1 Samuel 28
1 Nowe at that time the Philistims assembled their bandes and armie to fight with Israel: therfore Achish said to Dauid, Be sure, thou shalt go out with me to the battel, thou, and thy men.
En ce temps-là, les Philistins rassemblèrent leurs troupes en une seule armée pour aller combattre contre Israël. Et Achis dit à David: « Sache que tu viendras avec moi au camp, toi et tes hommes. »
2 And Dauid said to Achish, Surely thou shalt knowe, what thy seruant can doe. And Achish sayde to Dauid, Surely I will make thee keeper of mine head for euer.
David répondit à Achis: « Aussi tu verras ce que fera ton serviteur. » Et Achis dit à David: « Et moi je t'établirai pour toujours gardien de ma personne. »
3 (Samuel was then dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah his owne citie: and Saul had put away the sorcerers, and the soothsayers out of the land)
Samuel était mort; tout Israël l'avait pleuré, et on l'avait enterré à Rama, dans sa ville. Et Saül avait fait disparaître du pays ceux qui évoquaient les morts et les devins.
4 Then the Philistims assembled themselues, and came, and pitched in Shunem: and Saul assembled all Israel, and they pitched in Gilboa.
Les Philistins s'étant rassemblés, vinrent camper à Sunam; Saül rassembla tout Israël, et ils campèrent à Gelboé.
5 And when Saul saw the hoste of the Philistims, he was afraid, and his heart was sore astonied.
A la vue du camp des Philistins, Saül eut peur, et son cœur fut fort agité.
6 Therefore Saul asked counsel of the Lord, and the Lord answered him not, neither by dreames, nor by Vrim, nor yet by Prophets.
Saül consulta Yahweh, et Yahweh ne lui répondit point, ni par les songes, ni par l'Urim, ni par les prophètes.
7 Then saide Saul vnto his seruants, Seeke me a woman that hath a familiar spirite, that I may goe to her, and aske of her. And his seruants said to him, Beholde, there is a woman at En-dor that hath a familiar spirit.
Alors Saül dit à ses serviteurs: « Cherchez-moi une femme qui évoque les morts, et j'irai vers elle et je la consulterai. » Ses serviteurs lui dirent: « Il y a à Endor une femme qui évoque les morts. »
8 Then Saul changed him selfe, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he saide, I pray thee, coniecture vnto me by the familiar spirite, and bring me him vp whome I shall name vnto thee.
Saül se déguisa et mit d'autres vêtements, et il partit, accompagné de deux hommes. Ils arrivèrent de nuit chez la femme, et Saül lui dit: « Prédis-moi l'avenir en évoquant un mort, et fais-moi monter celui que je te dirai. »
9 And the woman saide vnto him, Beholde, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath destroyed the sorcerers, and the southsayers out of the land: wherefore then seekest thou to take me in a snare to cause me to die?
La femme lui répondit: « Voici que tu sais ce qu'a fait Saül, comment il a retranché du pays ceux qui évoquent les morts et les devins; pourquoi me tends-tu un piège, pour me faire mourir? »
10 And Saul sware to her by the Lord, saying, As the Lord liueth, no harme shall come to thee for this thing.
Saül lui jura par Yahweh en disant: « Aussi vrai que Yahweh est vivant! il ne t'arrivera aucun mal à cause de cela. »
11 Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring vp vnto thee? And he answered, Bring me vp Samuel.
Et la femme dit: « Qui te ferai-je monter? » Il répondit: « Fais-moi monter Samuel. »
12 And when the woman sawe Samuel, she cryed with a loude voyce, and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceiued me? for thou art Saul.
A la vue de Samuel, la femme poussa un grand cri; et la femme dit à Saül: « Pourquoi m'as-tu trompée? Tu es Saül! »
13 And the King said vnto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said vnto Saul, I saw gods ascending vp out of the earth.
Le roi lui dit: « Ne crains pas; mais qu'as-tu vu? » La femme dit à Saül: « Je vois un dieu qui monte de la terre. »
14 Then he said vnto her, What facion is hee of? And she answered, An olde man commeth vp lapped in a mantel: and Saul knewe that it was Samuel, and he enclined his face to the grounde, and bowed him selfe.
Il lui dit: « Quelle figure a-t-il? » Et elle répondit: « C'est un vieillard qui monte, et il est enveloppé d'un manteau. » Saül comprit que c'était Samuel, et il se jeta le visage contre terre et se prosterna.
15 And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me vp? Then Saul answered, I am in great distresse: for the Philistims make warre against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by Prophetes, neither by dreames: therefore I haue called thee, that thou mayest tell me, what I shall doe.
Samuel dit à Saül: « Pourquoi m'as-tu troublé, en me faisant monter? » Saül répondit: « Je suis dans une grande détresse: les Philistins me font la guerre, et Dieu s'est retiré de moi; il ne m'a répondu ni par les prophètes ni par les songes. Je t'ai évoqué pour que tu me fasses connaître ce que j'ai à faire. »
16 Then said Samuel, Wherefore then doest thou aske of me, seeing the Lord is gone from thee, and is thine enemie?
Samuel dit: « Pourquoi me consultes-tu, puisque Yahweh s'est retiré de toi et qu'il est devenu ton adversaire?
17 Euen the Lord hath done to him, as hee spake by mine hande: for the Lord will rent the kingdome out of thine hande, and giue it thy neighbour Dauid.
Yahweh a agi comme il l'avait annoncé par mon intermédiaire: Yahweh a arraché la royauté de ta main, et l'a donnée à ton compagnon, à David.
18 Because thou obeyedst not the voyce of the Lord, nor executedst his fierce wrath vpon the Amalekites, therefore hath the Lord done this vnto thee this day.
Parce que tu n'as pas obéi à la voix de Yahweh, et que tu n'as pas traité Amalec selon l'ardeur de sa colère, c'est pour cela que Yahweh a ainsi agi envers toi en ce jour.
19 Moreouer the Lord wil deliuer Israel with thee into the handes of the Philistims: and to morowe shalt thou and thy sonnes be with me, and the Lord shall giue the hoste of Israel into the handes of the Philistims.
Et même Yahweh livrera Israël avec toi aux mains des Philistins. Demain, toi et tes fils, vous serez avec moi, et Yahweh livrera le camp d'Israël entre les mains des Philistins. »
20 Then Saul fell streight way all along on the earth, and was sore afraide because of the wordes of Samuel, so that there was no strength in him: for he had eaten no bread all the day nor all the night.
Aussitôt Saül tomba par terre de toute sa hauteur, car les paroles de Samuel l'avaient rempli d'effroi; de plus, les forces lui manquaient, car il n'avait pris aucune nourriture de tout le jour et de toute la nuit.
21 Then the woman came vnto Saul, and sawe that he was sore troubled, and said vnto him, See, thine handmaide hath obeyed thy voyce, and I haue put my soule in mine hande, and haue obeyed thy wordes which thou saydest vnto me.
La femme vint vers Saül et, voyant son grand trouble, elle lui dit: « Ta servante a obéi à ta voix; j'ai exposé ma vie, en obéissant aux paroles que tu m'as dites.
22 Now therefore, I pray thee, hearke thou also vnto ye voyce of thine handmaid, and let me set a morsell of bread before thee, that thou mayest eat and get thee strength, and go on thy iourney.
Ecoute maintenant, toi aussi, la voix de ta servante, et que je t'offre un morceau de pain; manges-en, pour avoir de la force lorsque tu poursuivras ta route. »
23 But he refused, and said, I will not eate: but his seruants and the woman together compelled him, and he obeyed their voyce: so he arose from the earth, and sate on the bed.
Mais il refusa et dit: « Je ne mangerai point. » Ses serviteurs, ainsi que la femme, le pressèrent, et il se rendit à leurs instances. Il se leva de terre et s'assit sur le divan.
24 Nowe the woman had a fat calfe in the house, and she hasted, and killed it, and tooke floure and kneaded it, and baked of it vnleauened bread.
La femme avait chez elle un veau gras, elle se hâta de le tuer et, prenant de la farine, elle la pétrit et en cuisit des pains sans levain.
25 Then she brought them before Saul, and before his seruants: and when they had eaten, they stoode, and went away the same night.
Elle les mit devant Saül et devant ses serviteurs, et ils mangèrent. Puis s'étant levés, ils partirent la nuit même.
