1 Peter 1
1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
イエス・キリストの使徒ペテロから、ポント、ガラテヤ、カパドキヤ、アジヤ、ビテニヤに散って寄留している、選ばれた人々、すなわち、
2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
父なる神の予知に従い、御霊のきよめによって、イエス・キリストに従うように、またその血の注ぎかけを受けるように選ばれた人々へ。どうか、恵みと平安が、あなたがたの上にますます豊かにされますように。
3 Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
私たちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神がほめたたえられますように。神は、ご自分の大きなあわれみのゆえに、イエス・キリストが死者の中からよみがえられたことによって、私たちを新しく生まれさせて、生ける望みを持つようにしてくださいました。
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
また、朽ちることも汚れることも、消えて行くこともない資産を受け継ぐようにしてくださいました。これはあなたがたのために、天にたくわえられているのです。
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
あなたがたは、信仰により、神の御力によって守られており、終わりのときに現わされるように用意されている救いをいただくのです。
6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
そういうわけで、あなたがたは大いに喜んでいます。ただ、いましばらくの間は、やむをえず、さまざまの試練のために、悩まされていますが、
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
信仰の試練は、火を通して精練されてもなお朽ちて行く金よりも尊いのであって、イエス・キリストの現われのときに称賛と光栄と栄誉に至るものであることがわかります。
8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see [him] not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
あなたがたはイエス・キリストを見たことはないけれども愛しており、いま見てはいないけれども信じており、ことばに尽くすことのできない、栄えに満ちた喜びにおどっています。
9 Receiving the end of your faith, [even] the salvation of [your] souls.
これは、信仰の結果である、たましいの救いを得ているからです。
10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace [that should come] unto you:
この救いについては、あなたがたに対する恵みについて預言した預言者たちも、熱心に尋ね、細かく調べました。
11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
彼らは、自分たちのうちにおられるキリストの御霊が、キリストの苦難とそれに続く栄光を前もってあかしされたとき、だれを、また、どのような時をさして言われたのかを調べたのです。
12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
彼らは、それらのことが、自分たちのためではなく、あなたがたのための奉仕であるとの啓示を受けました。そして今や、それらのことは、天から送られた聖霊によってあなたがたに福音を語った人々を通して、あなたがたに告げ知らされたのです。それは御使いたちもはっきり見たいと願っていることなのです。
13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
ですから、あなたがたは、心を引き締め、身を慎み、イエス・キリストの現われのときあなたがたにもたらされる恵みを、ひたすら待ち望みなさい。
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
従順な子どもとなり、以前あなたがたが無知であったときのさまざまな欲望に従わず、
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
あなたがたを召してくださった聖なる方にならって、あなたがた自身も、あらゆる行ないにおいてきよくなりなさい。
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
それは、「わたしが聖であるから、あなたがたも、聖でなければならない。」と書いてあるからです。
17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning [here] in fear:
また、人をそれぞれのわざに従って公平にさばかれる方を父と呼んでいるのなら、あなたがたが地上にしばらくとどまっている間の時を、恐れかしこんで過ごしなさい。
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, [as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation [received] by tradition from your fathers;
ご承知のように、あなたがたが先祖から伝わったむなしい生き方から贖い出されたのは、銀や金のような朽ちる物にはよらず、
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
傷もなく汚れもない小羊のようなキリストの、尊い血によったのです。
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
キリストは、世の始まる前から知られていましたが、この終わりの時に、あなたがたのために、現われてくださいました。
21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
あなたがたは、死者の中からこのキリストをよみがえらせて彼に栄光を与えられた神を、キリストによって信じる人々です。このようにして、あなたがたの信仰と希望は神にかかっているのです。
22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, [see that ye] love one another with a pure heart fervently:
あなたがたは、真理に従うことによって、たましいをきよめ、偽りのない兄弟愛を抱くようになったのですから、互いに心から熱く愛し合いなさい。
23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. (aiōn g165)
あなたがたが新しく生まれたのは、朽ちる種からではなく、朽ちない種からであり、生ける、いつまでも変わることのない、神のことばによるのです。 (aiōn g165)
24 For all flesh [is] as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
「人はみな草のようで、 その栄えは、みな草の花のようだ。 草はしおれ、 花は散る。
