Psalms 56

1 For the music director. According to “Dove on Distant Oaks.” A psalm (miktam) of David concerning the time the Philistines captured him in Gath. God, please be gracious to me, for people are persecuting me; my attackers fight against me all day long.

Au maître-chantre. — Sur «Colombe des térébinthes lointains.»!- Poème de David, lorsque les Philistins le prirent dans Gath. Aie pitié de moi, ô Dieu! Car des hommes s'acharnent à ma perte; Tout le jour ils m'assaillent et me persécutent.

2 My enemies chase me down all the time—there are many of them, attacking me in their arrogance.

Tout le jour mes adversaires s'acharnent à me perdre; Car ils sont nombreux, ceux qui me provoquent avec insolence.

3 But when I'm afraid, I trust in you.

Aux jours d'alarme, Je me confierai en toi.

4 I thank God for his promises. I trust in God, so why should I be fearful? What can mere human beings do to me?

Avec le secours de Dieu, j'exalterai sa parole. En Dieu je me confie, je ne crains rien; Que pourrait me faire l'homme mortel?

5 They constantly twist my words against me; they spend all their time thinking of evil things to do to me.

Sans cesse ils tordent mes paroles; Toutes leurs pensées tendent à me nuire.

6 They gather together in their hiding places to keep watch on me, hoping to kill me.

Ils s'assemblent, ils s'embusquent, ils observent mes pas; Car ils en veulent à ma vie.

7 Will they escape when they do so much evil? God, in anger bring these people down!

La méchanceté les sauvera-t-elle? Dieu, précipite les peuples dans ta colère!

8 You've kept track of all my wanderings. You've collected all my tears in your bottle. You've kept a record of each one.

Tu comptes mes pas dans ma vie d'exil; Recueille mes larmes dans tes urnes: Ne sont-elles pas inscrites dans ton livre?

9 Then those who hate me will run away when I call for your help. For I know this: God is for me!

Au jour où je crierai, mes ennemis reculeront; Je sais que Dieu est pour moi.

10 I thank God for his promises. I thank the Lord for his promises.

Avec le secours de Dieu, j'exalterai sa parole; Oui, avec le secours de l'Eternel, j'exalterai sa parole.

11 I trust in God, so why should I be fearful? What can mere human beings do to me?

En Dieu je me confie; je ne crains rien; Que pourrait me faire l'homme mortel?

12 God, I will keep my promises to you. I will give thank offerings to you,

Dieu, je me souviens des promesses que je t'ai faites. Je te rendrai des actions de grâces!

13 for you have saved me from death and kept me from falling. Now I walk in the presence of God, in the light that gives life.

Car tu as délivré mon âme de la mort, Et tu préserveras mes pieds de toute chute. Afin que je marche devant toi, ô Dieu, Dans la lumière de la vie!
