der Gerechtigkeit wird sie gefunden.
32 [He that is] slow to anger [is] better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Besser ein Langmütiger als ein Held, und wer seinen Geist beherrscht, als wer eine Stadt erobert.
33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof [is] of the LORD.
Das Los wird in dem Busen [S. die Anm. zu Neh. 5,13] geworfen, aber all seine Entscheidung kommt von Jehova.
