Psalms 94
1 The Lord is a God of vengeance! God of vengeance, shine out!
O God der wraken! o HEERE, God der wraken! verschijn blinkende.
2 Stand up, judge of the earth, and pay back those who are proud what they deserve.
Gij, Rechter der aarde! verhef U; breng vergelding weder over de hovaardigen.
3 How long, Lord? How long will the wicked celebrate in triumph?
Hoe lang zullen de goddelozen, o HEERE! hoe lang zullen de goddelozen van vreugde opspringen?
4 How long will you let them pour out their arrogant words? How long will these evil people go on boasting?
Uitgieten? hard spreken? alle werkers der ongerechtigheid zich beroemen?
5 Lord, they crush your people; they oppress those you call your own.
O HEERE! zij verbrijzelen Uw volk, en zij verdrukken Uw erfdeel.
6 They kill widows and foreigners; they murder orphans.
De weduwe en den vreemdeling doden zij, en zij vermoorden de wezen.
7 They say, “The Lord can't see what we're doing. Israel's God doesn't pay any attention to us.”
En zeggen: De HEERE ziet het niet, en de God van Jakob merkt het niet.
8 Take another look, you stupid people! Fools—when will you ever get the point?
Aanmerkt, gij onvernuftigen onder het volk! en gij dwazen! wanneer zult gij verstandig worden?
9 Do you think the creator of the ear can't hear? Do you think the maker of the eye can't see?
Zou Hij, Die het oor plant, niet horen? zou Hij, Die het oog formeert, niet aanschouwen?
10 Do you think that the one who punishes nations won't punish you too? Do you think that the one who teaches human beings knowledge doesn't know anything?
Zou Hij, Die de heidenen tuchtigt, niet straffen, Hij, Die den mens wetenschap leert?
11 The Lord knows the thoughts of human beings—he knows they are pointless.
De HEERE weet de gedachten des mensen, dat zij ijdelheid zijn.
12 Those you discipline are happy, Lord; those you teach from your Law.
Welgelukzalig is de man, o HEERE! dien Gij tuchtigt, en dien Gij leert uit Uw wet,
13 You give them peace in days of trouble, until a pit is dug to trap the wicked.
Om hem rust te geven van de kwade dagen; totdat de kuil voor den goddeloze gegraven wordt.
14 For the Lord will not give up on his people; he will not abandon his own.
Want de HEERE zal Zijn volk niet begeven, en Hij zal Zijn erve niet verlaten.
15 Justice will once again be based on what is right; those who are sincere will support it.
Want het oordeel zal wederkeren tot de gerechtigheid; en alle oprechten van hart zullen hetzelve navolgen.
16 Who came to my defense against the wicked; who stood up for me against those who do evil?
Wie zal voor mij staan tegen de boosdoeners? Wie zal zich voor mij stellen tegen de werkers der ongerechtigheid?
17 If the Lord hadn't helped me, I would have soon gone down into the silence of the grave.
Ten ware dat de HEERE mij een Hulp geweest ware, mijn ziel had bijna in de stilte gewoond.
18 I shouted out, “My foot's slipping!” and your trustworthy love, Lord, kept me from falling.
Als ik zeide: Mijn voet wankelt; Uw goedertierenheid, o HEERE! ondersteunde mij.
19 When my mind was full of worries, you comforted me and encouraged me.
Als mijn gedachten binnen in mij vermenigvuldigd werden, hebben Uw vertroostingen mijn ziel verkwikt.
20 Can unjust judges really be on your side, Lord, when their corrupt use of the law causes misery?
Zou zich de stoel der schadelijkheden met U vergezelschappen, die moeite verdicht bij inzetting?
21 They work together to destroy good people; they condemn those who are innocent to death.
Zij rotten zich samen tegen de ziel des rechtvaardigen, en zij verdoemen onschuldig bloed.
22 But the Lord protects me like a fortress; my God is the rock that keeps me safe.
Doch de HEERE is mij geweest tot een Hoog Vertrek, en mijn God tot een Steenrots mijner toevlucht.
23 He will turn the wickedness of evil people back upon them; he will destroy them because of their sins; the Lord our God will destroy them.
En Hij zal hun ongerechtigheid op hen doen wederkeren, en Hij zal hen in hun boosheid verdelgen; de HEERE, onze God, zal hen verdelgen.
