Matthew 17
1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
Al cabo de seis días, Jesús tomó consigo a Pedro, Santiago y Juan, su hermano, y los llevó solos a un monte alto.
2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
Se transformó ante ellos. Su rostro brillaba como el sol, y sus vestidos se volvieron blancos como la luz.
3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
Se les aparecieron Moisés y Elías hablando con él.
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
Pedro respondió y dijo a Jesús: “Señor, es bueno que estemos aquí. Si quieres, hagamos aquí tres tiendas: una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías”.
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
Mientras aún hablaba, he aquí que una nube brillante los cubrió con su sombra. De la nube salió una voz que decía: “Este es mi Hijo amado, en quien me complazco. Escuchadle”.
6 And when the disciples heard [it], they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
Cuando los discípulos lo oyeron, cayeron de bruces y tuvieron mucho miedo.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
Jesús se acercó, los tocó y les dijo: “Levántense y no tengan miedo”.
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
Levantando los ojos, no vieron a nadie, excepto a Jesús solo.
9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
Mientras bajaban del monte, Jesús les mandó decir: “No contéis a nadie lo que habéis visto, hasta que el Hijo del Hombre haya resucitado.”
10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
Sus discípulos le preguntaron: “Entonces, ¿por qué dicen los escribas que Elías debe venir primero?”
11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
Jesús les contestó: “En efecto, Elías viene primero y restaurará todas las cosas;
12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
pero yo os digo que Elías ya ha venido, y no lo reconocieron, sino que le hicieron lo que quisieron. Así también el Hijo del Hombre sufrirá por ellos”.
13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
Entonces los discípulos comprendieron que les hablaba de Juan el Bautista.
14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a [certain] man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
Cuando llegaron a la multitud, se le acercó un hombre que se arrodilló ante él y le dijo:
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
“Señor, ten compasión de mi hijo, porque es epiléptico y sufre gravemente; pues muchas veces cae en el fuego y otras en el agua.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
Lo llevé a tus discípulos, y no pudieron sanarlo”.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
Jesús respondió: “¡Generación infiel y perversa! ¿Hasta cuándo estaré con vosotros? ¿Hasta cuándo los soportaré? Tráiganlo a mí”.
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
Jesús reprendió al demonio, y salió de él, y el muchacho quedó sano desde aquella hora.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
Entonces los discípulos se acercaron a Jesús en privado y le dijeron: “¿Por qué no pudimos expulsarlo?”
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Les dijo: “Por vuestra incredulidad. Porque ciertamente os digo que si tenéis fe como un grano de mostaza, le diréis a este monte: “Muévete de aquí para allá”, y se moverá; y nada os será imposible.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Pero esta clase no sale sino con oración y ayuno”.
22 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:
Mientras estaban en Galilea, Jesús les dijo: “El Hijo del Hombre va a ser entregado en manos de los hombres,
23 And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.
y lo matarán, y al tercer día resucitará.” Lo sentían mucho.
24 And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute [money] came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
Cuando llegaron a Capernaúm, los que recogían las monedas de la didracma se acercaron a Pedro y le dijeron: “¿Tu maestro no paga la didracma?”
25 He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
Él respondió: “Sí”. Cuando entró en la casa, Jesús se le anticipó diciendo: “¿Qué te parece, Simón? ¿De quién reciben peaje o tributo los reyes de la tierra? ¿De sus hijos, o de los extranjeros?”
26 Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
Pedro le dijo: “De extraños”. Jesús le dijo: “Por lo tanto, los niños están exentos.
27 Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
Pero, para no hacerlos tropezar, ve al mar, echa el anzuelo y recoge el primer pez que salga. Cuando le hayas abierto la boca, encontrarás una moneda de plata. Tómala y dásela por mí y por ti”.
