2 Kings 4
1 And one of the wiues of the sonnes of the Prophets cryed vnto Elisha, saying, Thy seruant mine husband is dead, and thou knowest, that thy seruant did feare the Lord: and the creditour is come to take my two sonnes to bee his bondmen.
La mujer de uno de los hijos de los profetas se dirigió a Eliseo: “Mi marido, tu siervo, ha muerto, y tú sabes que honraba al Señor. Pero ahora, para pagar sus deudas, su acreedor viene a llevarse a mis dos hijos como esclavos”.
2 Then Elisha saide vnto her, What shall I do for thee? tell mee, what hast thou at home? And she sayd, Thine handmayd hath nothing at home, saue a pitcher of oyle.
“¿Qué puedo hacer para ayudarte?”, preguntó Eliseo. “Dime, ¿qué tienes en tu casa?” “Yo, tu sierva, no tengo nada en mi casa, excepto una jarra de aceite de oliva”, respondió ella.
3 And he sayde, Goe, and borowe thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, emptie vessels, and spare not.
“Ve y pide prestadas jarras vacías a tus vecinos, todas las que puedas, no sólo unas pocas”, le dijo Eliseo.
4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the doore vpon thee and vpon thy sonnes, and powre out into all those vessels, and set aside those that are full.
“Luego entra, cierra la puerta detrás de ti y de tus hijos, y comienza a verter aceite de oliva en todas estas tinajas, colocando las tinajas llenas a un lado”.
5 So shee departed from him, and shut the doore vpon her, and vpon her sonnes. And they brought to her, and she powred out.
Ella dejó a Eliseo, se fue a su casa y cerró la puerta detrás de ella y de sus hijos. Le trajeron las tinajas y ella siguió vertiendo.
6 And when the vessels were full, shee sayde vnto her sonne, Bring mee yet a vessel. And hee said vnto her, There is no moe vessels. And the oyle ceased.
Cuando todas las tinajas estaban llenas, le dijo a su hijo: “Tráeme otra”. Pero él le contestó: “No queda ninguna tinaja”. Entonces el aceite de oliva dejó de fluir.
7 Then shee came and tolde the man of God. And he saide, Goe, and sell the oyle, and pay them that thou art in debt vnto, and liue thou and thy children of the rest.
Ella fue a contarle al hombre de Dios lo que había sucedido, y él le dijo: “Ve y vende el aceite de oliva y paga tus deudas, y tú y tus hijos podrán vivir con lo que quede”.
8 And on a time Elisha came to Shunem, and there a woman of great estimation constrained him to eate bread: and as he passed by, he turned in thither to eate bread.
Un día, mientras Eliseo iba de paso por Sunem, una mujer rica que vivía allí lo convenció para que comiera. Después de esa ocasión, cada vez que pasaba por allí, llegaba allí a comer.
9 And she sayde vnto her husband, Beholde, I know now, that this is an holy man of God that passeth by vs continually.
Un día, ella le dijo a su marido: “Estoy segura de que este hombre que nos visita regularmente es un santo varón de Dios.
10 Let vs make him a litle chamber, I pray thee, with walles, and let vs set him there a bed, and a table, and a stoole, and a candlesticke, that hee may turne in thither when hee commeth to vs.
Por favor, hagamos una pequeña habitación en el tejado. Podemos ponerle una cama, una mesa, una silla y una lámpara. Así podrá quedarse allí cada vez que nos visite”.
11 And on a day, hee came thither and turned into the chamber, and lay therein,
Un día llegó Eliseo, subió a su habitación y se acostó.
12 And sayd to Gehazi his seruant, Call this Shunammite: and when hee called her, she stood before him.
Y le dijo a su criado Giezi: “Pídele a la sunamita que venga aquí”. Entonces Giezi la llamó y ella vino a ver a Eliseo.
13 Then he sayd vnto him, Say vnto her now, Beholde, thou hast had all this great care for vs, what shall we doe for thee? Is there any thing to bee spoken for thee to the King or to the captaine of the hoste? And shee answered, I dwell among mine owne people.
Entonces Eliseo le dijo a Giezi: “Por favor, dile: ‘te has tomado muchas molestias por nosotros. ¿Qué podemos hacer ahora por ti? ¿Quieres que hablemos por ti al rey o al comandante del ejército?’” “Vivo con mi propia gente”, respondió ella.
14 Againe he sayde, What is then to be done for her? Then Gehazi answered, In deede she hath no sonne, and her husband is olde.
Después de que ella se fue, Eliseo preguntó: “¿Qué podemos hacer por ella?”. “No tiene hijo, y su marido es viejo”, respondió Giezi.
15 Then said he, Cal her. And hee called her, and shee stoode in the doore.
Eliseo dijo: “Pídele que vuelva”. Así que Giezi la llamó, y ella vino de pie junto a la puerta.
16 And he said, At this time appointed, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a sonne. And she sayd, Oh my Lord, thou man of God, doe not lye vnto thine handmayd.
Entonces Eliseo le dijo: “El año que viene, por estas fechas, tendrás un hijo en brazos”. “¡No, mi señor!”, respondió ella. “¡Hombre de Dios, no le mientas a tu sierva!”
17 So the woman conceiued, and bare a sonne at that same season, according to the time of life, that Elisha had sayd vnto her.
Pero la mujer quedó efectivamente embarazada, y al año siguiente, por esas mismas fechas, dio a luz a un hijo, tal como Eliseo se lo había prometido.
18 And when the childe was growen, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father, and to the reapers.
El niño creció, pero un día, cuando salió a ver a su padre, que estaba con los segadores,
19 And he sayde to his father, Mine head, mine head. Who sayd to his seruant, Beare him to his mother.
se quejó a su padre: “¡Me duele la cabeza! ¡Me duele la cabeza!” Su padre dijo a uno de sus criados: “Llévenlo de vuelta con su madre”.
20 And hee tooke him and brought him to his mother, and hee sate on her knees till noone, and dyed.
El criado lo levantó y lo llevó donde su madre. El niño se sentó en su regazo hasta el mediodía, y entonces murió.
21 Then shee went vp, and layed him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the doore vpon him, and went out.
Entonces ella subió y lo puso en la cama del hombre de Dios. Luego cerró la puerta y se fue.
22 Then she called to her husband, and sayd, Send with me, I pray thee, one of the yong men and one of the asses: for I will haste to the man of God, and come againe.
Llamó a su marido y le dijo: “Por favor, envíame uno de los criados y un asno para que pueda ir corriendo a ver al hombre de Dios y volver”.
23 And he sayd, Wherefore wilt thou goe to him to day? it is neither newe moone nor Sabbath day. And she answered, All shalbe well.
“¿Por qué necesitas ir a verlo hoy?”, le preguntó él. “No es luna nueva ni sábado”. “No te preocupes por eso”, respondió ella.
24 Then she sadled an asse, and sayde to her seruant, Driue, and goe forward: staye not for me to get vp, except I bid thee.
Puso la silla de montar en el asno y le dijo a su criado: “¡Vamos rápido! No te detengas por mí si no te lo digo yo”.
25 So she went, and came vnto the man of God to mount Carmel. And when the man of God sawe her ouer against him, he sayd to Gehazi his seruant, Beholde, the Shunammite.
Así que se puso en marcha y se dirigió al hombre de Dios que estaba en el monte Carmelo. Cuando vio su camino a lo lejos, el hombre de Dios le dijo a su siervo Giezi: “¡Mira! ¡Ahí está la sunamita!
26 Runne nowe, I say, to meete her, and say vnto her, Art thou in health? is thine husband in health? and is the child in health? And she answered, We are in health.
Por favor, corre a su encuentro y pregúntale: ‘¿Va todo bien contigo, con tu marido y con tu hijo?’”. “Todo está bien”, respondió ella.
27 And when shee came to the man of God vnto the moutaine, she caught him by his feete: and Gehazi went to her, to thrust her away: but the man of God said, Let her alone: for her soule is vexed within her, and the Lord hath hid it from me, and hath not told it mee.
Pero cuando llegó hasta el hombre de Dios en la montaña, se agarró a sus pies. Giezi se acercó para apartarla, pero el hombre de Dios le dijo: “Déjala en paz, porque tiene una miseria terrible, pero el Señor me lo ha ocultado y no me lo ha explicado”.
28 Then she said, Did I desire a sonne of my lord? did I not say, Deceiue me not?
“¿Te pedí un hijo, mi señor?”, preguntó ella. “¿No te dije: ‘No me digas mentiras’?”
29 Then he sayd to Gehazi, Gird thy loynes, and take my staffe in thine hand, and goe thy way: if thou meete any, salute him not: and if any salute thee, answere him not: and laye my staffe vpon the face of the childe.
Eliseo le dijo a Giezi: “¡Guarda tu capa en tu cinturón, toma mi bastón y vete! No saludes a nadie que te encuentres, y si alguien te saluda, no respondas. Coloca mi bastón en la cara del muchacho”.
30 And the mother of the childe sayde, As the Lord liueth, and as thy soule liueth, I will not leaue thee. Therefore he arose, and followed her.
Pero la madre del muchacho le dijo: “¡Vive el Señor y vives tú, no me iré sin ti!”. Así que él se levantó y se fue con ella.
31 But Gehazi was gone before them, and had layed the staffe vpon the face of the childe, but he neither spake nor heard: wherefore hee returned to meete him, and told him, saying, The childe is not waken.
Giezi siguió corriendo y puso el bastón en la cara del muchacho, pero no hubo sonido ni señal de vida. Entonces Giezi volvió a reunirse con Eliseo y le dijo: “El muchacho no ha despertado”.
32 Then came Elisha into the house, and beholde, the childe was dead, and layed vpon his bedde.
Cuando Eliseo llegó a la casa, allí estaba el muchacho, muerto en su cama.
33 He went in therefore, and shut the doore vpon them twayne, and prayed vnto the Lord.
Eliseo entró, cerró la puerta detrás de ambos y oró al Señor.
34 After he went vp, and lay vpon the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes vpon his eies, and his hands vpon his handes, and stretched himselfe vpon him, and the flesh of the child waxed warme.
Luego se subió a la cama y se puso encima del muchacho, y puso su boca sobre la boca del muchacho, sus ojos sobre los ojos del muchacho, sus manos sobre las manos del muchacho. Mientras se extendía sobre él, el cuerpo del muchacho se calentaba.
35 And hee went from him, and walked vp and downe in the house, and went vp and spred himselfe vpon him: then the childe neesed seuen times, and opened his eyes.
Eliseo se levantó, caminó de un lado a otro de la habitación y luego volvió a la cama y se tendió sobre él de nuevo. El muchacho estornudó siete veces y luego abrió los ojos.
36 Then he called Gehazi, and sayd, Call this Shunammite. So he called her, which came in vnto him. And he said vnto her, Take thy sonne.
Eliseo llamó a Giezi y le dijo: “Pide a la sunamita que venga”. Así lo hizo. Cuando llegó, Eliseo le dijo: “Aquí está tu hijo. Puedes recogerlo”.
37 And she came, and fell at his feete, and bowed her selfe to the ground, and tooke vp her sonne, and went out.
Ella entró, se postró a sus pies y se inclinó hasta el suelo. Luego recogió a su hijo y se fue.
38 Afterward Elisha returned to Gilgal, and a famine was in the land, and the children of the Prophets dwelt with him. And hee sayd vnto his seruant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the children of the Prophets.
Cuando Eliseo regresó a Gilgal, había hambre en esa zona. Los hijos de los profetas estaban sentados a sus pies, y él dijo a su criado: “Usa la olla grande y hierve un poco de guiso para los hijos de los profetas”.
39 And one went out into the fielde, to gather herbes, and founde, as it were, a wilde vine, and gathered thereof wilde gourdes his garment ful, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew it not.
Uno de ellos salió al campo a recoger hierbas. Encontró una viña silvestre y recogió tantas calabazas silvestres como le cabía en su manto. Luego regresó y las picó en la olla del guiso. Pero nadie sabía que era peligroso comerlas.
40 So they powred out for the men to eate: and when they did eate of the pottage, they cryed out, and sayde, O thou man of God, death is in the pot: and they could not eate thereof.
Se lo sirvieron a los hombres para que comieran, pero cuando probaron el guiso gritaron: “¡Hay muerte en la olla, hombre de Dios!”. No pudieron comerlo.
41 Then he said, Bring meale. And hee cast it into the potte, and sayd, Powre out for the people, that they may eate: and there was none euill in the pot.
Eliseo dijo: “Trae harina”. La echó en la olla y dijo: “Sírvesela a la gente para que coma”. No había nada malo para comer en la olla.
42 Then came a man from Baal-shalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the first fruits, euen twenty loaues of barley, and full eares of corne in the huske. And hee saide, Giue vnto the people, that they may eate.
Un hombre de Baal-Salisa se acercó al hombre de Dios con un saco de primicias, el primer grano del año, junto con veinte panes de cebada. “Dáselo a la gente para que coma”, dijo Eliseo.
43 And his seruant answered, How shoulde I set this before an hundreth men? He sayd againe, Giue it vnto the people, that they may eate: for thus sayth the Lord, They shall eate, and there shall remaine.
“¿Cómo voy a servir sólo veinte panes a cien hombres?”, preguntó su criado. “Dáselo a la gente para que coma”, dijo Eliseo, “porque esto es lo que dice el Señor: ‘Comerán y aún sobrará’”.
44 So he set it before them, and they did eate, and left ouer, according to the word of the Lord.
Así que les sirvió el pan. Comieron y les sobró, tal como había dicho el Señor.
