Jeremiah 47

1 The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh stroke Gaza.

La parole de l'Éternel qui fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, touchant les Philistins, avant que Pharaon forçât Gaza.

2 Thus says the LORD; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.

Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, des eaux s'avancent du septentrion, et elles deviennent un torrent débordé et inondent le pays et ce qu'il enserre, la ville et ses habitants; et les hommes crient, et tous les habitants du pays se lamentent:

3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;

au retentissement des pas du sabot de leurs puissants coursiers, du fracas de leurs chars, du roulement de leurs roues, les pères ne tournent point la tête vers leurs fils, tant les mains faiblissent,

4 Because of the day that comes to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remains: for the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.

à cause de la journée qui s'approche pour détruire tous les Philistins, et pour ôter à Tyr et à Sidon tous les auxiliaires qui leur restent: car l'Éternel va détruire les Philistins, débris de l'île de Caphthor.

5 Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long will you cut yourself?

Gaza est rasée, c'en est fait d'Askalon, et du reste de leur plaine. Jusques à quand te feras-tu des incisions?

6 O you sword of the LORD, how long will it be before you be quiet? put up yourself into your scabbard, rest, and be still.

Malheur! Épée de l'Éternel, jusques à quand ne feras-tu point de quartier? Retire-toi dans ton fourreau! sois inactive et tranquille!

7 How can it be quiet, seeing the LORD has given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there has he appointed it.

Mais comment te reposerais-tu? l'Éternel te commande. C'est contre Askalon, et contre la côte de la mer qu'il t'a donné mission.
