< Psalms 124 >

1 A song for pilgrims going up to Jerusalem. A psalm of David. If the Lord hadn't been for us, what would have happened? Let everyone in Israel say:
Faarfannaa ol baʼuu. Faarfannaa Daawit. Israaʼel akkana haa jedhu: Utuu Waaqayyo garee keenya taʼuu baatee,
2 If the Lord hadn't been for us, what would have happened when people came and attacked us?
utuu Waaqayyo garee keenya taʼuu baatee, yommuu namoonni nutti kaʼanitti,
3 They would have swallowed us alive when their anger raged against us.
yommuu aariin isaanii nutti bobaʼetti, silaa isaan utuu nu lubbuun jirruu nu liqimsu turan;
4 Like a flood they would have swept over us; like a rushing torrent they would have submerged us.
lolaan nu liqimsee dhaʼaan bishaanii nurra yaaʼa ture;
5 They would have rushed over us like raging waters, drowning us.
bishaan hamaan nu fudhatee bada ture.
6 Praise the Lord, who didn't hand us over to them as prey to be ripped apart by their teeth.
Waaqayyo akka nu ilkaan isaaniitiin cicciramnuuf dabarsee itti nu hin kennin sun haa eebbifamu.
7 We escaped from them like a bird flying out of a hunter's trap. The trap was broken and we flew away!
Akkuma simbirri kiyyoo adamsituu jalaa baatu, nu isaan jalaa baaneerra; kiyyoon ni ciccite; nus jalaa baane.
8 Our help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
Gargaarsi keenya maqaa Waaqayyoo, Uumaa samii fi lafa sanaa ti.
