1 Peter 4
1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
このように、キリストは肉体において苦しみを受けられたのですから、あなたがたも同じ心構えで自分自身を武装しなさい。肉体において苦しみを受けた人は、罪とのかかわりを断ちました。
2 That he no longer should live the rest of [his] time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
こうしてあなたがたは、地上の残された時を、もはや人間の欲望のためではなく、神のみこころのために過ごすようになるのです。
3 For the time past of [our] life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
あなたがたは、異邦人たちがしたいと思っていることを行ない、好色、情欲、酔酒、遊興、宴会騒ぎ、忌むべき偶像礼拝などにふけったものですが、それは過ぎ去った時で、もう十分です。
4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with [them] to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of [you]:
彼らは、あなたがたが自分たちといっしょに度を過ごした放蕩に走らないので不思議に思い、また悪口を言います。
5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
彼らは、生きている人々をも死んだ人々をも、すぐにもさばこうとしている方に対し、申し開きをしなければなりません。
6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
というのは、死んだ人々にも福音が宣べ伝えられていたのですが、それはその人々が肉体においては人間としてさばきを受けるが、霊においては神によって生きるためでした。
7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
万物の終わりが近づきました。ですから、祈りのために、心を整え身を慎みなさい。
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
何よりもまず、互いに熱心に愛し合いなさい。愛は多くの罪をおおうからです。
9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
つぶやかないで、互いに親切にもてなし合いなさい。
10 As every man hath received the gift, [even so] minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
それぞれが賜物を受けているのですから、神のさまざまな恵みの良い管理者として、その賜物を用いて、互いに仕え合いなさい。
11 If any man speak, [let him speak] as the oracles of God; if any man minister, [let him do it] as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
語る人があれば、神のことばにふさわしく語り、奉仕する人があれば、神が豊かに備えてくださる力によって、それにふさわしく奉仕しなさい。それは、すべてのことにおいて、イエス・キリストを通して神があがめられるためです。栄光と支配が世々限りなくキリストにありますように。アーメン。 (aiōn g165)
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
愛する者たち。あなたがたを試みるためにあなたがたの間に燃えさかる火の試練を、何か思いがけないことが起こったかのように驚き怪しむことなく、
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
むしろ、キリストの苦しみにあずかれるのですから、喜んでいなさい。それは、キリストの栄光が現われるときにも、喜びおどる者となるためです。
14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy [are ye]; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
もしキリストの名のために非難を受けるなら、あなたがたは幸いです。なぜなら、栄光の御霊、すなわち神の御霊が、あなたがたの上にとどまってくださるからです。
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or [as] a thief, or [as] an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
あなたがたのうちのだれも、人殺し、盗人、悪を行なう者、みだりに他人に干渉する者として苦しみを受けるようなことがあってはなりません。
16 Yet if [any man suffer] as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
しかし、キリスト者として苦しみを受けるのなら、恥じることはありません。かえって、この名のゆえに神をあがめなさい。
17 For the time [is come] that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall the end [be] of them that obey not the gospel of God?
なぜなら、さばきが神の家から始まる時が来ているからです。さばきが、まず私たちから始まるのだとしたら、神の福音に従わない人たちの終わりは、どうなることでしょう。
18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
義人がかろうじて救われるのだとしたら、神を敬わない者や罪人たちは、いったいどうなるのでしょう。
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls [to him] in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
ですから、神のみこころに従ってなお苦しみに会っている人々は、善を行なうにあたって、真実であられる創造者に自分のたましいをお任せしなさい。
