Proverbs 31
1 The words of king Lamuel. The vision by which his mother instructed him:
Paroles du roi Lamuel; sentences par lesquelles sa mère l'instruisit:
2 “What, O my beloved? What, O beloved of my womb? What, O beloved of my vows?
Que te dirai-je, mon fils? Que te dirai-je, fils de mes entrailles? Que te dirai-je, mon fils, objet de mes vœux?
3 Do not give your substance to women, or your riches to overthrow kings.
Ne livre pas ta vigueur aux femmes, et tes voies à celles qui perdent les rois.
4 Not to kings, O Lamuel, not to kings give wine. For there are no secrets where drunkenness reigns.
Ce n'est point aux rois, Lamuel, ce n'est point aux rois de boire du vin, ni aux puissants de rechercher les liqueurs fermentées:
5 And perhaps they may drink and forget judgments, and alter the case of the sons of the poor.
de peur qu'en buvant ils n'oublient la loi, et ne faussent le droit de tous les malheureux.
6 Give strong drink to the grieving, and wine to those who are bitter in soul.
Donnez des liqueurs fortes à celui qui périt, et du vin à celui dont l'âme est remplie d'amertume:
7 Let them drink, and forget their needs, and remember their sorrow no more.
qu'il boive, et qu'il oublie sa misère, et qu'il ne se souvienne plus de ses peines.
8 Open your mouth for the mute and for all the cases of the sons who are passing through.
Ouvre ta bouche en faveur du muet, pour la cause de tous les abandonnés.
9 Open your mouth, declare what is just, and do justice to the indigent and the poor.
Ouvre ta bouche, rends de justes arrêts, et fais justice au malheureux et à l'indigent. LA FEMME FORTE.
10 Who shall find a strong woman? Far away, and from the furthest parts, is her price.
ALEPH. Qui peut trouver une femme forte? Son prix l'emporte de loin sur celui des perles.
11 The heart of her husband confides in her, and he will not be deprived of spoils.
BETH. Le cœur de son mari a confiance en elle, et les profits ne lui feront pas défaut.
12 She will repay him with good, and not evil, all the days of her life.
GHIMEL. Elle lui fait du bien, et non du mal, tous les jours de sa vie.
13 She has sought wool and flax, and she has worked these by the counsel of her hands.
DALETH. Elle recherche de la laine et du lin, et travaille de sa main joyeuse.
14 She has become like a merchant’s ship, bringing her bread from far away.
HÉ. Elle est comme le vaisseau du marchand, elle apporte son pain de loin.
15 And she has risen in the night, and given a prey to her household, and provisions to her maids.
VAV. Elle se lève lorsqu'il est encore nuit, et elle donne la nourriture à sa maison, et la tâche à ses servantes.
16 She has considered a field and bought it. From the fruit of her own hands, she has planted a vineyard.
ZAÏN. Elle pense à un champ, et elle l'acquiert; du fruit de ses mains, elle plante une vigne.
17 She has wrapped her waist with fortitude, and she has strengthened her arm.
HETH. Elle ceint de force ses reins, et elle affermit ses bras.
18 She has tasted and seen that her tasks are good; her lamp shall not be extinguished at night.
TETH. Elle sent que son gain est bon; sa lampe ne s'éteint pas pendant la nuit.
19 She has put her hand to strong things, and her fingers have taken hold of the spindle.
YOD. Elle met la main à la quenouille, et ses doigts prennent le fuseau.
20 She has opened her hand to the needy, and she has extended her hands to the poor.
CAPH. Elle tend la main au malheureux, elle ouvre la main à l'indigent.
21 She shall not fear, in the cold of snow, for her household. For all those of her household have been clothed two-fold.
LAMED. Elle ne craint pas la neige pour sa maison, car toute sa maison est vêtue de cramoisi.
22 She has made embroidered clothing for herself. Fine linen and purple is her garment.
MEM. Elle se fait des couvertures, le byssus et la pourpre sont ses vêtements.
23 Her husband is noble at the gates, when he sits among the senators of the land.
NUN. Son époux est bien connu aux portes de la ville, lorsqu'il siège avec les anciens du pays.
24 She has made finely woven cloth and sold it, and she has delivered a waistband to the Canaanite.
SAMECH. Elle fait des chemises et les vend, et elle livre des ceintures au marchand.
25 Strength and elegance are her clothing, and she will laugh in the final days.
AÏN. La force et la grâce sont sa parure, et elle se rit de l'avenir.
26 She has opened her mouth to wisdom, and the law of clemency is on her tongue.
PHÉ. Elle ouvre la bouche avec sagesse, et les bonnes paroles sont sur sa langue.
27 She has considered the paths of her household, and she has not eaten her bread in idleness.
TSADÉ. Elle surveille les sentiers de sa maison, et elle ne mange pas le pain d'oisiveté.
28 Her sons rose up and predicted great happiness; her husband rose up and praised her.
QOPH. Ses fils se lèvent et la proclament heureuse; son époux se lève et lui donne des éloges:
29 Many daughters have gathered together riches; you have surpassed them all.
RESCH. « Beaucoup de filles se sont montrées vertueuses; mais toi, tu les surpasses toutes. »
30 Charm is false, and beauty is vain. The woman who fears the Lord, the same shall be praised.
SCHIN. Trompeuse est la grâce, et vaine est la beauté; la femme qui craint Yahweh est celle qui sera louée.
31 Give to her from the fruit of her own hands. And let her works praise her at the gates.
THAV. Donnez-lui du fruit de ses mains, et que ses œuvres disent sa louange aux portes de la ville.
