1 A message from the Lord came to me, saying,
Again the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
2 “Son of man, sing a funeral song for Tyre.
“Now you, son of man, begin a lamentation concerning Tyre,
3 Tell Tyre, the city that stands at the gateway to the sea, supplying goods to many overseas nations, that this is what the Lord God says: Tyre, you say to yourself, ‘I'm so beautiful!’
and say to Tyre, who lives within the gates of the sea, merchants of peoples to many islands, the Lord Yahweh says this to you: Tyre, you have said, 'I am perfect in beauty.'
4 Your borders extend far across the sea. Your builders put you together perfectly like a beautiful ship.
Your borders are in the heart of the seas; your builders have perfected your beauty.
5 They built you with pine timber from Mount Hermon. They used a cedar from Lebanon to make your mast.

26 Your rowers took you a long way out on the water, but the east wind broke you apart in there in the open ocean.
Your rowers have brought you into vast seas; the eastern wind has broken you in the middle of them.
27 You've lost everything! You wealth, your goods, your cargo, your crew of sailors, officers, and repairmen, your traders and all the soldiers you had, along with everyone else on board, fall into the depths of the sea on the day of your shipwreck.
Your wealth, merchandise, and trade goods; your sailors and pilots, and ship builders; your traders of merchandise and all the men of war who are in you, and all your crew—they will sink into the depths of the sea on the day of your destruction.
28 The land around shakes when your sailors scream.
Cities at the sea will tremble at the sound of your pilots' cry;
29 All the rowers abandon their ships. The sailors and all the ships' officers stand on the shore.
All those who handle oars will come down from their ships; mariners and all the pilots on the sea will stand on the land.
30 They shout out for you and burst out crying. They mourn for you by throwing dust on their heads and rolling in ashes.
Then they will make you listen to their voice and will wail bitterly; they will cast dust up on their heads. They will roll about in ashes.
31 They shave their heads for you and clothe themselves in sackcloth. They weep for you, crying out in agony and heartfelt mourning
They will shave their heads bald for you and bind themselves with sackcloth, and they will weep bitterly over you and they will cry out.
32 As they weep and wail over you, they sing a funeral song for you: ‘Who could compare to Tyre, now destroyed out in the sea?
They will lift up their wails of lamentation for you and sing dirges over you, Who is like Tyre, who has now been brought to silence in the middle of the sea?
33 You made many people happy when they received your goods from far across the sea. You made the kings of the earth rich with all your valuable goods and products.
When your merchandise went ashore from the sea, it satisfied many peoples; you enriched the kings of the earth with your great wealth and merchandise!
34 Now you have been shipwrecked by the sea, sunk in deep water, and your cargo and your people have gone down with you.
But when you were shattered by the seas, by deep waters, your merchandise and all your crew sank!
35 Everyone living on the coastlands is shocked at what happened to you. Their kings are horrified; their faces twisted with fear.
All the inhabitants of the coasts were appalled at you, and their kings shuddered in horror! Their faces trembled!
36 The traders of the nations hiss at you in derision; disaster has brought you down and you're finished forever.”
The merchants of the people hiss at you; you have become a horror, and you will be no more forever.”
