< Mark 9 >

1 Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth: some standing here won't die before they see the kingdom of God having come with power.”
And he saide vnto them, Verely I say vnto you, that there be some of them that stande here, which shall not taste of death till they haue seene the kingdome of God come with power.
2 Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him, and led them up a high mountain to be by themselves. His appearance totally changed.
And sixe dayes after, Iesus taketh vnto him Peter, and Iames, and Iohn, and carieth them vp into an hie mountaine out of the way alone, and his shape was changed before them.
3 His clothes shone a brilliant white, whiter than anyone on earth could bleach them.
And his rayment did shine, and was very white, as snowe, so white as no fuller can make vpon the earth.
4 Then Elijah and Moses appeared in front of them as well, talking with Jesus.
And there appeared vnto them Elias with Moses, and they were talking with Iesus.
5 Peter spoke up and said, “Rabbi, it's great for us to be here! We should make three shelters—one each for you, Moses, and Elijah.”
Then Peter answered, and said to Iesus, Master, it is good for vs to be here: let vs make also three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
6 (He really didn't know what to say because they were all so frightened!)
Yet hee knewe not what he saide: for they were afraide.
7 Then a cloud covered them, and a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, the one I love. Listen to him.”
And there was a cloude that shadowed them, and a voyce came out of the cloude, saying, This is my beloued Sonne: heare him.
8 Then, all of a sudden, as they were watching, there was nobody. Only Jesus was with them.
And suddenly they looked roud about, and sawe no more any man saue Iesus only with them.
9 As they came down the mountain Jesus instructed them not to tell anyone what they'd seen until the Son of man had risen from the dead.
And as they came downe from the mountaine, he charged them, that they should tell no man what they had seene, saue when the Sonne of man were risen from the dead againe.
10 They kept this to themselves, but they did argue with each other over what it meant to rise from the dead.
So they kept that matter to themselues, and demaunded one of another, what the rising from the dead againe should meane?
11 “Why do the religious teachers state that Elijah has to come first?” they asked him.
Also they asked him, saying, Why say the Scribes, that Elias must first come?
12 “It's true that Elijah comes first to prepare everything,” Jesus replied. “But why then does it say in Scripture that the Son of man has to suffer so much and be treated with contempt?
And he answered, and said vnto them, Elias verely shall first come, and restore all things: and as it is written of the Sonne of man, hee must suffer many things, and be set at nought.
13 However, I tell you that Elijah has come, and they abused him in whatever way they wanted, just as Scripture said they would.”
But I say vnto you, that Elias is come, (and they haue done vnto him whatsoeuer they would) as it is written of him.
14 When they returned to the other disciples, they saw them surrounded by a large crowd and some religious teachers arguing with them.
And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the Scribes disputing with them.
15 As soon as the crowd saw Jesus they were in total awe, and ran to greet him.
And straightway all the people, when they behelde him, were amased, and ranne to him, and saluted him.
16 “What are you arguing with them about?” Jesus asked them.
Then hee asked the Scribes, What dispute you among your selues?
17 One of the people in the crowd answered, “Rabbi, I brought my son to you. He has an evil spirit that prevents him speaking.
And one of the companie answered, and said, Master, I haue brought my sonne vnto thee, which hath a dumme spirit:
18 Whenever he has a seizure it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and he becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive it out of him, but they couldn't do it.”
And wheresoeuer he taketh him, he teareth him, and he fometh, and gnasheth his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples, that they should cast him out, and they could not.
19 “You unbelieving people!” Jesus responded. “How long must I remain here with you? How long do I have to put up with you? Bring him over here to me!”
Then he answered him, and said, O faithlesse generation, how long now shall I be with you! how long now shall I suffer you! Bring him vnto me.
20 So they brought him to Jesus. When the evil spirit saw Jesus it immediately sent the boy into convulsions and threw him on the ground, where he rolled around, foaming at the mouth.
So they brought him vnto him: and assoone as the spirit sawe him, hee tare him, and hee fell downe on the ground walowing and foming.
21 “How long has he had this?” Jesus asked the boy's father. “Since he was small,” the father replied.
Then he asked his father, How long time is it since he hath bin thus? And he said, Of a childe.
22 “Often it throws him into the fire to burn him to death, or throws him into water to drown him. Please have mercy on us and help, if you can.”
And oft times he casteth him into the fire, and into the water to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, helpe vs, and haue compassion vpon vs.
23 “Why do you say, ‘if you can?’” replied Jesus. “Whoever trusts has every power!”
And Iesus said vnto him, If thou canst beleeue it, al things are possible to him that beleeueth.
24 “I do trust in you,” the man shouted out right away. “Help me not to distrust you.”
And straightway the father of the childe crying with teares, saide, Lord, I beleeue: helpe my vnbeliefe.
25 Jesus, seeing that the crowd was closing in, commanded the evil spirit, “Spirit that causes deafness and dumbness, I order you to come out of him and never return.”
When Iesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the vncleane spirit, saying vnto him, Thou domme and deafe spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26 The spirit screamed and threw the boy into severe convulsions. Then the spirit came out of the boy and left him for dead—to the extent that many of the people said, “He's dead.”
Then the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out, and he was as one dead, in so much that many said, He is dead.
27 But Jesus took the boy by the hand and helped him up, and he got to his feet.
But Iesus tooke his hande, and lift him vp, and he arose.
28 Later, when Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him in private, “Why couldn't we drive the evil spirit out?”
And when hee was come into the house, his disciples asked him secretly, Why could not we cast him out?
29 “This kind can't be driven out except by prayer,” Jesus told them.
And he saide vnto them, This kinde can by no other meanes come foorth, but by prayer and fasting.
30 They left and passed through Galilee. Jesus didn't want anyone to know where he was
And they departed thence, and went together through Galile, and hee would not that any should haue knowen it.
31 because he was teaching his disciples. “The Son of man will be betrayed to human authorities,” he told them. “They will kill him, but three days later he will rise again.”
For he taught his disciples, and saide vnto them, The Sonne of man shalbe deliuered into the handes of men, and they shall kill him, but after that he is killed, he shall rise againe the third day.
32 They didn't understand what he meant and were too afraid to ask him about it.
But they vnderstoode not that saying, and were afraide to aske him.
33 They arrived at Capernaum, and once they were inside the house where they were staying, Jesus asked them, “What were you talking about on the way?”
After, he came to Capernaum: and when he was in the house, he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among you by the way?
34 But they didn't say anything because they had been arguing over who was the most important.
And they helde their peace: for by the way they reasoned among themselues, who should bee the chiefest.
35 Jesus sat down and called the twelve disciples together. “If anyone wants to be first, he has to be the very last, the servant of everyone else,” he told them.
And he sate downe, and called the twelue, and said to them, If any man desire to be first, the same shalbe last of all, and seruant vnto all.
36 He took a small child and had the child stand right in the middle of them. Then he picked up and hugged the child, and told them,
And he tooke a litle childe, and set him in the middes of them, and tooke him in his armes, and sayd vnto them,
37 “Whoever welcomes a child like this in my name, welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me doesn't welcome me but the one who sent me.”
Whosoeuer shall receiue one of such litle children in my Name, receiueth me: and whosoeuer receiueth mee, receiueth not me, but him that sent me.
38 John said to Jesus, “Rabbi, we saw someone driving out demons in your name. We tried to stop him because he wasn't one of us.”
Then Iohn answered him, saying, Master, we sawe one casting out deuils by thy Name, which followeth not vs, and we forbade him, because he followeth vs not.
39 “Don't stop him,” Jesus replied. “For no one who is doing miracles in my name can curse me at the same time.
But Iesus sayd, Forbid him not: for there is no man that can doe a miracle by my Name, that can lightly speake euill of me.
40 Anyone who is not against us is for us.
For whosoeuer is not against vs, is on our part.
41 Anyone who gives a cup of water to you in my name, because you belong to Christ, won't lose their reward, believe me.
And whosoeuer shall giue you a cup of water to drinke for my Names sake, because ye belong to Christ, verely I say vnto you, he shall not lose his rewarde.
42 But if anyone leads one of these little ones who trust in me into sin, it would be better for them if they were thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around their neck.
And whosoeuer shall offend one of these litle ones, that beleeue in me, it were better for him rather, that a milstone were hanged about his necke, and that he were cast into the sea.
43 If your hand leads you to sin, cut it off! It's better to enter eternal life as a cripple than to go with both hands into Gehenna, into the fire that can't be put out. (Geenna g1067)
Wherefore, if thine hand cause thee to offend, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life, maimed, then hauing two hands, to goe into hell, into the fire that neuer shalbe quenched, (Geenna g1067)
Where their worme dyeth not, and the fire neuer goeth out.
45 If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off! It's better to enter eternal life lame than to be thrown into Gehenna still having two feet. (Geenna g1067)
Likewise, if thy foote cause thee to offend, cut it off: it is better for thee to go halt into life, then hauing two feete, to be cast into hell, into the fire that neuer shalbe quenched, (Geenna g1067)
Where their worme dyeth not, and the fire neuer goeth out.
47 If your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out! It's better to enter the kingdom of God with just one eye than to be thrown into Gehenna still having both eyes, (Geenna g1067)
And if thine eye cause thee to offende, plucke it out: it is better for thee to goe into the kingdome of God with one eye, then hauing two eyes, to be cast into hell fire, (Geenna g1067)
48 where the worm doesn't die and the fire never goes out.
Where their worme dyeth not, and the fire neuer goeth out.
49 Everybody will be ‘salted’ by fire.
For euery man shalbe salted with fire: and euery sacrifice shalbe salted with salt.
50 Salt is good, but if it loses its taste, how could you make it salty again? You need to be like salt, and live in peace with one another.”
Salt is good: but if the salt be vnsauerie, wherewith shall it be seasoned? haue salt in your selues, and haue peace one with another.
