John 18
1 WHEN Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
১পরে যীশু এই সব কথা বলেছিলেন, তিনি তাঁর শিষ্যদের সঙ্গে বেরিয়ে কিদ্রোণ উপত্যকা পার হয়েছিলেন, সেখানে একটি বাগান ছিল তার মধ্যে তিনি ঢুকেছিলেন, তিনি এবং তাঁর শিষ্যরা।
2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.
২এখন যিহূদা, যে তাঁর সঙ্গে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করেছিল, সেও জায়গাটা চিনত, কারণ যীশু প্রায়ই তাঁর শিষ্যদের নিয়ে সেখানে যেতেন।
3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
৩তারপর যিহূদা একদল সৈন্য এবং প্রধান যাজকদের কাছ থেকে আধিকারিক গ্রহণ করেছিল এবং ফরীশীরা লন্ঠন, মশাল এবং তরোয়াল নিয়ে সেখানে এসেছিল।
4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
৪তারপর যীশু, যিনি সব কিছু জানতেন যে তাঁর উপর কি ঘটবে, সামনের দিকে গেলেন এবং তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করেছিলেন, তোমরা কাকে খুঁজছো?
5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
৫তারা তাঁকে উত্তর দিল, “নাসরতের যীশুর।” যীশু তাদের উত্তর দিল, “আমি সে।” যিহূদা, যে তাঁর সঙ্গে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করেছিল, সেও সৈন্যদের সঙ্গে দাঁড়িয়েছিল।
6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
৬সুতরাং যখন তিনি তাদের বললেন, “আমি হই,” তারা পিছিয়ে গেল এবং মাটিতে পড়ে গেল।
7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
৭তারপরে তিনি তাদের আবার জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তোমরা কার খোঁজ করছ?” তারা আবার বলল, “নাসরতের যীশুর।”
8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
৮যীশু উত্তর করলেন, “আমি তোমাদের বললাম যে, আমিই তিনি; সুতরাং তোমরা যদি আমাকে খোঁজ, তবে অন্যদের যেতে দাও।”
9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.
৯এই ঘটনা ঘটল যেন তিনি যে কথা বলেছিলেন সে কথা পূর্ণ হয়। তিনি বলেছিলেন, “তুমি যাদের আমাকে দিয়েছিলে, আমি তাদের একজনকেও হারাই নি।”
10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
১০তখন শিমোন পিতর, যার একটা তরোয়াল ছিল, সেটা টানলেন এবং মহাযাজকদের দাসকে আঘাত করেছিলেন এবং তার ডান কান কেটে ফেললেন। সেই দাসের নাম ছিল মল্ক।
11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
১১যীশু পিতরকে বললেন, “তরোয়ালটা খাপের মধ্যে রাখ। আমার পিতা আমাকে যে দুঃখের পানপাত্র দিয়েছেন, আমি কি এটাতে পান করব না?”
12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
১২সুতরাং একদল সৈন্য এবং দলপতি ও ইহূদিদের আধিকারিকরা যীশুকে ধরল এবং তাঁকে বাঁধলো।
13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.
১৩তারা প্রথমে তাঁকে হাননের কাছে নিয়ে গেল, কারণ তিনি কায়াফার শ্বশুর ছিলেন, যিনি ওই বছরে মহাযাজক ছিলেন।
14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
১৪এখন কায়াফাই একজন ছিলেন যিনি ইহূদিদের উপদেশ দিয়েছিলেন যে এটা ছিল সুবিধাজনক উপায় যে লোকদের জন্য একজন মানুষ মরবে।
15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
১৫শিমোন পিতর যীশুকে অনুসরণ করেছিলেন এবং অন্য একজন শিষ্যও করেছিলেন। ওই শিষ্য মহাযাজককে চিনতেন এবং তিনি যীশুর সঙ্গে মহাযাজকের উঠোনে ঢুকলেন।
16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
১৬কিন্তু পিতর দরজার বাইরে দাঁড়িয়ে ছিলেন। সুতরাং অন্য শিষ্য, যাকে মহাযাজক চিনতেন, বাইরে গেলেন এবং মহিলা দাসীর সঙ্গে কথা বললেন যিনি দরজা পাহারা দিচ্ছিলেন এবং পিতরকে ভেতরে নিয়ে গেলেন।
17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not.
১৭তারপর মহিলা দাসী যিনি দরজা পাহারা দিচ্ছিলেন পিতরকে বলল, “তুমিও কি এই মানুষটির শিষ্যদের মধ্যে একজন নও?” তিনি বললেন, “আমি নই।”
18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
১৮এখন দাসেরা এবং আধিকারিকরা সেখানে দাঁড়িয়ে ছিলেন; তারা কয়লার আগুন তৈরী করেছিল, কারণ এটা ছিল শীতকাল এবং তারা তাদের গরম করছিল। পিতরও তাদের সঙ্গে দাঁড়িয়েছিল এবং নিজেকে গরম করছিল।
19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
১৯তারপর মহাযাজক যীশুকে তাঁর শিষ্যদের এবং তাঁর শিক্ষার বিষয়ে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন।
20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
২০যীশু তাঁকে উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি জগতের কাছে খোলাখুলি ভাবে কথা বলেছি; আমি সবদিন সমাজঘরের মধ্যে এবং মন্দিরের মধ্যে শিক্ষা দিয়েছি যেখানে সব ইহূদিরা একসঙ্গে আসত। আমি গোপনে কিছু বলিনি।
21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
২১কেন আপনি আমাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করছেন? আমি কি বলেছি সে বিষয়ে যারা শুনেছে তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করুন। আমি কি বলেছি সে বিষয়ে এই লোকেরা জানে।”
22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
২২যখন যীশু এই কথা বললেন, তখন পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকা একজন আধিকারিক যীশুকে হাত দিয়ে আঘাত করে বললেন, “মহাযাজকদের সাথে কি এই ভাবে কথা বলা উচিত?”
23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
২৩যীশু তাহাকে উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি যদি কোনো কিছু খারাপ বলে থাকি, সেই খারাপের সাক্ষ্য দাও। যদি আমি ঠিক উত্তর দিয়ে থাকি, কেন তোমরা আমাকে মারছ?”
24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
২৪তারপরে বাঁধা অবস্থায় আন্না তাঁকে কায়াফা মহাযাজকদের কাছে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন।
25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
২৫এখন শিমোন পিতর দাঁড়িয়ে ছিলেন এবং নিজেকে গরম করছিলেন। তখন লোকেরা তাঁকে বলল, “তুমিও কি তাঁর শিষ্যদের মধ্যে একজন নও?” তিনি এটা অস্বীকার করলেন এবং বললেন, “আমি হই না।”
26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
২৬মহাযাজকের একজন দাস পিতর যে মানুষটির কান কেটে ফেলেছিলেন তার একজন আত্মীয়, বলল, “আমি কি বাগানে তাঁর সঙ্গে তোমাকে দেখিনি?”
27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.
২৭তারপরে পিতর আবার অস্বীকার করলেন এবং তক্ষুনি মোরগ ডেকে উঠল।
28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
২৮পর দিন ভোরবেলা তারা যীশুকে নিয়ে কায়াফার কাছ থেকে রাজবাড়িতে গেল কিন্তু তারা নিজেরাই রাজবাড়িতে ঢুকলো না যাতে তারা অশুচি না হয় এবং নিস্তারপর্ব্বের ভোজে অংশগ্রহণ করতে পরে।
29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?
২৯সুতরাং পীলাত বাইরে তাদের কাছে গেলেন ও বললেন, “তোমরা এই মানুষটির বিরুদ্ধে কি অভিযোগ করছ?”
30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.
৩০তারা উত্তর করেছিল এবং তাঁকে বলল, “যদি এই লোকটি একজন অপরাধী না হত, আমরা আপনার কাছে তাকে সমর্পণ করতাম না।”
31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
৩১সুতরাং পীলাত তাদের বললেন, “তোমারই তাকে নিয়ে যাও এবং তোমাদের আইনমতে তার বিচার কর।” ইহূদিরা তাঁকে বলল, “কোন মানুষকে মেরে ফেলার অধিকার আমাদের আইনে বিধেয় নয়।”
32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
৩২তারা এই কথা বললেন যেন যীশুর সেই বাক্য পূর্ণ হয়, যে বাক্য তিনি বলেছিলেন যে, তিনি কিভাবে মারা যাবেন তা ইশারায় বলেছিলেন।
33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
৩৩তারপর পীলাত আবার রাজবাড়িতে ঢুকেছিলেন এবং যীশুকে ডেকেছিলেন; তিনি তাঁকে বললেন, “তুমি কি ইহূদিদের রাজা?”
34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?
৩৪যীশু উত্তর করেছিলেন, “আপনি কি নিজের থেকে এই কথা জিজ্ঞাসা করছেন অথবা অন্যরা আপনাকে আমার বিষয়ে জিজ্ঞাসা করতে বলেছে?”
35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
৩৫পীলাত উত্তর করেছিলেন, “আমি ইহূদি নই, আমি কি? তোমার জাতির লোকেরা এবং প্রধান যাজকেরা আমার কাছে তোমাকে সমর্পণ করেছে; তুমি কি করেছ?”
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
৩৬যীশু উত্তর করেছিলেন, “আমার রাজ্য এই জগতের অংশ নয়। যদি আমার রাজ্য এই জগতের অংশ হত, তবে আমার রক্ষীরা যুদ্ধ করত, যেন আমি ইহূদিদের হাতে সমর্পিত না হই; বস্তুত আমার রাজ্য এখান থেকে আসেনি।”
37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
৩৭তারপর পীলাত তাঁকে বললেন, “তুমি কি একজন রাজা?” যীশু উত্তর করেছিলেন, “আপনি বলছেন যে আমি একজন রাজা। আমি এই উদ্দেশ্যেই জন্মগ্রহণ করেছি এবং এই উদ্দেশ্যেই জগতে এসেছি যে আমি সত্যের সাক্ষ্য বহন করব। প্রত্যেকে যারা সত্যে বাস করতে চায় তারা আমার কথা শোনে।”
38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
৩৮পীলাত তাঁকে বললেন, “সত্য কি?” যখন তিনি এই কথা বলেছিলেন, তিনি আবার বাইরে ইহূদিদের কাছে গেলেন এবং তাদের বললেন, “আমি এই মানুষটার কোন দোষ দেখতে পাচ্ছি না।”
39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
৩৯তোমাদের একটা নিয়ম আছে যে, আমি নিস্তারপর্ব্বের দিনের তোমাদের জন্য একজন মানুষকে ছেড়ে দিই। সুতরাং তোমরা কি চাও আমি তোমাদের জন্য ইহূদিদের রাজাকে ছেড়ে দিই?
40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
৪০তারপর তারা আবার চেঁচিয়ে উঠল এবং বলল, “এই মানুষটিকে নয়, কিন্তু বারাব্বাকে।” বারাব্বা ডাকাত ছিল।
