Psalms 19

1 For the end, a Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims the work of his hands.

Auf den Siegesspender, ein Lied, von David. Die Himmel rühmen Gottes Ehre: das Sterngewölbe kündet seiner Hände Werk.

2 Day to day utters speech, and night to night proclaims knowledge.

Die Botschaft raunt ein Tag dem andern zu, und eine Nacht tut sie der andern kund.

3 There are no speeches or words, in which their voices are not heard.

Nicht Reden sind's, nicht Worte, die nicht vernehmlich klängen.

4 Their voice is gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.

Ihr Schall durchtönt die ganze Erde, und ihre Laute dringen bis zum Rand der Welt. Ein Zelt ist auf ein Jahr dort für den Sonnenball,

5 In the sun he has set his tabernacle; and he comes forth as a bridegroom out of his chamber: he will exult as a giant to run his course.

der, einem Bräutigam gleich, aus seiner Kammer tritt und freudig, wie ein Krieger, seine Bahn durchläuft,

6 His going forth is from the extremity of heaven, and his circuit to the [other] end of heaven: and no one shall be hidden from his heat.

der von dem Rand des Himmels seinen Ausgang hat, an seinen Grenzen seinen Umschwung nimmt, vor dessen Strahlen nichts verborgen bleibt.

7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting souls: the testimony of the Lord is faithful, instructing babes.

Des Herrn Gesetz ist makellos und eine Seelenspeise. Des Herrn Verordnung ist bewährt und macht die Toren weise.

8 The ordinances of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is bright, enlightening the eyes.

Des Herrn Befehle sind gerecht, Gemüt und Herz erfreuend. Des Herrn Gebot ist tadellos und spendet Licht den Augen.

9 The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring for ever and ever: the judgments of the Lord are true, [and] justified altogether.

Die Furcht des Herrn ist unfehlbar, auf ewig unvergänglich. Die Satzungen des Herrn sind wahr, gerecht befunden allzumal,

10 To be desired more than gold, and much precious stone: sweeter also than honey and the honey-comb.

kostbarer noch als Gold, als feinstes Gold in Menge; und süßer noch als Honigseim und Waben.

11 For thy servant keeps to them: in the keeping of them [there is] great reward.

Vorsichtig geht Dein Knecht mit ihnen um, verwendet vielen Fleiß auf ihr Befolgen.

12 Who will understand [his] transgressions? purge thou me from my secret [sins].

Doch wer ist jeden Irrtums sich bewußt? Von unbewußten Schwächen sprich mich los!

13 And spare thy servant [the attack] of strangers: if they do not gain the dominion over me, then shall I be blameless, and I shall be clear from great sin.

Beschütze Deinen Knecht auch vor mutwilligen Verfehlungen! Sie mögen mich nicht überwältigen! Dann bin ich ohne Tadelund bleibe völlig frei von Missetat.

14 So shall the sayings of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be pleasing continually before thee, O Lord my helper, and my redeemer.

Gefallen laß Dir meines Mundes Worte und meines Herzens Sinnen, mein Hort und mein Erlöser, Du mein Herr!
