Jeremiah 26
1 In the beginning of the reign of Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda, came this word from the Lord, saying:
Au commencement du règne de Jéhojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, cette parole fut prononcée de la part de l'Éternel, en ces termes:
2 Thus saith the Lord: Stand in the court of the house of the Lord, and speak to all the cities of Juda, out of which they come, to adore in the house of the Lord, all the words which I have commanded thee to to speak unto them: leave not out one word.
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Tiens-toi dans le parvis de la maison de l'Éternel, et dis à ceux qui de toutes les villes de Juda viennent adorer dans la maison de l'Éternel, toutes les choses que je t'ai ordonné de leur dire; n'en retranche pas un mot.
3 If so be they will hearken and be converted every one from his evil way; that I may repent me of the evil that I think to do unto them for the wickedness of their doings.
Peut-être écouteront-ils, et renonceront-ils chacun à leur mauvais train; alors je me repentirai du mal que j'avais pensé à leur faire à cause de la méchanceté de leurs actions.
4 And thou shalt say to them: Thus saith the Lord: If you will not hearken to me to walk in my law, which I have given to you:
Et dis-leur: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Si vous ne m'obéissez pas, en suivant ma loi que j'ai mise sous vos yeux,
5 To give ear to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent to you rising up early: and sending, and you have not hearkened:
en écoutant les paroles de mes serviteurs, les prophètes, que je vous ai envoyés dès le matin, sans que vous écoutiez,
6 I will make this house like Silo: and I will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.
je réduirai cette maison à l'état de Silo, et je livrerai cette ville à l'exécration de tous les peuples de la terre.
7 And the priests, and the prophets, and all the people heard Jeremias speaking these words in the house of the Lord.
Et les sacrificateurs, et les prophètes, et tout le peuple, entendirent Jérémie prononcer ces paroles dans la maison de l'Éternel;
8 And when Jeremias made an end of speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, the priests, and the prophets, and all the people laid hold on him, saying: Let him be put to death.
et quand Jérémie eut achevé de dire tout ce que l'Éternel lui avait ordonné de dire à tout le peuple, les sacrificateurs, et les prophètes, et tout le peuple saisirent Jérémie, en disant: Tu mourras! tu mourras!
9 Why hath he prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying: This house shall be like Silo; and this city shall be made desolate, without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered together against Jeremias in the house of the Lord.
Pourquoi prophétises-tu au nom de l'Éternel en disant: Cette maison sera réduite à l'état de Silo, et cette ville dévastée, dépeuplée? Et tout le peuple s'attroupa contre Jérémie dans la maison de l'Éternel.
10 And the princes of Juda heard these words: and they went up from the king’s house into the house of the Lord, and sat in the entry of the new gate of the house of the Lord.
Et les princes de Juda entendant ces choses, montèrent de la maison du roi à la maison de l'Éternel, et se placèrent à l'avenue de la porte neuve de l'Éternel.
11 And the priests and the prophets spoke to the princes, and to all the people, saying: The judgement of death is for this man: because he hath prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.
Et les sacrificateurs et les prophètes parlèrent aux princes et tout le peuple en ces termes: Cet homme mérite la mort, car il a prophétisé contre cette ville, ainsi que vous l'avez entendu de vos oreilles.
12 Then Jeremias spoke to all the princes, and to all the people, saying: The Lord sent me to prophesy concerning this house, and concerning this city all the words you have heard.
Alors Jérémie s'adressa à tous les princes et à tout le peuple en ces termes: L'Éternel m'a donné la mission de prophétiser, contre cette maison et contre cette ville, toutes les choses que vous avez entendues.
13 Now therefore amend your ways, and your doings, and hearken to the voice of the Lord your God: and the Lord will repent of the evil that he hath spoken against you.
Or maintenant, amendez vos voies et vos œuvres, et écoutez la voix de l'Éternel votre Dieu; et l'Éternel se repentira des menaces qu'il a prononcées contre vous.
14 But as for me, behold I am in your hands: do with me what is good and right in your eyes:
Quant à moi, me voici entre vos mains; traitez-moi comme il vous semblera bon et convenable;
15 But know ye, and understand, that if you put me to death, you will shed innocent blood against your own selves, and against this city, and the inhabitants thereof. For in truth the Lord sent me to you, to speak all these words in your hearing.
seulement sachez que si vous me faites mourir, vous faites peser le sang innocent sur vous, et sur cette ville, et sur ses habitants, car il est vrai que l'Éternel m'a délégué auprès de vous pour prononcer à vos oreilles toutes ces paroles.
16 Then the princes, and all the people said to the priests, and to the prophets: There is no judgement of death for this man: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.
Alors les princes et tout le peuple dirent aux sacrificateurs et aux prophètes: Cet homme ne mérite point la mort; car c'est au nom de l'Éternel notre Dieu qu'il nous a parlé.
17 And some of the ancients of the land rose up: and they spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying:
Et des hommes d'entre les Anciens du pays se levèrent, et parlèrent à toute l'assemblée du peuple en ces mots:
18 Micheas of Morasthi was a prophet in the days of Ezechias king of Juda, and he spoke to all the people of Juda, saying: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Sion shall be ploughed like a field, and Jerusalem shall be a heap of stones: and the mountain of the house the high places of woods.
Michée, de Moréseth, prophétisait du temps d'Ézéchias, roi de Juda, et il parla à tout le peuple de Juda, disant: Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Sion sera labourée comme un champ, et Jérusalem sera changée en un monceau de ruines, et la montagne de la Maison en une croupe boisée.
19 Did Ezechias king of Juda, and all Juda, condemn him to death? did they not fear the Lord, and beseech the face of the Lord: and the Lord repented of the evil that they had spoken against them? therefore we are doing a great evil against our souls.
Est-ce que Ézéchias, roi de Juda, et tout Juda l'ont fait mourir? ne craignit-il pas l'Éternel? et ne supplia-t-il pas l'Éternel? Et l'Éternel se repentit des menaces qu'il avait prononcées contre eux; et nous, nous commettrions un si grand crime au péril de nos âmes?
20 There was also a man that prophesied in the name of the Lord, Urias the son of Semei of Cariathiarim: and he prophesied against this city, and against this land, according to all the words of Jeremias.
Il y eut aussi un homme qui prophétisait au nom de l'Éternel, Urie, fils de Sémaïa, de Kiriath-Jeharim, et il prophétisa contre cette ville et contre ce pays les mêmes choses que Jérémie.
21 And Joakim, and all his men in power, and his princes heard these words: and the king sought to put him to death. And Urias heard it, and was afraid, and fled and went into Egypt.
Et quand le roi Jéhojakim, et tous ses guerriers, et tous ses généraux entendirent ses discours, le roi chercha à le faire mourir. Mais quand Urie l'apprit, il craignit, et il s'enfuit, et vint en Egypte.
22 And king Joakim sent men into Egypt, Elnathan the son of Achobor, and men with him into Egypt.
Alors le roi Jéhojakim envoya des hommes en Egypte, Elnathan, fils de Hachbor, et des gens avec lui en Egypte,
23 And they brought Urias out of Egypt: and brought him to king Joakim, and he slew him with the sword: and he cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.
et ils ramenèrent Urie d'Egypte, et le conduisirent au roi Jéhojakim, qui le fit périr par l'épée, et jeta son cadavre dans les tombeaux de la populace. –
24 So the hand of Ahicam the son of Saphan was with Jeremias, that he should not be delivered into the hands of the people, to put him to death.
Cependant la main d'Achikam, fils de Schaphan, fut avec Jérémie, en sorte qu'on ne le livra pas aux mains du peuple pour le faire mourir.
