2 Peter 1
1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
イエス・キリストのしもべであり使徒であるシモン・ペテロから、私たちの神であり救い主であるイエス・キリストの義によって私たちと同じ尊い信仰を受けた方々へ。
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
神と私たちの主イエスを知ることによって、恵みと平安が、あなたがたの上にますます豊かにされますように。
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that [pertain] unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
というのは、私たちをご自身の栄光と徳によってお召しになった方を私たちが知ったことによって、主イエスの、神としての御力は、いのちと敬虔に関するすべてのことを私たちに与えるからです。
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
その栄光と徳によって、尊い、すばらしい約束が私たちに与えられました。それは、あなたがたが、その約束のゆえに、世にある欲のもたらす滅びを免れ、神のご性質にあずかる者となるためです。
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
こういうわけですから、あなたがたは、あらゆる努力をして、信仰には徳を、徳には知識を、
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
知識には自制を、自制には忍耐を、忍耐には敬虔を、
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
敬虔には兄弟愛を、兄弟愛には愛を加えなさい。
8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make [you that ye shall] neither [be] barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
これらがあなたがたに備わり、ますます豊かになるなら、あなたがたは、私たちの主イエス・キリストを知る点で、役に立たない者とか、実を結ばない者になることはありません。
9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
これらを備えていない者は、近視眼であり、盲目であって、自分の以前の罪がきよめられたことを忘れてしまったのです。
10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
ですから、兄弟たちよ。ますます熱心に、あなたがたの召されたことと選ばれたこととを確かなものとしなさい。これらのことを行なっていれば、つまずくことなど決してありません。
11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (aiōnios g166)
このようにあなたがたは、私たちの主であり救い主であるイエス・キリストの永遠の御国にはいる恵みを豊かに加えられるのです。 (aiōnios g166)
12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know [them], and be established in the present truth.
ですから、すでにこれらのことを知っており、現に持っている真理に堅く立っているあなたがたであるとはいえ、私はいつもこれらのことを、あなたがたに思い起こさせようとするのです。
13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting [you] in remembrance;
私が地上の幕屋にいる間は、これらのことを思い起こさせることによって、あなたがたを奮い立たせることを、私のなすべきことと思っています。
14 Knowing that shortly I must put off [this] my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
それは、私たちの主イエス・キリストも、私にはっきりお示しになったとおり、私がこの幕屋を脱ぎ捨てるのが間近に迫っているのを知っているからです。
15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
また、私の去った後に、あなたがたがいつでもこれらのことを思い起こせるよう、私は努めたいのです。
16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
私たちは、あなたがたに、私たちの主イエス・キリストの力と来臨とを知らせましたが、それは、うまく考え出した作り話に従ったのではありません。この私たちは、キリストの威光の目撃者なのです。
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
キリストが父なる神から誉れと栄光をお受けになったとき、おごそかな、栄光の神から、こういう御声がかかりました。「これはわたしの愛する子、わたしの喜ぶ者である。」
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
私たちは聖なる山で主イエスとともにいたので、天からかかったこの御声を、自分自身で聞いたのです。
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
また、私たちは、さらに確かな預言のみことばを持っています。夜明けとなって、明けの明星があなたがたの心の中に上るまでは、暗い所を照らすともしびとして、それに目を留めているとよいのです。
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
それには何よりも次のことを知っていなければいけません。すなわち、聖書の預言はみな、人の私的解釈を施してはならない、ということです。
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost.
なぜなら、預言は決して人間の意志によってもたらされたのではなく、聖霊に動かされた人たちが、神からのことばを語ったのだからです。
