Ecclesiastes 6
1 I have observed another evil here on earth, and it has a great impact on humanity.
He observado otro mal aquí en la tierra, y tiene un gran impacto en la humanidad.
2 God gives wealth, possessions, and honor to someone. They have everything they want. But God doesn't let them enjoy what they have. Instead somebody else does! This is hard to fathom, and is truly evil.
Dios le da riqueza, posesiones y honor a alguien. Ellos tienen todo lo que quieren. Pero Dios no les permite disfrutar de lo que tienen. En su lugar, ¡otro lo hace! Esto es difícil de entender, y es verdaderamente cruel.
3 A man could have one hundred children, and grow old, but it wouldn't matter how long his life was if he couldn't enjoy it and at the end receive a decent burial. I would say that a stillborn child would be better off than him.
Un hombre podría tener cien hijos, y envejecer, pero no importaría lo larga que fuera su vida si no pudiera disfrutarla y al final recibir un entierro decente. Yo diría que un niño nacido muerto estaría mejor que él.
4 The way a stillborn child comes into the world and then leaves is painfully hard to understand—arriving and departing in darkness—and who he would have been is never known.
La forma en que un niño que nace muerto viene al mundo y luego se va es dolorosamente difícil de entender -se va en la oscuridad- y nunca se sabe quién habría sido.
5 He never saw the light of day or knew what it was like to live. Yet the child finds rest, and not this man.
Nunca vio la luz del día ni supo lo que era vivir. Sin embargo, el niño encuentra el descanso, y este hombre no.
6 Even if this man were to live a thousand years twice over he still wouldn't be happy. Don't we all end up in the same place—the grave?
Aunque este hombre viviera mil años dos veces, no sería feliz. ¿Acaso no acabamos todos en el mismo lugar: la tumba?
7 Everyone works so they can live, but they're never satisfied.
Todo el mundo trabaja para poder vivir, pero nunca están santisfechos.
8 So then, what real advantage do wise people have over those who are fools? And do poor people really gain anything in knowing how to behave in front of others?
Entonces, ¿qué ventaja real tienen los sabios sobre los insensatos? Y los pobres, ¿ganan realmente algo con saber comportarse ante los demás?
9 Be happy with what you have instead of running after what you don't! But this is also hard to do, like running after the wind.
¡Alégrate de lo que tienes en lugar de correr detrás de lo que no tienes! Pero esto también es difícil de hacer, como correr detrás del viento.
10 Everything that exists has already been described. Everyone knows what people are like, and that you can't win an argument with a superior.
Todo lo que existe ya ha sido descrito. Todo el mundo sabe cómo es la gente, y que no se puede ganar una discusión con un superior.
11 For the more words you use, the harder it is to make sense. So what's the point?
Porque cuantas más palabras se utilizan, más difícil es que tengan sentido. Entonces, ¿qué sentido tiene?
12 Who knows what's best for us and our lives? During our short lives that pass like shadows we have many unanswered questions. And who can tell us what will happen when we're gone?
¿Quién sabe lo que es mejor para nosotros y nuestras vidas? Durante nuestras cortas vidas, que pasan como sombras, tenemos muchas preguntas sin respuesta. Y quién puede decirnos qué pasará cuando nos hayamos ido?
