Genesis 35

1 Then God sayde to Iaakob, Arise, goe vp to Beth-el and dwell there, and make there an altar vnto God, that appeared vnto thee, when thou fleddest from Esau thy brother.

Et Dieu dit à Jacob: Lève-toi, monte à Béthel et y demeure et fais-y un autel au Dieu qui t'est apparu quand tu fuyais devant Esaü, ton frère.

2 Then saide Iaakob vnto his houshold and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and clense your selues, and change your garments:

Alors Jacob dit à sa maison a et à tous ceux qui étaient avec lui: Éloignez les dieux étrangers qui sont parmi vous, et purifiez-vous et changez vos habits,

3 For we will rise and goe vp to Beth-el, and I will make an altar there vnto God, which heard me in the day of my tribulation, and was with me in the way which I went.

puis nous partirons et monterons à Béthel, et là je ferai un autel au Dieu qui m'a exaucé au jour de ma détresse et a été avec moi durant le voyage que j'ai accompli.

4 And they gaue vnto Iaakob all the strange gods, which were in their hands, and all their earings which were in their eares, and Iaakob hidde them vnder an oke, which was by Shechem.

Alors ils livrèrent à Jacob tous les dieux étrangers qu'ils retenaient, et les boucles qui étaient à leurs oreilles, et Jacob les enfouit sous le chêne qui se trouvait près de Sichem.

5 Then they went on their iourney, and the feare of God was vpon the cities that were roud about them: so that they did not follow after the sonnes of Iaakob.

Et ils se mirent en marche. Et la terreur de Dieu gagna toutes les villes de leurs alentours, tellement qu'on ne poursuivit point les fils de Jacob.

6 So came Iaakob to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan: (the same is Beth-el) hee and all the people that was with him.

Et Jacob parvint à Luz, situé dans le pays de Canaan (c'est Béthel) lui et tout le monde qui était avec lui.

7 And he built there an altar, and had called the place, The God of Beth-el, because that God appeared vnto him there, when he fled from his brother.

Et là il édifia un autel et donna à l'endroit le nom de [Autel] du Dieu de Béthel, parce que c'était là que Dieu s'était révélé à lui, quand il fuyait devant son frère.

8 Then Deborah Rebekahs nourse dyed, and was buried beneath Beth-el vnder an oke: and he called the name of it Allon Bachuth.

Et alors mourut Debora, nourrice de Rebecca, et elle reçut la sépulture au-dessous de Béthel sous le chêne, auquel il donna le nom de Allon-Bachuth (chêne des pleurs).

9 Againe God appeared vnto Iaakob, after he came out of Padan Aram, and blessed him.

Et Dieu apparut encore à Jacob après son retour de Mésopotamie, et le bénit.

10 Moreouer God said vnto him, Thy name is Iaakob: thy name shalbe no more called Iaakob, but Israel shalbe thy name: and hee called his name Israel.

Et Dieu lui dit: Ton nom est Jacob; désormais ton nom ne sera plus Jacob, mais Israël sera ton nom. Et Il lui donna le nom d'Israël.

11 Againe God said vnto him, I am God all sufficient. growe, and multiplie. a nation and a multitude of nations shall spring of thee, and Kings shall come out of thy loynes.

Et Dieu lui dit: Je suis Dieu, le Tout-Puissant. Sois fécond et te multiplie; un peuple et une masse de peuples naîtront de toi et des rois sortiront de tes reins.

12 Also I will giue the lande, which I gaue to Abraham and Izhak, vnto thee: and vnto thy seede after thee will I giue that land.

Et le pays que j'ai donné à Abraham et à Isaac, je veux te le donner et le donner à ta postérité après toi.

13 So God ascended from him in the place where he had talked with him.

Et Dieu remontant le quitta au lieu où Il avait parlé avec lui.

14 And Iaakob set vp a pillar in the place where he talked with him, a pillar of stone, and powred drinke offring thereon: also hee powred oyle thereon.

Alors Jacob érigea un monument dans le lieu où Il avait parlé avec lui, un monument en pierre et y fit une libation et y versa de l'huile.

15 And Iaakob called the name of the place, where God spake with him, Beth-el.

Et Jacob donna au lieu où Dieu avait parlé avec lui le nom de Beth-El (maison de Dieu).

16 Then they departed from Beth-el, and when there was about halfe a daies iourney of ground to come to Ephrath, Rahel trauailed, and in trauailing she was in perill.

Et ils partirent de Béthel. Et on avait encore à franchir une traite jusqu'à Ephrata, lorsque Rachel enfanta, et elle eut un enfantement laborieux.

17 And whe she was in paines of her labour, the midwife saide vnto her, Feare not: for thou shalt haue this sonne also.

Et comme l'enfantement était laborieux, la sage-femme lui dit: Ne t'alarme pas, car c'est encore un fils qui te vient!

18 Then as she was about to yeelde vp the Ghost (for she died) she called his name Ben-oni, but his father called him Beniamin.

Et lorsque rendant l'âme, elle se mourait, elle nomma son nom Ben-Oni (mon fils de douleur); mais son père l'appela Benjamin (fils de la droite).

19 Thus died Rahel, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Beth-lehem.

Ainsi mourut Rachel, et elle reçut la sépulture sur le chemin d'Ephrata, qui est Bethléhem.

20 And Iaakob set a pillar vpon her graue: This is the pillar of Rahels graue vnto this day.

Et Jacob érigea un cippe sur son tombeau, c'est le cippe de Rachel qu'on voit encore aujourd'hui.

21 Then Israel went forwarde, and pitched his tent beyond Migdal-eder.

Et Israël partit et dressa sa tente au-delà de la Tour-aux-Troupeaux.

22 Now, when Israel dwelt in that land, Reuben went, and lay with Bilhah his fathers concubine, and it came to Israels eare. And Iaakob had twelue sonnes.

Et pendant qu'Israël habitait cette contrée, Ruben prit son chemin, et coucha avec Bilha, concubine de son père. El Israël l'apprit. Et les fils de Jacob étaient au nombre de douze.

23 The sonnes of Leah: Reuben Iaakobs eldest sonne, and Simeon, and Leui, and Iudah, and Issachar, and Zebulun.

Fils de Léa: le premier-né de Jacob, Ruben, et Siméon et Lévi, et Juda et Issaschar et Zabulon.

24 The sonnes of Rahel: Ioseph and Beniamin.

Fils de Rachel: Joseph et Benjamin.

25 And the sonnes of Bilhah Rahels maide: Dan and Naphtali.

Fils de Bilha, servante de Rachel: Dan et Nephthali.

26 And the sonnes of Zilpah Leahs maide: Gad and Asher. These are the sonnes of Iaakob, which were borne him in Padan Aram.

Fils de Zilpa, servante de Léa: Gad et Asser. Tels sont les fils de Jacob, qui lui naquirent en Mésopotamie.

27 Then Iaakob came vnto Izhak his father to Mamre a citie of Arbah: this is Hebron, where Abraham and Izhak were strangers.

Et Jacob arriva chez Isaac, son père, à Mamré, Kiriath-Arba, qui est Hébron, où Abraham et Isaac avaient séjourné.

28 And the daies of Izhak were an hundreth and fourescore yeeres.

Et les jours d'Isaac furent cent quatre-vingts ans;

29 And Izhak gaue vp the ghost and died, and was gathered vnto his people, being olde and full of daies: and his sonnes Esau and Iaakob buried him.

alors Isaac expira et mourut, et il fut recueilli auprès de son peuple, vieux et rassasié de jours. Et Esaü et Jacob, ses fils, lui donnèrent la sépulture.
