Psalms 80

1 For the end, for alternate [strains], a testimony for Asaph, a Psalm concerning the Assyrian. Attend, O Shepherd of Israel, who guidest Joseph like a flock; thou who sittest upon the cherubs, manifest thyself;

Au chef de musique. Sur Shoshannim. Témoignage d’Asaph. Psaume. Berger d’Israël! prête l’oreille. Toi qui mènes Joseph comme un troupeau, toi qui es assis entre les chérubins, fais luire ta splendeur!

2 before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasse, stir up thy power, and come to deliver us.

Devant Éphraïm, et Benjamin, et Manassé, réveille ta puissance, et viens nous sauver!

3 Turn us, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be delivered.

Ô Dieu! ramène-nous; et fais luire ta face, et nous serons sauvés.

4 O Lord God of hosts, how long art thou angry with the prayer of thy servant?

Éternel, Dieu des armées! jusques à quand ta colère fumera-t-elle contre la prière de ton peuple?

5 Thou wilt feed us with bread of tears; and wilt cause us to drink tears by measure.

Tu leur as fait manger un pain de larmes, et tu les as abreuvés de larmes à pleine mesure.

6 Thou has made us a strife to our neighbours; and our enemies have mocked at us.

Tu as fait de nous un sujet de contestation pour nos voisins, et nos ennemis se moquent [de nous] entre eux.

7 Turn us, O Lord God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. (Pause)

Ô Dieu des armées! ramène-nous; et fais luire ta face, et nous serons sauvés.

8 Thou hast transplanted a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.

Tu as transporté d’Égypte un cep; tu as chassé les nations, et tu l’as planté;

9 Thou madest a way before it, and didst cause its roots to strike, and the land was filled [with it].

Tu as préparé une place devant lui, il a poussé des racines, et a rempli le pays.

10 Its shadow covered the mountains, and its shoots [equalled] the goodly cedars.

Les montagnes étaient couvertes de son ombre, et ses sarments étaient [comme] des cèdres de Dieu;

11 It sent forth its branches to the sea, and its shoots to the river.

Il étendait ses pampres jusqu’à la mer, et ses pousses jusqu’au fleuve.

12 Wherefore hast thou broken down its hedge, while all that pass by the way pluck it?

Pourquoi as-tu rompu ses clôtures, de sorte que tous ceux qui passent le pillent?

13 The boar out of the wood has laid it waste, and the wild beast has devoured it.

Le sanglier de la forêt le déchire, et les bêtes des champs le broutent.

14 O God of hosts, turn, we pray thee: look on [us] from heaven, and behold and visit this vine;

Ô Dieu des armées! retourne, je te prie; regarde des cieux, et vois, et visite ce cep,

15 and restore that which thy right hand has planted: and look on the son of man whom thou didst strengthen for thyself.

Et la plante que ta droite a plantée, et le provin que tu avais fortifié pour toi.

16 [It is] burnt with fire and dug up: they shall perish at the rebuke of thy presence.

Elle est brûlée par le feu, elle est coupée; ils périssent, parce que tu les tances.

17 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, and upon the son of man whom thou didst strengthen for thyself.

Que ta main soit sur l’homme de ta droite, sur le fils de l’homme que tu as fortifié pour toi:

18 So will we not depart from thee: thou shalt quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

Et nous ne nous retirerons pas de toi. Fais-nous revivre, et nous invoquerons ton nom.

19 Turn us, O Lord God of hosts, and make thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Éternel, Dieu des armées! ramène-nous; fais luire ta face, et nous serons sauvés.
