2 Chronicles 14

1 And Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

Abia se coucha avec ses pères, et on l'enterra dans la ville de David. Asa, son fils, régna à sa place; de son temps, le pays se reposa pendant dix ans.

2 And Asa did what was good and right in the sight of Jehovah his God;

Asa fit ce qui est bien et droit aux yeux de Yahweh, son Dieu. Il fit disparaître les autels de l'étranger et les hauts lieux,

3 and he took away the altars of the strange [gods] and the high places, and broke the columns, and cut down the Asherahs;

il brisa les stèles et coupa les aschérahs.

4 and commanded Judah to seek Jehovah the God of their fathers, and to practise the law and the commandment.

Il ordonna à Juda de rechercher Yahweh, le Dieu de ses pères, et d'accomplir la loi et le précepte.

5 And he removed out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun-images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.

Il fit disparaître de toutes les villes de Juda les hauts lieux et les statues; et le royaume fut en repos devant lui.

6 And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because Jehovah had given him rest.

Il bâtit des villes fortes en Juda; car le pays était en repos, et il n'y eut pas de guerre contre lui pendant ces années là, parce que Yahweh lui donna du repos.

7 And he said to Judah, Let us build these cities, and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars, while the land is yet before us; for we have sought Jehovah our God; we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side. And they built and prospered.

Il dit à Juda: " Bâtissons ces villes, entourons-les de murs, de tours, de portes et de serrures; le pays est encore ouvert devant nous; car nous avons recherché Yahweh, notre Dieu; nous l'avons recherché, et il nous a donné du repos de tous cotés. " Ils bâtirent donc et réussirent.

8 And Asa had an army that bore targets and spears: out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bore shields and drew the bow, two hundred and eighty thousand: all these, mighty men of valour.

Asa avait une armée de trois cent mille hommes de Juda, portant le bouclier et la lance, et de deux cent quatre-vingt mille de Benjamin, portant le bouclier et tirant de l'arc, tous vaillants hommes.

9 And Zerah the Ethiopian came out against him with a host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.

Zara, l'éthiopien, sortit contre eux avec une armée d'un million d'hommes et trois cents chars, et il s'avança jusqu'à Marésa.

10 And Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah near Mareshah.

Asa sortit contre lui, et ils se rangèrent en bataille dans la vallée de Séphata, près de Marésa.

11 And Asa cried unto Jehovah his God, and said, Jehovah, it maketh no difference to thee to help, whether there be much or no power: help us, O Jehovah our God, for we rely on thee, and in thy name have we come against this multitude. Jehovah, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

Asa cria vers Yahweh, son Dieu, et dit: " Yahweh, vous pouvez secourir celui qui est faible aussi facilement que celui qui est fort; secourez-nous, Yahweh, notre Dieu! Car c'est sur vous que nous nous appuyons, et c'est en votre nom que nous sommes venus contre cette multitude. Yahweh, vous êtes notre Dieu: qu'un homme ne l'emporte pas contre vous! "

12 And Jehovah smote the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

Yahweh frappa les Ethiopiens devant Asa et devant Juda, et les Ethiopiens prirent la fuite.

13 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them to Gerar; and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that none of them was left alive; for they were crushed before Jehovah and before his army. And they carried away very much spoil.

Asa et le peuple qui était avec lui les poursuivirent jusqu'à Gérare, et il tomba un si grand nombre d'Ethiopiens, qu'il n'y eut plus pour eux espoir de rétablissement, car ils furent brisés devant Yahweh et devant son camp. Asa et son peuple firent un très grand butin;

14 And they smote all the cities round about Gerar, for the terror of Jehovah came upon them; and they spoiled all the cities, for there was very much spoil in them.

ils frappèrent toutes les villes autour de Gérare, car la terreur de Yahweh était sur elles; ils pillèrent toutes les villes, car il s'y trouvait un grand butin.

15 They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

Ils frappèrent aussi les tentes des troupeaux, et ils capturèrent un grand nombre de brebis et des chameaux; et ils s'en revinrent à Jérusalem.
