Psalms 83

1 A canticle of a psalm for Asaph. O God, who shall be like to thee? hold not thy peace, neither be thou still, O God.

Ein Psalmlied Assaphs. Gott, schweige doch nicht also und sei doch nicht so stille; Gott, halte doch nicht so inne!

2 For lo, thy enemies have made a noise: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.

Denn siehe, deine Feinde toben, und die dich hassen, richten den Kopf auf.

3 They have taken a malicious counsel against thy people, and have consulted against thy saints.

Sie machen listige Anschläge wider dein Volk und ratschlagen wider deine Verborgenen.

4 They have said: Come and let us destroy them, so that they be not a nation: and let the name of Israel be remembered no more.

Wohl her! sprechen sie, laßt uns sie ausrotten, daß sie kein Volk seien, daß des Namens Israel nicht mehr gedacht werde!

5 For they have contrived with one consent: they have made a covenant together against thee,

Denn sie haben sich miteinander vereiniget und einen Bund wider dich gemacht:

6 The tabernacles of the Edomites, and the Ismahelites: Moab, and the Agarens,

die Hütten der Edomiter und Ismaeliter, der Moabiter und Hagariter,

7 Gebal, and Ammon and Amalec: the Philistines, with the inhabitants of Tyre.

der Gebaliter, Ammoniter und Amalekiter, die Philister, samt denen zu Tyrus;

8 Yea, and the Assyrian also is joined with them: they are come to the aid of the sons of Lot.

Assur hat sich auch zu ihnen geschlagen und helfen den Kindern Lot. (Sela)

9 Do to them as thou didst to Madian and to Sisara: as to Jabin at the brook of Cisson.

Tu ihnen wie den Midianitern, wie Sissera, wie Jabin am Bach Kison,

10 Who perished at Endor: and became as dung for the earth.

die vertilget wurden bei Endor und wurden zu Kot auf Erden.

11 Make their princes like Oreb, and Zeb, and Zebee, and Salmana. All their princes,

Mache ihre Fürsten wie Oreb und Seeb, alle ihre Obersten wie Sebah und Zalmuna,

12 Who have said: Let us possess the sanctuary of God for an inheritance.

die da sagen: Wir wollen die Häuser Gottes einnehmen.

13 O my God, make them like a wheel; and as stubble before the wind.

Gott, mache sie wie einen Wirbel, wie Stoppeln vor dem Winde!

14 As fire which burneth the wood: and as a flame burning mountains:

Wie ein Feuer den Wald verbrennet, und wie eine Flamme, die Berge anzündet,

15 So shalt thou pursue them with thy tempest: and shalt trouble them in thy wrath.

also verfolge sie mit deinem Wetter und erschrecke sie mit deinem Ungewitter.

16 Fill their faces with shame; and they shall seek thy name, O Lord.

Mache ihr Angesicht voll Schande, daß sie nach deinem Namen fragen müssen.

17 Let them be ashamed and troubled for ever and ever: and let them be confounded and perish.

Schämen müssen sie sich und erschrecken immer mehr und mehr und zuschanden werden und umkommen.

18 And let them know that the Lord is thy name: thou alone art the most High over all the earth.
