1 Adam, Sheth, Enosh,
[The first person God created was Adam]. Adam’s [son was] Seth. [Seth’s son was] Enosh. [Enosh’s son was] Kenan.
2 Kenan, Mahalaleel, Iered,
[Kenan’s son was] Mahalalel. [Mahalalel’s son was] Jared. [Jared’s son was] Enoch.
3 Henoch, Methushelah, Lamech,
[Enoch’s son was] Methuselah. [Methusalah’s son was] Lamech. [Lamech’s son was] Noah.
4 Noah, She, Ham, and Iapheth.
[Noah’s sons were] Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
5 The sonnes of Iapheth were Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Iauan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
The sons (OR, descendants) of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
6 And the sonnes of Gomer, Ashchenaz, and Iphath and Togarmah.
The sons (OR, descendants) of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
7 Also the sonnes of Iauan, Elishah and Tarshishah, Kittim, and Dodanim.
The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.
8 The sonnes of Ham were Cush, and Mizraim, Put and Canaan.
The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim (OR, Egypt), Put, and Canaan.
9 And the sonnes of Cush, Siba and Hauilah, and Sabta, and Raamah, and Sabtecha. Also the sonnes of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons (OR, descendants) of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
10 And Cush begate Nimrod, who began to be mightie in the earth.
Another descendant of Cush was Nimrod. When he grew up, he became a mighty warrior on the earth.
11 And Mizraim begate Ludim and Anamim, Lehabim, and Naphtuhim:
Mizraim (OR, Egypt) was the ancestor of the Lud people-group, the Anam people-group, the Lehab people-group, the Naphtuh people-group,
12 Pathrusim also, and Casluhim, of whome came the Philistims, and Caphtorim.
the Pathrus people-group, the Casluh people-group, and the Caphtor people-group. The people of [the] Philistia [region] were descended from the Casluh people-group.
13 Also Canaan begate Zidon his first borne, and Heth,
Canaan’s first son was Sidon. He was also the ancestor of the Heth people-group,
14 And the Iebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite,
the Jebus people-group, the Amor people-group, the Girgash people-group,
15 And the Hiuuite, and the Arkite, and the Simite,
the Hiv people-group, the Ark people-group, the Sin people-group,
16 And the Aruadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite.
the Arvad people-group, the Zemar people-group, and the Hamath people-group.
17 The sonnes of Shem were Elam and Asshur, and Arpachshad, and Lud, and Aram, and Vz, and Hul, and Gether, and Meshech.
The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.
18 Also Arpachshad begate Shelah, and Shelah begate Eber.
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, who was the father of Eber.
19 Vnto Eber also were borne two sonnes: the name of the one was Peleg: for in his dayes was ye earth deuided: and his brothers name was Ioktan.
Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg [which sounds like the word that means ‘divided’] because during the time that he lived, [the people on] the earth were divided [into various language groups]. Peleg’s [younger] brother was Joktan.
20 Then Ioktan begate Almodad and Sheleph, and Hazermaueth and Ierah,
Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
21 And Hadoram and Vzal and Diklah,
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
22 And Ebal, and Abimael, and Sheba,
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
23 And Ophir, and Hauilah and Iobab: all these were the sonnes of Ioktan.
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab.
24 Shem, Arpachshad, Shelah,
The descendants of Shem, [in order from him to Abraham], were Arphaxad, Shelah,
25 Eber, Peleg, Rehu,
Eber, Peleg, Reu,
26 Serug, Nahor, Terah,
Serug, Nahor, Terah,
27 Abram, which is Abraham.
and Abram, whose [name was later changed to] Abraham.
28 The sonnes of Abraham were Izhak, and Ishmael.
Abraham’s sons were Isaac and Ishmael.
29 These are their generations. The eldest sonne of Ishmael was Nebaioth, and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,
[The son of Abraham’s slave wife Hagar was Ishmael.] Ishmael’s [twelve] sons were Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
30 Mishma, and Dumah, Massa, Hadad, and Tema,
Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,
31 Ietur, Naphish and Kedemah: these are the sonnes of Ishmael.
Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
32 And Keturah Abrahams concubine bare sonnes, Zimran, and Iokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah: and the sonnes of Iokshan, Sheba, and Dedan.
[After]’s [wife Sarah died, he took another wife named] Keturah. The sons of Abraham and Keturah were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.
33 And the sonnes of Midian were Ephah, and Ephar, and Henoch, and Abida, and Eldaah: All these are the sonnes of Keturah.
Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah.
34 And Abraham begate Izhak: the sonnes of Izhak, Esau, and Israel.
The son of Abraham [and his wife Sarah] was Isaac, and Isaac’s sons were Esau and [Jacob, whose name was later changed to] Israel.
35 The sonnes of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, and Ieush, and Iaalam, and Korah.
The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
36 The sonnes of Eliphaz, Teman, and Omar, Zephi, and Gatam, Kenaz, and Timna, and Amalek.
The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho (OR, Zephi), Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek.
37 The sonnes of Reuel, Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah.
Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
38 And the sonnes of Seir, Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah, and Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan.
[Another descendant of Esau was Seir. His descendants lived in the Edom region]. Seir’s sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
39 And the sonnes of Lotan, Hori, and Homam, and Timna Lotans sister.
Lotan’s sons were Hori and Homam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
40 The sonnes of Shobal were Alian, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shephi, and Onam. And the sonnes of Zibeon, Aiah and Anah.
Shobal’s sons were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. Zibeon’s sons were Aiah and Anah.
41 The sonne of Anah was Dishon. And the sonnes of Dishon, Amran, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran.
Anah’s son was Dishon. 1 Dishon’s sons were Hemdan (OR, Hamran), Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.
42 The sonnes of Ezer were Bilhan, and Zaauan, and Iaakan. The sonnes of Dishon were Vz, and Aran.
Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan (OR, Jaakan). Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.
43 And these were the Kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before a King reigned ouer the children of Israel, to wit, Bela the sonne of Beor, and the name of his citie was Dinhabah.
[These are the names of] the kings that ruled [the] Edom [region] before any kings ruled over Israel: Bela, the son of Beor, was king in Edom, and the name of the city [in which he lived] was Dinhabah.
44 Then Bela died, and Iobab the sonne of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead.
When Bela died, Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah [city], became the king.
45 And whe Iobab was dead, Hussham of the land of the Temanites reigned in his stead.
When Jobab died, Husham became the king. He was from the region where the Teman people-group lived.
46 And when Hussham was dead, Hadad the sonne of Bedad which smote Midian in the fielde of Moab, reigned in his steade, and the name of his citie was Auith.
When Husham died, Hadad, the son of Bedad, became the king. He [ruled in] Avith city. Hadad’s [army] defeated [the army of the] Midian [people-group] in [the] Moab [region].
47 So Hadad dyed, and Samlah of Mashrecah reigned in his stead.
When Hadad died, Samlah became the king. He was from Masrekah [town].
48 And Samlah dyed, and Shaul of Rehoboth by the riuer reigned in his stead.
When Samlah died, Shaul became the king. He was from Rehoboth [city] along the [Euphrates] river.
49 And when Shaul was dead, Baal-hanan the sonne of Achbor reigned in his stead.
When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, became the king.
50 And Baal-hanan dyed, and Hadad reigned in his stead, and the name of his citie was Pai, and his wiues name Mehetabel the daughter of Matred the daughter of Mezahab.
When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became the king. He was from Pau city. His wife’s name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred and the granddaughter of Me-Zahab.
51 Hadad dyed also, and there were dukes in Edom, duke Timna, duke Aliah, duke Ietheth,
Then Hadad died. The leaders of the clans of the Edom people-group were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,
52 Duke Aholibamah, duke Elah, duke Pinon,
Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
53 Duke Kenaz, duke Teman, duke Mibzar,
Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
54 Duke Magdiel, duke Iram: these were the dukes of Edom.
Magdiel, and Iram.
