John 19
1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged [him].
そこで、ピラトはイエスを捕えて、むち打ちにした。
2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put [it] on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,
また、兵士たちは、いばらで冠を編んで、イエスの頭にかぶらせ、紫色の着物を着せた。
3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.
彼らは、イエスに近寄っては、「ユダヤ人の王さま。ばんざい。」と言い、またイエスの顔を平手で打った。
4 Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.
ピラトは、もう一度外に出て来て、彼らに言った。「よく聞きなさい。あなたがたのところにあの人を連れ出して来ます。あの人に何の罪も見られないということを、あなたがたに知らせるためです。」
5 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And [Pilate] saith unto them, Behold the man!
それでイエスは、いばらの冠と紫色の着物を着けて、出て来られた。するとピラトは彼らに「さあ、この人です。」と言った。
6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify [him], crucify [him]. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify [him]: for I find no fault in him.
祭司長たちや役人たちはイエスを見ると、激しく叫んで、「十字架につけろ。十字架につけろ。」と言った。ピラトは彼らに言った。「あなたがたがこの人を引き取り、十字架につけなさい。私はこの人には罪を認めません。」
7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
ユダヤ人たちは彼に答えた。「私たちには律法があります。この人は自分を神の子としたのですから、律法によれば、死に当たります。」
8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;
ピラトは、このことばを聞くと、ますます恐れた。
9 And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
そして、また官邸にはいって、イエスに言った。「あなたはどこの人ですか。」しかし、イエスは彼に何の答えもされなかった。
10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
そこで、ピラトはイエスに言った。「あなたは私に話さないのですか。私にはあなたを釈放する権威があり、また十字架につける権威があることを、知らないのですか。」
11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power [at all] against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
イエスは答えられた。「もしそれが上から与えられているのでなかったら、あなたにはわたしに対して何の権威もありません。ですから、わたしをあなたに渡した者に、もっと大きい罪があるのです。」
12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Cæsar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Cæsar.
こういうわけで、ピラトはイエスを釈放しようと努力した。しかし、ユダヤ人たちは激しく叫んで言った。「もしこの人を釈放するなら、あなたはカイザルの味方ではありません。自分を王だとする者はすべて、カイザルにそむくのです。」
13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.
そこでピラトは、これらのことばを聞いたとき、イエスを外に引き出し、敷石（ヘブル語ではガバタ）と呼ばれる場所で、裁判の席に着いた。
14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
その日は過越の備え日で、時は六時ごろであった。ピラトはユダヤ人たちに言った。「さあ、あなたがたの王です。」
15 But they cried out, Away with [him], away with [him], crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Cæsar.
彼らは激しく叫んだ。「除け。除け。十字架につけろ。」ピラトは彼らに言った。「あなたがたの王を私が十字架につけるのですか。」祭司長たちは答えた。「カイザルのほかには、私たちに王はありません。」
16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led [him] away.
そこでピラトは、そのとき、イエスを、十字架につけるため彼らに引き渡した。
17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called [the place] of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
彼らはイエスを受け取った。そして、イエスはご自分で十字架を負って、「どくろの地」という場所（ヘブル語でゴルゴタと言われる）に出て行かれた。
18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
彼らはそこでイエスを十字架につけた。イエスといっしょに、ほかのふたりの者をそれぞれ両側に、イエスを真中にしてであった。
19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put [it] on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
ピラトは罪状書きも書いて、十字架の上に掲げた。それには「ユダヤ人の王ナザレ人イエス。」と書いてあった。
20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, [and] Greek, [and] Latin.
それで、大ぜいのユダヤ人がこの罪状書きを読んだ。イエスが十字架につけられた場所は都に近かったからである。またそれはヘブル語、ラテン語、ギリシヤ語で書いてあった。
21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.
そこで、ユダヤ人の祭司長たちがピラトに、「ユダヤ人の王、と書かないで、彼はユダヤ人の王と自称した、と書いてください。」と言った。
22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.
ピラトは答えた。「私の書いたことは私が書いたのです。」
23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also [his] coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
さて、兵士たちは、イエスを十字架につけると、イエスの着物を取り、ひとりの兵士に一つずつあたるよう四分した。また下着をも取ったが、それは上から全部一つに織った、縫い目なしのものであった。
24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.
そこで彼らは互いに言った。「それは裂かないで、だれの物になるか、くじを引こう。」それは、「彼らはわたしの着物を分け合い、わたしの下着のためにくじを引いた。」という聖書が成就するためであった。
25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the [wife] of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
兵士たちはこのようなことをしたが、イエスの十字架のそばには、イエスの母と母の姉妹と、クロパの妻のマリヤとマグダラのマリヤが立っていた。
26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
イエスは、母と、そばに立っている愛する弟子とを見て、母に「女の方。そこに、あなたの息子がいます。」と言われた。
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own [home.]
それからその弟子に「そこに、あなたの母がいます。」と言われた。その時から、この弟子は彼女を自分の家に引き取った。
28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
この後、イエスは、すべてのことが完了したのを知って、聖書が成就するために、「わたしは渇く。」と言われた。
29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put [it] upon hyssop, and put [it] to his mouth.
そこには酸いぶどう酒のいっぱいはいった入れ物が置いてあった。そこで彼らは、酸いぶどう酒を含んだ海綿をヒソプの枝につけて、それをイエスの口もとに差し出した。
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
イエスは、酸いぶどう酒を受けられると、「完了した。」と言われた。そして、頭をたれて、霊をお渡しになった。
31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day, ) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and [that] they might be taken away.
その日は備え日であったため、ユダヤ人たちは安息日に（その安息日は大いなる日であったので）、死体を十字架の上に残しておかないように、すねを折ってそれを取りのける処置をピラトに願った。
32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
それで、兵士たちが来て、イエスといっしょに十字架につけられた第一の者と、もうひとりの者とのすねを折った。
33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
しかし、イエスのところに来ると、イエスがすでに死んでおられるのを認めたので、そのすねを折らなかった。
34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
しかし、兵士のうちのひとりがイエスのわき腹を槍で突き刺した。すると、ただちに血と水が出て来た。
35 And he that saw [it] bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
それを目撃した者があかしをしているのである。そのあかしは真実である。その人が、あなたがたにも信じさせるために、真実を話すということをよく知っているのである。
36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
この事が起こったのは、「彼の骨は一つも砕かれない。」という聖書のことばが成就するためであった。
37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
また聖書の別のところには、「彼らは自分たちが突き刺した方を見る。」と言われているからである。
38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave [him] leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
そのあとで、イエスの弟子ではあったがユダヤ人を恐れてそのことを隠していたアリマタヤのヨセフが、イエスのからだを取りかたづけたいとピラトに願った。それで、ピラトは許可を与えた。そこで彼は来て、イエスのからだを取り降ろした。
39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound [weight].
前に、夜イエスのところに来たニコデモも、没薬とアロエを混ぜ合わせたものをおよそ三十キログラムばかり持って、やって来た。
40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
そこで、彼らはイエスのからだを取り、ユダヤ人の埋葬の習慣に従って、それを香料といっしょに亜麻布で巻いた。
41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
イエスが十字架につけられた場所に園があって、そこには、まだだれも葬られたことのない新しい墓があった。
42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews’ preparation [day]; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
その日がユダヤ人の備え日であったため、墓が近かったので、彼らはイエスをそこに納めた。
