Mark 8
1 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples [unto him], and saith unto them,
そのころ、また大ぜいの人の群れが集まっていたが、食べる物がなかったので、イエスは弟子たちを呼んで言われた。
2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
「かわいそうに、この群衆はもう三日間もわたしといっしょにいて、食べる物を持っていないのです。
3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.
空腹のまま家に帰らせたら、途中で動けなくなるでしょう。それに遠くから来ている人もいます。」
4 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these [men] with bread here in the wilderness?
弟子たちは答えた。「こんなへんぴな所で、どこからパンを手に入れて、この人たちに十分食べさせることができましょう。」
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
すると、イエスは尋ねられた。「パンはどれぐらいありますか。」弟子たちは、「七つです。」と答えた。
6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before [them]; and they did set [them] before the people.
すると、イエスは群衆に、地面にすわるようにおっしゃった。それから、七つのパンを取り、感謝をささげてからそれを裂き、人々に配るように弟子たちに与えられたので、弟子たちは群衆に配った。
7 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before [them].
また、魚が少しばかりあったので、そのために感謝をささげてから、これも配るように言われた。
8 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken [meat] that was left seven baskets.
人々は食べて満腹した。そして余りのパン切れを七つのかごに取り集めた。
9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
人々はおよそ四千人であった。それからイエスは、彼らを解散させられた。
10 And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
そしてすぐに弟子たちとともに舟に乗り、ダルマヌタ地方へ行かれた。
11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
パリサイ人たちがやって来て、イエスに議論をしかけ、天からのしるしを求めた。イエスをためそうとしたのである。
12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
イエスは、心の中で深く嘆息して、こう言われた。「なぜ、今の時代はしるしを求めるのか。まことに、あなたがたに告げます。今の時代には、しるしは絶対に与えられません。」
13 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.
イエスは彼らを離れて、また舟に乗って向こう岸へ行かれた。
14 Now [the disciples] had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.
弟子たちは、パンを持って来るのを忘れ、舟の中には、パンがただ一つしかなかった。
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and [of] the leaven of Herod.
そのとき、イエスは彼らに命じて言われた。「パリサイ人のパン種とヘロデのパン種とに十分気をつけなさい。」
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, [It is] because we have no bread.
そこで弟子たちは、パンを持っていないということで、互いに議論し始めた。
17 And when Jesus knew [it], he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
それに気づいてイエスは言われた。「なぜ、パンがないといって議論しているのですか。まだわからないのですか、悟らないのですか。心が堅く閉じているのですか。
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
目がありながら見えないのですか。耳がありながら聞こえないのですか。あなたがたは、覚えていないのですか。
19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
わたしが五千人に五つのパンを裂いて上げたとき、パン切れを取り集めて、幾つのかごがいっぱいになりましたか。」彼らは答えた。「十二です。」
20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
「四千人に七つのパンを裂いて上げたときは、パン切れを取り集めて幾つのかごがいっぱいになりましたか。」彼らは答えた。「七つです。」
21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
イエスは言われた。「まだ悟らないのですか。」
22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
彼らはベツサイダに着いた。すると人々が、盲人を連れて来て、さわってやってくださるようにイエスに願った。
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
イエスは盲人の手を取って村の外に連れて行かれた。そしてその両眼につばきをつけ、両手を彼に当ててやって、「何か見えるか。」と聞かれた。
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
すると彼は、見えるようになって、「人が見えます。木のようですが、歩いているのが見えます。」と言った。
25 After that he put [his] hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
それから、イエスはもう一度彼の両眼に両手を当てられた。そして、彼が見つめていると、すっかり直り、すべてのものがはっきり見えるようになった。
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell [it] to any in the town.
そこでイエスは、彼を家に帰し、「村にはいって行かないように。」と言われた。
27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Cæsarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
それから、イエスは弟子たちとピリポ・カイザリヤの村々へ出かけられた。その途中、イエスは弟子たちに尋ねて言われた。「人々はわたしをだれだと言っていますか。」
28 And they answered, John the Baptist: but some [say], Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
彼らは答えて言った。「バプテスマのヨハネだと言っています。エリヤだと言う人も、また預言者のひとりだと言う人もいます。」
29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
するとイエスは、彼らに尋ねられた。「では、あなたがたは、わたしをだれだと言いますか。」ペテロが答えてイエスに言った。「あなたは、キリストです。」
30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
するとイエスは、自分のことをだれにも言わないようにと、彼らを戒められた。
31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and [of] the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
それから、人の子は必ず多くの苦しみを受け、長老、祭司長、律法学者たちに捨てられ、殺され、三日の後によみがえらなければならないと、弟子たちに教え始められた。
32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
しかも、はっきりとこの事がらを話された。するとペテロは、イエスをわきにお連れして、いさめ始めた。
33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
しかし、イエスは振り向いて、弟子たちを見ながら、ペテロをしかって言われた。「下がれ。サタン。あなたは神のことを思わないで、人のことを思っている。」
34 And when he had called the people [unto him] with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
それから、イエスは群衆を弟子たちといっしょに呼び寄せて、彼らに言われた。「だれでもわたしについて来たいと思うなら、自分を捨て、自分の十字架を負い、そしてわたしについて来なさい。
35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.
いのちを救おうと思う者はそれを失い、わたしと福音とのためにいのちを失う者はそれを救うのです。
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
人は、たとい全世界を得ても、いのちを損じたら、何の得がありましょう。
37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
自分のいのちを買い戻すために、人はいったい何を差し出すことができるでしょう。
38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
このような姦淫と罪の時代にあって、わたしとわたしのことばを恥じるような者なら、人の子も、父の栄光を帯びて聖なる御使いたちとともに来るときには、そのような人のことを恥じます。」
