Nahum 3
1 Woe to the city of blood, filled with all manner of lies and violence. Crime shall not depart from you:
Ai da cidade ensanguentada, que está toda cheia de mentiras e de rapina! não se aparta dela o roubo.
2 the voice of the whip, and the voice of the turning wheels, and of the neighing horse, and the burning chariot, and the horsemen who ride,
Estrépito de açoite há, e o estrondo do ruído das rodas; e os cavalos atropelam, e carros vão saltando.
3 and of the flashing sword and the shining spear, and of a multitude executed and a grievous ruination. Neither is there an end to the dead bodies, and they will fall down upon their dead bodies.
O cavaleiro levanta assim a espada flammejante, como a lança relampagueante, e ali haverá uma multidão de mortos, e abundância de cadáveres, e não terão fim os defuntos; tropeçarão nos seus corpos
4 Because of the multitude of fornications of the kept woman, beautiful and pleasing and practicing evil deeds, who sold nations by her fornications, and families by her evil doing:
Por causa da multidão das fornicações da meretriz mui graciosa, da mestra das feitiçarias, que vendeu os povos com as suas fornicações, e as gerações com as suas feitiçarias.
5 behold, I will come to you, says the Lord of hosts, and I will reveal your shame to your face, and I will show your nakedness to the Gentiles, and your disgrace to kingdoms.
Eis que eu estou contra ti, diz o Senhor dos exércitos, e descobrirei as tuas fraldas sobre a tua face, e às nações mostrarei a tua nudez, e aos reinos a tua vergonha.
6 And I will cast abominations over you, and I will afflict you with abuse, and I will make an example of you.
E lançarei sobre ti coisas abomináveis, e te envergonharei, e pôr-te-ei como espetáculo.
7 And this shall be: everyone who sees you, will recoil from you, and he will say: “Nineveh has been devastated.” Who will shake his head over you? Where might I seek consolation for you?
E há de ser que, todos os que te virem, fugirão de ti, e dirão: Nínive está destruída, quem terá compaixão dela? de onde te buscarei consoladores?
8 Are you better than the populous Alexandria, which dwells along the rivers? Waters encircle it: the sea, with its riches. The waters are its walls.
És tu melhor do que Nóammon, que está assentada nos rios, cercada de águas, que tinha por esplanada o mar, cuja muralha é do mar
9 Ethiopia and Egypt were its strength, and there is no limit. Africa and Northern Africa have been your helpers.
Ethiopia e Egito eram a sua força, e não havia fim: Put e Lybia te foram de socorro.
10 Nevertheless, she has been led away with the transmigration into captivity. Her little ones have been dashed in pieces at the top of every street, and they have cast lots over her celebrities, and all her elite have been fastened together in shackles.
Todavia foi levada cativa para o desterro: também os seus filhos são despedaçados no topo de todas as ruas, e sobre os seus honrados lançaram sortes, e todos os seus grandes foram presos com grilhões.
11 Therefore, you also will become inebriated, and you will be despised, and you will seek help from the opposition.
Tu também serás embriagada, e te esconderás; também buscarás força por causa do inimigo.
12 All your fortresses will be like fig trees with their green figs. If they are shaken violently, they will fall into the mouth of the one who devours.
Todas as tuas fortalezas serão como figueiras com figos temporãos; se se sacodem, caem na boca do que os há de comer.
13 Behold, women are at the center of your people. The gates of your land will be opened wide for your enemies; fire will devour your bars.
Eis que o teu povo no meio de ti será como de mulheres: as portas da tua terra estarão de todo abertas aos teus inimigos: o fogo consumirá os teus ferrolhos.
14 Draw in water because of the blockade; build up your fortresses. Go into the clay and tread; work it to make brick.
Tira águas para o cerco, fortifica as tuas fortalezas, entra no lodo, e pisa o barro, repara o forno dos ladrilhos.
15 There, fire will devour you. You will perish by the sword; it will devour you like the beetle. Gather together like the beetle. Multiply like the locust.
O fogo ali te consumirá, a espada te exterminará, te consumirá, como a locusta; multiplica-te como a locusta, multiplica-te como os gafanhotos.
16 You have made more negotiations than there are stars in the sky. The beetle has spread out and flown away.
Multiplicaste os teus negociantes mais do que as estrelas do céu, a locusta se espalhará e voará.
17 Your guardians are like locusts, and your little ones are like locusts among locusts, which alight on hedges on a cold day. The sun rose up, and they flew away, and there was no way to know the place where they had been.
Os teus coroados são como os gafanhotos, e os teus chefes como os gafanhotos grandes, que se acampam nas sebes nos dias de frio; em subindo o sol voam, de sorte que não se conhece mais o lugar onde estiveram.
18 Your shepherds have become drowsy, king Assur. Your princes will be buried. Your people have remained hidden in the mountains, and there is no one to gather them.
Os teus pastores dormitarão, ó rei da Assyria, os teus ilustres deitar-se-ão, o teu povo se derramará pelos montes; sem que haja quem o ajunte.
19 Your destruction is not hidden; your wound is grievous. All who have heard of your fame have clenched their hands over you, because over whom has your wickedness not trampled continually?
Não há cura para a tua quebradura, a tua ferida é dolorosa: todos os que ouvirem a tua fama baterão as palmas sobre ti; porque, sobre quem não passou continuamente a tua malícia?
