Matthew 18
1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
そのとき、弟子たちがイエスのところに来て言った。「それでは、天の御国では、だれが一番偉いのでしょうか。」
2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
そこで、イエスは小さい子どもを呼び寄せ、彼らの真中に立たせて、
3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
言われた。「まことに、あなたがたに告げます。あなたがたも悔い改めて子どもたちのようにならない限り、決して天の御国には、はいれません。
4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
だから、この子どものように、自分を低くする者が、天の御国で一番偉い人です。
5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
また、だれでも、このような子どものひとりを、わたしの名のゆえに受け入れる者は、わたしを受け入れるのです。
6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and [that] he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
しかし、わたしを信じるこの小さい者たちのひとりにでもつまずきを与えるような者は、大きい石臼を首にかけられて、湖の深みでおぼれ死んだほうがましです。
7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
つまずきを与えるこの世は忌まわしいものです。つまずきが起こることは避けられないが、つまずきをもたらす者は忌まわしいものです。
8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast [them] from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. (aiōnios g166)
もし、あなたの手か足の一つがあなたをつまずかせるなら、それを切って捨てなさい。片手片足でいのちにはいるほうが、両手両足そろっていて永遠の火に投げ入れられるよりは、あなたにとってよいことです。 (aiōnios g166)
9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast [it] from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. (Geenna g1067)
また、もし、あなたの一方の目が、あなたをつまずかせるなら、それをえぐり出して捨てなさい。片目でいのちにはいるほうが、両目そろっていて燃えるゲヘナに投げ入れられるよりは、あなたにとってよいことです。 (Geenna g1067)
10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
あなたがたは、この小さい者たちを、ひとりでも見下げたりしないように気をつけなさい。まことに、あなたがたに告げます。彼らの天の御使いたちは、天におられるわたしの父の御顔をいつも見ているからです。
11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
［人の子は、滅んでいる者を救うために来たのです。］
12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?
あなたがたはどう思いますか。もし、だれかが百匹の羊を持っていて、そのうちの一匹が迷い出たとしたら、その人は九十九匹を山に残して、迷った一匹を捜しに出かけないでしょうか。
13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that [sheep], than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.
そして、もし、いたとなれば、まことに、あなたがたに告げます。その人は迷わなかった九十九匹の羊以上にこの一匹を喜ぶのです。
14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
このように、この小さい者たちのひとりが滅びることは、天にいますあなたがたの父のみこころではありません。
15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
また、もし、あなたの兄弟が罪を犯したなら、行って、ふたりだけのところで責めなさい。もし聞き入れたら、あなたは兄弟を得たのです。
16 But if he will not hear [thee, then] take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
もし聞き入れないなら、ほかにひとりかふたりをいっしょに連れて行きなさい。ふたりか三人の証人の口によって、すべての事実が確認されるためです。
17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell [it] unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.
それでもなお、言うことを聞き入れようとしないなら、教会に告げなさい。教会の言うことさえも聞こうとしないなら、彼を異邦人か取税人のように扱いなさい。
18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
まことに、あなたがたに告げます。何でもあなたがたが地上でつなぐなら、それは天においてもつながれており、あなたがたが地上で解くなら、それは天においても解かれているのです。
19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
まことに、あなたがたにもう一度、告げます。もし、あなたがたのうちふたりが、どんな事でも、地上で心を一つにして祈るなら、天におられるわたしの父は、それをかなえてくださいます。
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
ふたりでも三人でも、わたしの名において集まる所には、わたしもその中にいるからです。」
21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
そのとき、ペテロがみもとに来て言った。「主よ。兄弟が私に対して罪を犯したばあい、何度まで赦すべきでしょうか。七度まででしょうか。」
22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
イエスは言われた。「七度まで、などとはわたしは言いません。七度を七十倍するまでと言います。
23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.
このことから、天の御国は、地上の王にたとえることができます。 王はそのしもべたちと清算をしたいと思った。
24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
清算が始まると、まず一万タラントの借りのあるしもべが、王のところに連れて来られた。
25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
しかし、彼は返済することができなかったので、その主人は彼に、自分も妻子も持ち物全部も売って返済するように命じた。
26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
それで、このしもべは、主人の前にひれ伏して、『どうかご猶予ください。そうすれば全部お払いいたします。』と言った。
27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
しもべの主人は、かわいそうに思って、彼を赦し、借金を免除してやった。
28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
ところが、そのしもべは、出て行くと、同じしもべ仲間で、彼から百デナリの借りのある者に出会った。彼はその人をつかまえ、首を絞めて、『借金を返せ。』と言った。
29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
彼の仲間は、ひれ伏して、『もう少し待ってくれ。そうしたら返すから。』と言って頼んだ。
30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.
しかし彼は承知せず、連れて行って、借金を返すまで牢に投げ入れた。
31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
彼の仲間たちは事の成り行きを見て、非常に悲しみ、行って、その一部始終を主人に話した。
32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
そこで、主人は彼を呼びつけて言った。『悪いやつだ。おまえがあんなに頼んだからこそ借金全部を赦してやったのだ。
33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
私がおまえをあわれんでやったように、おまえも仲間をあわれんでやるべきではないか。』
34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
こうして、主人は怒って、借金を全部返すまで、彼を獄吏に引き渡した。
35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
あなたがたもそれぞれ、心から兄弟を赦さないなら、天のわたしの父も、あなたがたに、このようになさるのです。」
