1 Timothy 2
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men;
そこで、まず初めに、このことを勧めます。すべての人のために、また王とすべての高い地位にある人たちのために願い、祈り、とりなし、感謝がささげられるようにしなさい。
2 For kings, and [for] all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
それは、私たちが敬虔に、また、威厳をもって、平安で静かな一生を過ごすためです。
3 For this [is] good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
そうすることは、私たちの救い主である神の御前において良いことであり、喜ばれることなのです。
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
神は、すべての人が救われて、真理を知るようになるのを望んでおられます。
5 For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
神は唯一です。また、神と人との間の仲介者も唯一であって、それは人としてのキリスト・イエスです。
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
キリストは、すべての人の贖いの代価として、ご自身をお与えになりました。これが時至ってなされたあかしなのです。
7 Where unto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, [and] lie not; ) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
そのあかしのために、私は宣伝者また使徒に任じられ――私は真実を言っており、うそは言いません。――信仰と真理を異邦人に教える教師とされました。
8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
ですから、私は願うのです。男は、怒ったり言い争ったりすることなく、どこででもきよい手を上げて祈るようにしなさい。
9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
同じように女も、つつましい身なりで、控えめに慎み深く身を飾り、はでな髪の形とか、金や真珠や高価な衣服によってではなく、
10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
むしろ、神を敬うと言っている女にふさわしく、良い行ないを自分の飾りとしなさい。
11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
女は、静かにして、よく従う心をもって教えを受けなさい。
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
私は、女が教えたり男を支配したりすることを許しません。ただ、黙っていなさい。
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
アダムが初めに造られ、次にエバが造られたからです。
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
また、アダムは惑わされなかったが、女は惑わされてしまい、あやまちを犯しました。
15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
しかし、女が慎みをもって、信仰と愛ときよさとを保つなら、子を産むことによって救われます。
