Genesis 49
1 And Jacob called his sons, and said to them,
Jakob berief nun seine Söhne und sprach: "Versammelt euch, damit ich euch verkünde, was euch begegnet in der Folgezeit.
2 Assemble yourselves, that I may tell you what shall happen to you in the last days. Gather yourselves together, and hear me, sons of Jacob; hear Israel, hear your father.
Schart euch zusammen! Ihr Jakobssöhne, hört! Auf euren Vater Israel hört jetzt!"
3 Ruben, you [are] my firstborn, you my strength, and the first of my children, hard to be endured, [hard and] self-willed.
"Ruben! Mein Erstling du, du meine Kraft, du Erstling meiner Stärke! Aufrechter Pflock! Du starker Pflock!
4 You were insolent like water, burst not forth with violence, for you went up to the bed of your father; then you defiled the couch, whereupon you went up.
Des Wassers Überschwang sei nimmer dir zu eigen! Denn du erstiegest deines Vaters Bett, entweihtest mit Gewalt mein Lager."
5 Symeon and Levi, brethren, accomplished the injustice of their cutting off.
"Simeon und Levi! Das Brüderpaar. Des Unrechts Waffen waren ihre Schwerter.
6 Let not my soul come into their counsel, and let not mine inward parts contend in their conspiracy, for in their wrath they killed men, and in their passion they houghed a bull.
Nicht möchte meine Seele ihrem Plane beitreten! Nicht möchte mein Gemüt mit ihrem Anschlag sich befreunden! In ihrem Zorne mordeten sie Männer, verstümmelten in ihrer Laune Stiere.
7 Cursed be their wrath, for it was wilful, and their anger, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.
Verflucht ihr Zorn, der stark, ihr Grimm, so hart! Und so verteile ich in Jakob sie, zerstreue sie in Israel."
8 Juda, your brethren have praised you, and your hands shall be on the back of your enemies; your father's sons shall do you reverence.
"Dich, Juda, sollen deine Brüder preisen! Am Nacken deiner Feinde deine Hand! Die Söhne deines Vaters neigen sich vor dir.
9 Juda is a lion's whelp: from the tender plant, my son, you are gone up, having couched you lie as a lion, and as a whelp; who shall stir him up?
Ein junger Leu ist Juda. Mein Sohn, vom Raube stiegest du empor. Er kauert, lagert wie der Leu, wie eine Löwin. Wer mag ihn reizen?
10 A ruler shall not fail from Juda, nor a prince from his loins, until there come the things stored up for him; and he is the expectation of nations.
Nicht weicht das Zepter je von Juda und nie der Herrscherstab von ihm, bis sein Ersehnter kommt, auf den die Völker hören.
11 Binding his foal to the vine, and the foal of his ass to the branch [of it], he shall wash his robe in wine, and his garment in the blood of the grape.
Sein Eselsfüllen bindet er an einen Weinstock und an die Edelrebe seiner Eselin Junges. Er wäscht in Wein sein Kleid, im Traubenblute sein Gewand.
12 His eyes shall be more cheering than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.
Von Wein die Augen fröhlich, die Zähne weiß von Milch."
13 Zabulon shall dwell on the coast, and he [shall be] by a haven of ships, and shall extend to Sidon.
"Und Zabulon wohnt an dem Meeresstrand und fährt auf Schiffen, und seine Flanke reicht an Sidon."
14 Issachar has desired that which is good; resting between the inheritances.
"Issakar ist ein starker Esel, der zwischen Höhen lagert.
15 And having seen the resting place that it was good, and the land that it was fertile, he subjected his shoulder to labour, and became a husbandman.
Er fand, daß Ruhe etwas Schönes und daß das Land gar prächtig. So beugte er zum Tragen seinen Nacken und ward ein Fronknecht."
16 Dan shall judge his people, as one tribe too in Israel.
"Und Dan schafft seinem Volke Recht, wie einer nur von Israels Stämmen.
17 And let Dan be a serpent in the way, besetting the path, biting the heel of the horse (and the rider shall fall backward),
Am Weg ist eine Schlange Dan und eine Hornviper am Pfad; sie beißt das Roß in seine Hinterfüße, und rückwärts stürzt sein Reiter.
18 waiting for the salvation of the Lord.
Auf Deine Hilfe hoff ich, Herr."
19 Gad, a plundering troop shall plunder him; but he shall plunder him, [pursuing him] closely.
"Den Gad umdrängt die Raubschar; doch schon drängt er dem Nachtrab nach."
20 Aser, his bread [shall be] fat; and he shall yield dainties to princes.
"Von Asser stammt gar fette Speise; er liefert königliche Leckerbissen."
21 Nephthalim is a spreading stem, bestowing beauty on its fruit.
"Und Naphtali ist eine heilige Hirschkuh, die schöne Lämmer wirft."
22 Joseph is a son increased; my dearly loved son is increased; my youngest son, turn to me.
"Ein Stier ist Joseph, ein Stier an einer Quelle. Jungmänner ziehen gegen diesen Stier.
23 Against whom men taking evil counsel reproached [him], and the archers pressed hard upon him.
Und ihn bedrängen Pfeilschützen, die ihn beschießen und ihm zusetzen.
24 But their bow and arrows were mightily consumed, and the sinews of their arms were slackened by the hand of the mighty one of Jacob; thence is he that strengthened Israel from the God of your father;
Doch wird ihr Bogen unbiegsam, und ihrer Hände Arme zittern vor dem Jakobsfürsten und vor des Israelsohnes Hirten.
25 and my God helped you, and he blessed you with the blessing of heaven from above, and the blessing of the earth possessing all things, because of the blessing of the breasts and of the womb,
Dir helfe deines Vaters Gott, und der Allmächtige segne dich mit Himmelssegen oben, mit Segnungen der Tiefe drunten, mit Segnungen an Brust und Schoß!
26 the blessings of your father and your mother—it has prevailed above the blessing of the lasting mountains, and beyond the blessings of the everlasting hills; they shall be upon the head of Joseph, and upon the head of the brothers of whom he took the lead.
Die Segenswünsche deines Vaters, sie übertreffen jene meiner Eltern, den Wunsch der alten Hirten. Gelangen mögen sie auf Josephs Haupt, ja auf den Scheitel des Geweihten unter seinen Brüdern!"
27 Benjamin, as a ravening wolf, shall eat still in the morning, and at evening he gives food.
"Ein räuberischer Wolf ist Benjamin; am Morgen frißt er Raub und abends teilt er Beute."
28 All these [are] the twelve sons of Jacob; and their father spoke these words to them, and he blessed them; he blessed each of them according to his blessing.
All diese sind die zwölf Stämme Israels, und dies war es, was ihr Vater zu ihnen gesprochen hat. Er segnete sie; jeden segnete er mit seinem besonderen Segen.
29 And he said to them, I am added to my people; you shall bury me with my fathers in the cave, which is in the field of Ephron the Chettite,
Und er beschied sie und sprach zu ihnen: "Ich gehe nun zu meinem Volke ein. Begrabet mich bei meinen Vätern in der Höhle auf dem Feld des Chittiters Ephron,
30 in the double cave which is opposite Mambre, in the land of Chanaan, the cave which Abraam bought of Ephron the Chettite, for a possession of a sepulchre.
in jener Höhle auf dem Feld der Makpela, Mamre gegenüber im Lande Kanaan, auf jenem Feld, das Abraham von dem Chittiter Ephron zum Erbbegräbnis gekauft!
31 There they buried Abraam and Sarrha his wife; there they buried Isaac, and Rebecca his wife; there they buried Lea;
Dort hat man Abraham begraben und sein Weib Sara. Dort hat man Isaak begraben und sein Weib Rebekka; dort habe auch ich Lea begraben,
32 in the portion of the field, and of the cave that was in it, [purchased] of the sons of Chet.
auf jenem Felde und in der Höhle, die von den Söhnen Chets stammt."
33 And Jacob ceased giving charges to his sons; and having lifted up his feet on the bed, he died, and was gathered to his people.
Als Jakob die Aufträge an seine Söhne beendet hatte, zog er seine Füße auf dem Bett ein, verschied und ward zu seinen Vätern versammelt.
