John 3
1 NOW there was a man of the Pharisees, whose name was Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
Or il y avait un homme d'entre les pharisiens, dont le nom était Nicodème, et qui était un chef des Juifs;
2 this man came to Jesus in the night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles which thou dost, unless God be with him.
il vint vers lui de nuit et lui dit: « Rabbi, nous savons que tu es venu de Dieu comme docteur, car personne ne peut opérer les miracles que tu opères, si Dieu n'est avec lui. »
3 Jesus answered and said to him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Jésus lui répliqua: « En vérité, en vérité je te le déclare: si quelqu'un n'est né d'en haut, il ne peut voir le royaume de Dieu. »
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
Nicodème lui dit: « Comment un homme peut-il naître, quand il est vieux? Est-ce qu'il peut entrer une seconde fois dans le sein de sa mère et naître? »
5 Jesus replied, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Jésus répliqua: « En vérité, en vérité je te le déclare: si quelqu'un n'est né d'eau et d'esprit, il ne peut entrer dans le royaume de Dieu;
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
ce qui est né de la chair est chair, et ce qui est né de l'Esprit est esprit;
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
ne t'étonne pas de ce que je t'ai dit: il vous faut naître d'en haut;
8 The wind bloweth where it will, and thou hearest the sound of it, but knowest not from whence it cometh, nor whither it goeth: just so is every one who is born of the Spirit.
le vent souffle où il veut, et tu en entends le son, mais tu ne sais d'où il vient et où il va; il en est de même pour quiconque est né de l'Esprit. »
9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
Nicodème lui répliqua: « Comment ces choses se peuvent-elles faire? »
10 Jesus answered and said to him, Art thou a teacher of Israel, and knowest not these things?
Jésus lui répliqua: « Tu es le docteur d'Israël, et tu ne connais pas ces choses!
11 Verily, verity, I tell thee, That what we know we speak, and what we have seen we affirm; and ye receive not our testimony.
En vérité, en vérité je te déclare que ce que nous savons, nous le disons, et que ce que nous avons vu, nous en rendons témoignage, et vous ne recevez pas notre témoignage;
12 If I have told you of earthly things, and ye believe not, how will you believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
si je vous ai parlé des choses terrestres, et que vous ne croyez pas, comment croirez-vous, si je vous parle des choses célestes?
13 Though no man hath ascended into heaven, except he that descended from heaven, that Son of man the I am in heaven.
Et personne n'est monté au ciel, si ce n'est celui qui est descendu du ciel, le fils de l'homme.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, in like manner must the Son of man be lifted up:
Et de même que Moïse a élevé le serpent dans le désert, ainsi faut-il que le fils de l'homme soit élevé,
afin que quiconque croit en lui ait la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that every one who believeth in him should not perish, but have life eternal. (aiōnios g166)
En effet Dieu a tant aimé le monde qu'il a donné Son Fils unique, afin que quiconque croit en lui ne périsse point, mais ait la vie éternelle; (aiōnios g166)
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world by him might be saved.
car Dieu n'a pas envoyé Son Fils dans le monde afin qu'il jugeât le monde, mais afin que le monde fût sauvé par lui.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is already under condemnation, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Celui qui croit en lui n'est point jugé; celui qui ne croit pas a déjà été jugé parce qu'il n'a pas cru au nom du Fils unique de Dieu.
19 Now this is the condemnation, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil.
Or voici en quoi consiste ce jugement, c'est que la lumière est venue dans le monde, et que les hommes ont aimé les ténèbres plus que la lumière, parce que leurs œuvres étaient mauvaises;
20 For every one whose practices are foul hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, that his actions may not be brought to conviction.
car quiconque fait le mal hait la lumière et ne vient pas vers la lumière, afin que ses œuvres ne soient pas dévoilées;
21 But he who practices the truth, cometh to the light, that his actions may be evident, as being done for God.
mais celui qui pratique la vérité vient vers la lumière, afin que ses œuvres soient manifestées parce qu'elles sont faites en Dieu. »
22 After these things Jesus and his disciples went into the land of Judea; and there he abode with them, and baptised.
Après cela Jésus vient, ainsi que ses disciples, dans le pays de Judée et il y séjournait avec eux, et il baptisait.
23 Now John also was baptising at Enon, near to Salem, for there were many streams of water there: and they came, and were baptised.
Or Jean baptisait aussi à Énon près de Salim, parce qu'il y avait là beaucoup d'eau; et on venait, et on se faisait baptiser;
24 For as yet John was not cast into prison.
car Jean n'avait pas encore été jeté en prison.
25 Then a dispute arose between the disciples of John and the Jews with regard to purification.
Il y eut donc de la part des disciples de Jean une dispute avec un Juif au sujet de l'ablution.
26 And they came to John, and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou gavest testimony, lo! this man baptiseth, and all men come to him.
Et ils vinrent vers Jean et lui dirent: « Rabbi, celui qui était avec toi au delà du Jourdain, auquel tu as rendu témoignage, c'est lui qui baptise, et tous viennent vers lui. »
27 John answered and said, A man cannot assume any thing, except it be given him from heaven.
Jean répliqua: « Un homme ne peut pas s'attribuer la moindre chose, si cela ne lui a été donné du ciel;
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Messiah, but that I am sent before him.
vous-mêmes vous m'êtes témoins que j'ai dit: Ce n'est pas moi qui suis le Christ, mais j'ai été envoyé devant lui.
29 It is the bridegroom, who possesses the bride: and the friend of the bridegroom, standing by and hearing him, rejoiceth exceedingly at the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
Celui qui possède l'épouse est l'époux; mais l'ami de l'époux, qui est présent et qui l'entend, est plein de joie à cause de la voix de l'époux; cette joie donc, qui est la mienne, a été accomplie;
30 He must grow great, but I diminutive.
il faut qu'il croisse, mais que moi je diminue.
31 He that cometh from above is above all: he whose origin is from earth is of the earth, and speaketh of the earth: he who cometh from heaven is above all.
Celui qui vient d'en haut est au-dessus de tous; celui qui est de la terre est de la terre et parle de la terre; celui qui vient du ciel, est au-dessus de tous;
32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; though no man receiveth his testimony.
ce qu'il a vu et entendu, c'est ce dont il rend témoignage, et personne ne reçoit son témoignage!
33 He that receiveth his testimony hath avouched that God is true.
Celui qui a reçu son témoignage a scellé que Dieu est vrai;
34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God hath not given the Spirit by measure unto him.
en effet celui que Dieu a envoyé profère les paroles de Dieu, car ce n'est pas avec mesure qu'il donne l'Esprit.
35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
Le Père aime le Fils, et Il a tout mis dans sa main;
36 He that believeth on the Son hath life eternal: and he that believeth not on the Son shall not see life: but the wrath of God abideth upon him. (aiōnios g166)
celui qui croit au Fils a la vie éternelle, mais celui qui désobéit au Fils ne verra point la vie, mais la colère de Dieu demeure sur lui. (aiōnios g166)
