1 Chronicles 11
1 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we [are] thy bone and thy flesh.
Tout Israël s'assembla auprès de David à Hébron, en disant: " Voici que nous sommes tes os et ta chair.
2 And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou [wast] he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.
Autrefois déjà, quand Saül était roi, c'était toi qui menais et ramenais Israël. Et Yahweh, ton Dieu, t'a dit: C'est toi qui paîtras mon peuple d'Israël, et c'est toi qui seras chef sur mon peuple d'Israël. "
3 Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel.
Ainsi tous les anciens d'Israël vinrent auprès du roi à Hébron, et David fit alliance avec eux devant Yahweh, à Hébron; et ils oignirent David pour roi sur Israël, selon la parole de Yahweh prononcée par Samuel.
4 And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which [is] Jebus; where the Jebusites [were], the inhabitants of the land.
David marcha avec tout Israël contre Jérusalem, qui est Jébus; là étaient les Jébuséens, habitants du pays.
5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which [is] the city of David.
Les habitants de Jébus dirent à David: " Tu n'entreras pas ici. " Mais David s'empara de la forteresse de Sion: c'est la cité de David.
6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.
David dit: " Quiconque battra le premier les Jébuséens sera chef et prince. " Joab, fils de Sarvia, monta le premier, et il devint chef.
7 And David dwelt in the castle; therefore they called it the city of David.
David s'établit dans la forteresse; c'est pourquoi on l'appela cité de David.
8 And he built the city round about, even from Millo round about: and Joab repaired the rest of the city.
Il bâtit la ville tout autour, à partir du Mello et aux environs, et Joab répara le reste de la ville.
9 So David waxed greater and greater: for the LORD of hosts [was] with him.
David devenait de plus en plus grand, et Yahweh des armées était avec lui.
10 These also [are] the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, [and] with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.
Voici les chefs des héros qui étaient au service de David, et qui, avec tout Israël, l'aidèrent pendant son règne, après avoir contribué à le faire roi, selon la parole de Yahweh au sujet d'Israël.
11 And this [is] the number of the mighty men whom David had; Jashobeam, an Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: he lifted up his spear against three hundred slain [by him] at one time.
Voici le nombre des héros qui étaient au service de David: Jesbaam, fils de Hachamoni, chef des Trente. Il brandit sa lance sur trois cents hommes, qu'il fit périr en une seule fois.
12 And after him [was] Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who [was one] of the three mighties.
Après lui, Eléazar, fils de Dodo, l'Ahohite; il était parmi les trois vaillants.
13 He was with David at Pas-dammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.
Il était avec David à Phes-Domim, et les Philistins s'y étaient rassemblés pour combattre. Il y avait là une pièce de terre pleine d'orge, et le peuple fuyait devant les Philistins.
14 And they set themselves in the midst of [that] parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the LORD saved [them] by a great deliverance.
Ils se placèrent au milieu du champ, le défendirent et battirent les Philistins; et Yahweh opéra une grande délivrance.
15 Now three of the thirty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines encamped in the valley of Rephaim.
Trois d'entre les trente capitaines descendirent auprès de David sur le rocher, à la caverne d'Odollam, tandis que le camp des Philistins était dressé dans la vallée des Réphaïm.
16 And David [was] then in the hold, and the Philistines’ garrison [was] then at Beth-lehem.
David était alors dans la forteresse, et il y avait un poste de Philistins à Bethléem.
17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Beth-lehem, that [is] at the gate!
David eut un désir, et il dit: " Qui me fera boire de l'eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléem? "
18 And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that [was] by the gate, and took [it], and brought [it] to David: but David would not drink [of] it, but poured it out to the LORD,
Aussitôt les trois hommes, passant au travers du camp des Philistins, puisèrent de l'eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléem. Ils la prirent et l'apportèrent à David; mais David ne voulut pas la boire, et il en fit une libation à Yahweh,
19 And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with [the jeopardy of] their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.
en disant: " Que mon Dieu me garde de faire cela! Boirais-je le sang de ces hommes avec leur vie? Car c'est au péril de leur vie qu'ils l'ont apportée. " Et il ne voulut pas la boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois braves.
20 And Abishai the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three: for lifting up his spear against three hundred, he slew [them], and had a name among the three.
Abisaï, frère de Joab, était chef des Trois; il brandit sa lance contre trois cents hommes et les tua, et il eut du renom parmi les trois.
21 Of the three, he was more honourable than the two; for he was their captain: howbeit he attained not to the [first] three.
Il était le plus considéré de la seconde triade, et il fut leur chef; mais il n'égala pas les trois premiers.
22 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many acts; he slew two lionlike men of Moab: also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day.
Banaïas, fils de Joïada, fils d'un homme vaillant et riche en exploits, de Cabséel. Il frappa les deux ariels de Moab. Il descendit et frappa le lion au milieu de la citerne un jour de neige.
23 And he slew an Egyptian, a man of [great] stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand [was] a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.
Il frappa un Egyptien d'une stature de cinq coudées; et dans la main de l'Egyptien, il y avait une lance semblable à une ensouple de tisserand. Il descendit vers lui avec un bâton, et il arracha la lance de la main de l'Egyptien et le frappa de sa propre lance.
24 These [things] did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three mighties.
Voilà ce que fit Banaïas, fils de Joïada, et il eut du renom parmi les trois vaillants.
25 Behold, he was honourable among the thirty, but attained not to the [first] three: and David set him over his guard.
Voici qu'il était plus considéré que les trente, mais il n'égala pas les trois. David le fit membre de son conseil secret.
26 Also the valiant men of the armies [were], Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Beth-lehem,
Hommes vaillants de l'armée: Asaël, frère de Joab; Elchanan, fils de Dodo, de Bethléem;
27 Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,
