Habakkuk 1
1 The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
預言者ハバククが見た神の託宣。
2 O LORD, how long shall I cry, and you will not hear! even cry out unto you of violence, and you will not save!
主よ、わたしが呼んでいるのに、いつまであなたは聞きいれて下さらないのか。わたしはあなたに「暴虐がある」と訴えたが、あなたは助けて下さらないのか。
3 Why do you show me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.
あなたは何ゆえ、わたしによこしまを見せ、何ゆえ、わたしに災を見せられるのか。略奪と暴虐がわたしの前にあり、また論争があり、闘争も起っている。
4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment does never go forth: for the wicked does compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceeds.
それゆえ、律法はゆるみ、公義は行われず、悪人は義人を囲み、公義は曲げて行われている。
5 Behold all of you among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which all of you will not believe, though it be told you.
諸国民のうちを望み見て、驚け、そして怪しめ。わたしはあなたがたの日に一つの事をする。人がこの事を知らせても、あなたがたはとうてい信じまい。
6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwelling places that are not their's.
見よ、わたしはカルデヤびとを興す。これはたけく、激しい国民であって、地を縦横に行きめぐり、自分たちのものでないすみかを奪う。
7 They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.
これはきびしく、恐ろしく、そのさばきと威厳とは彼ら自身から出る。
8 Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hastes to eat.
その馬はひょうよりも速く、夜のおおかみよりも荒い。その騎兵は威勢よく進む。すなわち、その騎兵は遠い所から来る。彼らは物を食おうと急ぐわしのように飛ぶ。
9 They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.
彼らはみな暴虐のために来る。彼らを恐れる恐れが彼らの前を行く。彼らはとりこを砂のように集める。
10 And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.
彼らは王たちを侮り、つかさたちをあざける。彼らはすべての城をあざ笑い、土を積み上げてこれを奪う。
11 Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god.
こうして、彼らは風のようになぎ倒して行き過ぎる。彼らは罪深い者で、おのれの力を神となす。
12 Are you not from everlasting, O LORD my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O LORD, you have ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, you have established them for correction.
わが神、主、わが聖者よ。あなたは永遠からいますかたではありませんか。わたしたちは死んではならない。主よ、あなたは彼らをさばきのために備えられた。岩よ、あなたは彼らを懲しめのために立てられた。
13 You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and can not look on iniquity: wherefore look you upon them that deal treacherously, and hold your tongue when the wicked devours the man that is more righteous than he?
あなたは目が清く、悪を見られない者、また不義を見られない者であるのに、何ゆえ不真実な者に目をとめていられるのですか。悪しき者が自分よりも正しい者を、のみ食らうのに、何ゆえ黙っていられるのですか。
14 And make men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?
あなたは人を海の魚のようにし、治める者のない這う虫のようにされる。
15 They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad.
彼はつり針でこれをことごとくつり上げ、網でこれを捕え、引き網でこれを集め、こうして彼は喜び楽しむ。
16 Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their food abundant.
それゆえ、彼はその網に犠牲をささげ、その引き網に香をたく。これによって彼はぜいたくに暮し、その食物も豊かになるからである。
17 Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?
それで、彼はいつまでもその網の獲物を取り入れて、無情にも諸国民を殺すのであろうか。
