Isaiah 47

1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: [there is] no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.

処女なるバビロンの娘よ、下って、ちりの中にすわれ。カルデヤびとの娘よ、王座のない地にすわれ。あなたはもはや、やさしく、たおやかな女ととなえられることはない。

2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.

石うすをとって粉をひけ、顔おおいを取り去り、うちぎを脱ぎ、すねをあらわして川を渡れ。

3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet [thee as] a man.

あなたの裸はあらわれ、あなたの恥は見られる。わたしはあだを報いて、何人とをも助けない。

4 [As for] our redeemer, the LORD of hosts [is] his name, the Holy One of Israel.

われわれをあがなう者はその名を万軍の主といい、イスラエルの聖者である。

5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.

カルデヤびとの娘よ、黙してすわれ、また暗い所にはいれ。あなたはもはや、もろもろの国の女王ととなえられることはない。

6 I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.

わたしはわが民を憤り、わが嗣業を汚して、これをあなたの手に渡した。あなたはこれに、あわれみを施さず、年老いた者の上に、はなはだ重いくびきを負わせた。

7 And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: [so] that thou didst not lay these [things] to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.

あなたは言った、「わたしは、とこしえに女王となる」と。そして、あなたはこれらの事を心にとめず、またその終りを思わなかった。

8 Therefore hear now this, [thou that art] given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I [am], and none else beside me; I shall not sit [as] a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:

楽しみにふけり、安らかにおり、心のうちに「ただわたしだけで、わたしのほかにだれもなく、わたしは寡婦となることはない、また子を失うことはない」と言う者よ、今この事を聞け。

9 But these two [things] shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, [and] for the great abundance of thine enchantments.

これらの二つの事は一日のうちに、またたくまにあなたに臨む。すなわち子を失い、寡婦となる事はたといあなたが多くの魔術を行い、魔法の大いなる力をもってしてもことごとくあなたに臨む。

10 For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I [am], and none else beside me.

あなたは自分の悪に寄り頼んで言う、「わたしを見る者はない」と。あなたの知恵と、あなたの知識とはあなたを惑わした。あなたは心のうちに言った、「ただわたしだけで、わたしのほかにだれもない」と。

11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, [which] thou shalt not know.

しかし、わざわいが、あなたに臨む、あなたは、それをあがなうことができない。なやみが、あなたを襲う、あなたは、それをつぐなうことができない。滅びが、にわかにあなたに臨む、あなたは、それについて何も知らない。

12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.

あなたが若い時から勤め行ったあなたの魔法と、多くの魔術とをもって立ちむかってみよ、あるいは成功するかもしれない、あるいは敵を恐れさせるかもしれない。

13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from [these things] that shall come upon thee.

あなたは多くの計りごとによってうみ疲れた。かの天を分かつ者、星を見る者、新月によって、あなたに臨む事を告げる者を立ちあがらせて、あなたを救わせてみよ。

14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: [there shall] not [be] a coal to warm at, [nor] fire to sit before it.

見よ、彼らはわらのようになって、火に焼き滅ぼされ、自分の身を炎の勢いから、救い出すことができない。その火は身を暖める炭火ではない、またその前にすわるべき火でもない。

15 Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, [even] thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.

あなたが勤めて行ったものと、あなたの若い時からあなたと売り買いした者とは、ついにこのようになる。彼らはめいめい自分の方向にさすらいゆき、ひとりもあなたを救う者はない。
