Acts 4
1 AND as they were thus speaking, the priests, and the captain of the temple-guard, and the Sadducees, came upon them,
Mientras hablaban a la gente, los sacerdotes, el capitán del Templo y los saduceos llegaron donde ellos estaban.
2 worn down with vexation, because they taught the people, and preached by Jesus the resurrection of the dead.
Estaban enojados porque ellos estaban enseñándole a la gente, diciéndoles que por medio de Jesús hay resurrección de la muerte.
3 And they laid hands on them, and committed them to prison till the next day: for it was then evening.
Entonces los arrestaron y los pusieron bajo custodia hasta el día siguiente, pues ya era de noche.
4 But many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
Pero muchos de los que habían escuchado el mensaje lo creyeron, y el número total de creyentes aumentó hasta cerca de cinco mil.
5 Now it came to pass that the next morning, their rulers, and elders, and scribes, were assembled at Jerusalem,
El día siguiente, los gobernantes, los ancianos y los líderes religiosos se reunieron en Jerusalén.
6 and Annas the high-priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were the high-priest’s relations.
E incluyeron al Sumo Sacerdote Anás, Caifás, Juan, Alejandro y a otros miembros de la familia de sacerdotes.
7 And placing them in the midst, they interrogated them, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this thing?
Y trajeron a Pedro y a Juan delante de ellos, y les preguntaron: “¿Con qué poder o autoridad han hecho esto?”
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
Entonces Pedro, lleno del Espíritu Santo, les respondió. “Gobernantes del pueblo, y ancianos:
9 if we are this day examined relative to the good deed done to the infirm man, by what means he was restored;
¿Se nos está interrogando por un bien que se le hizo a un hombre que no podía hacer nada por sí mismo, y cómo fue sanado?
10 be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarean, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him doth this man stand here sound in your presence.
Si es así, todos ustedes deben saber, y todo el pueblo de Nazaret también, que fue en el nombre de Jesucristo de Nazaret, al que ustedes mataron en una cruz y a quien Dios levantó de los muertos. Es gracias a él que este hombre está en pie delante de ustedes, completamente sanado.
11 This is the stone which, though set at nought by you builders, is become the head of the corner.
‘Él es la piedra que ustedes los constructores rechazaron, pero ha sido puesta como piedra angular’.
12 And there is no salvation in any other person: for there is no other name under heaven given unto men, whereby we must be saved.
No hay salvación en ningún otro; no hay otro nombre debajo del cielo, dado a la humanidad, que pueda salvarnos”.
13 Attentively regarding then the noble confidence of Peter and John, and perceiving that they were men unlettered, and destitute of education, they were astonished; and they recollected them, that they had been with Jesus.
Cuando vieron la confianza de Pedro y Juan, y se dieron cuenta de que eran hombres sin instrucción, hombres comunes, se sorprendieron mucho. También reconocieron a los demás compañeros de Jesús.
14 But seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they had not a word to reply in contradiction.
Y como veían al hombre que había sido sanado justo ahí junto a ellos, no tuvieron nada que decir en respuesta a lo que había sucedido.
15 But bidding them retire out of the council-chamber, they conferred among themselves,
Entonces les dieron orden de esperar fuera del concilio mientras debatían el asunto entre ellos.
16 saying, What shall we do with these men? for that an acknowledged miracle hath been wrought by them is evident to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
“¿Qué debemos hacer con estos hombres?” preguntaron. “No podemos negar que por medio de ellos ha ocurrido un milagro importante. Todos los que viven aquí en Jerusalén saben de ello.
17 But that it be no farther spread among the people, we will menace them with threats, no more to speak in this name to any man.
Pero para evitar que se difunda mucho más entre la gente, debemos amenazarlos para que no vuelvan a hablarle a nadie en este nombre”.
18 So calling them in, they charged them not to speak in any manner, nor to teach, in the name of Jesus.
Entonces los llamaron para que entraran nuevamente y les dieron orden de no volver a hablar o enseñar en el nombre de Jesús.
19 But Peter and John, answering them, said, If it be right in the sight of God to obey you rather than God, be yourselves the judges.
Pero Pedro y Juan respondieron: “Decidan ustedes si es correcto ante los ojos de Dios obedecerlos a ustedes antes que a él.
20 For we cannot refrain from speaking the things which we have seen and heard.
¡No podemos dejar de hablar sobre lo que hemos visto y oído!”
21 Then they with many additional threatenings dismissed them, finding no pretext how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for what had been done.
Después de proferir más amenazas contra ellos, los dejaron ir. No pudieron resolver cómo podían castigarlos porque todos glorificaban a Dios por lo que había ocurrido.
22 For the man was more than forty years of age, upon whom this miracle of healing was performed.
Porque el hombre que había recibido este milagro tenía más de cuarenta años de edad.
23 But they being dismissed, came unto their own friends, and told them all things which the high-priests and elders had said.
Después de que los discípulos fueron liberados, fueron donde estaban otros creyentes y les contaron todo lo que los jefes de los sacerdotes y los ancianos les habían dicho.
24 Now when they heard it, they lifted up their united voice to God, and said, Lord, thou art the God which made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all things which are in them:
Cuando estos oyeron lo que había sucedido, oraron juntos a Dios: “Señor, tú hiciste el cielo, la tierra y el mar, y todo lo que hay en ellos.
25 who by the mouth of David thy servant saidst, Why do the heathen so furiously rage, and the people meditate vain things?
Tú hablaste por medio del Espíritu Santo a través de David, nuestro padre y tu siervo, diciendo: ‘¿Por qué se enojaron los pueblos de otras naciones? ¿Por qué conspiran insensatamente contra mí?
26 The kings of the earth rose up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against his Messiah.
Los reyes de la tierra se prepararon para la guerra; los gobernantes se unieron contra el Señor y contra su Escogido’.
27 For they have been in truth collected together against thy holy Son Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, even Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the heathen, and the people of Israel,
“¡Ahora esto en verdad ha sucedido aquí, en esta misma ciudad! Tanto Herodes como Poncio Pilato, junto con los extranjeros y el pueblo de Israel, unidos todos contra el Santo, tu santo siervo Jesús, a quien tú ungiste como Mesías.
28 to do all that thy hand and thy counsel predestined should come to pass.
Ellos hicieron todo lo que tú ya habías decidido porque tú tuviste el poder y la voluntad para hacerlo.
29 And as to the present transactions, Lord, look upon their threatnings: and grant thy servants power with all boldness to speak thy word,
“Ahora Señor: ¡mira todas sus amenazas contra nosotros! Ayuda a tus siervos a predicar tu palabra con valor.
30 by stretching out thy hand for healing; and that signs and miracles may be performed by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
Y que al ejercer tu poder para sanar, las señales y milagros sean hechos en el nombre de tu santo siervo Jesús”.
31 And while they were praying, the place in which they were assembled was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
Cuando terminaron de orar, la edificación donde estaban reunidos tembló. Y todos ellos fueron llenos del Espíritu Santo, y predicaban con valor la palabra de Dios.
32 And in the multitude of those that believed there was one heart and soul: and not one person said, that any part of his substance was his peculiar property; but all things were in common among them.
Todos los creyentes tenían un mismo pensar y un mismo sentir. Ninguno de ellos consideraba nada como suyo sino que compartían todas las cosas unos con otros.
33 And with great power bore the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
Los apóstoles daban su testimonio respecto a la resurrección del Señor Jesús con gran poder, y Dios los bendecía a todos en gran manera.
34 Neither was there any person in want among them: for as many as were possessors of fields or houses disposed of them, and brought the prices of the things sold,
Y ninguno de ellos necesitaba nada porque los que tenían tierras o propiedades las vendieron.
35 and laid them at the apostles’ feet: and a distribution was made to every one according as he had need.
Entonces tomaron las ganancias y las llevaron a los apóstoles para compartirlas con los que tenían necesidad.
36 And Joses, who was surnamed Barnabas by the apostles, (which is, being interpreted, A son of consolation, ) a Levite, a Cyprian by birth,
José, al que los apóstoles llamaban Bernabé (que quiere decir “hijo de la consolación”), era un Levita, nativo de Chipre.
37 having a field belonging to him, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
Este vendió un campo que era suyo. Luego trajo el dinero y lo presentó a los apóstoles.
