Malachias 1

1 The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by the hand of his messenger. Lay [it], I pray you, to heart.

L’oracle de la parole de l’Éternel à Israël par Malachie.

2 I have loved you, saith the Lord. And ye said, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the Lord: yet I loved Jacob,

Je vous ai aimés, dit l’Éternel; et vous dites: En quoi nous as-tu aimés? Ésaü n’était-il pas frère de Jacob? dit l’Éternel; et j’ai aimé Jacob;

3 and hated Esau and laid waste his borders, and made his heritage as dwellings of the wilderness?

et j’ai haï Ésaü, et j’ai fait de ses montagnes une désolation, et [j’ai livré] son héritage aux chacals du désert.

4 Because one will say, Idumea has been overthrown, but let us return and rebuild the desolate places; thus saith the Lord Almighty, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called The borders of wickedness, and, The people against whom the Lord has set himself for ever.

Si Édom dit: Nous sommes détruits, mais nous rebâtirons ce qui est ruiné, – ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées: Ils bâtiront, mais moi, je renverserai, et on les appellera contrée de méchanceté, et le peuple contre lequel l’Éternel est indigné à toujours.

5 And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The Lord has been magnified upon the borders of Israel.

Et vos yeux le verront, et vous direz: L’Éternel sera magnifié par-delà les confins d’Israël.

6 A son honours [his] father, and a servant his master: if then I am a father, where is mine honour? and if I am a master, where is my fear? saith the Lord Almighty. Ye the priests are they that despise my name: yet ye said, Wherein have we despised thy name?

Un fils honore son père, et un serviteur, son maître. Si donc je suis père, où est mon honneur? et si je suis maître, où est la crainte qui m’est due? dit l’Éternel des armées, à vous, sacrificateurs, qui méprisez mon nom. Et vous dites: En quoi avons-nous méprisé ton nom?

7 In that ye bring to mine altar polluted bread; and ye said, Wherein have ye polluted it? In that ye say, The table of the Lord is polluted, and that which was set thereon ye have despised.

Vous présentez sur mon autel du pain souillé, et vous dites: En quoi t’avons-nous profané? En ce que vous dites: La table de l’Éternel est méprisable.

8 For if ye bring a blind [victim] for sacrifices, [is it] not evil? and if ye bring the lame or the sick, [is it] not evil? offer it now to thy ruler, [and see] if he will receive thee, if he will accept thy person, saith the Lord Almighty.

Et si vous présentez une [bête] aveugle en sacrifice, n’est-ce pas mal? et si vous [en] présentez une boiteuse et malade, n’est-ce pas mal? Offre-la donc à ton gouverneur: t’agréera-t-il, ou te recevra-t-il avec faveur? dit l’Éternel des armées.

9 And now intreat the face of your God, and make supplication to him. These things have been done by your hands; shall I accept you? saith the Lord Almighty.

Et maintenant, implorez donc Dieu, afin qu’il use de grâce envers nous. C’est par vos mains que cela a eu lieu: vous recevra-t-il avec faveur? dit l’Éternel des armées.

10 Because even among you the doors shall be shut, and [one] will not kindle [the fire of] mine altar for nothing, I have no pleasure in you, saith the Lord Almighty, and I will not accept a sacrifice at your hands.

Qui même d’entre vous fermerait les portes? et vous n’allumeriez pas [le feu] sur mon autel pour rien! Je ne prends pas plaisir en vous, dit l’Éternel des armées, et l’offrande, je ne l’agréerai pas de vos mains.

11 For from the rising of the sun even to the going down [thereof] my name has been glorified among the Gentiles; and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure offering: for my name is great among the Gentiles, saith the Lord Almighty.

Car, du soleil levant jusqu’au soleil couchant, mon nom sera grand parmi les nations, et, en tout lieu, l’encens sera brûlé à mon nom, et une offrande pure sera présentée, car mon nom sera grand parmi les nations, dit l’Éternel des armées.

12 But ye profane it, in that ye say, The table of the Lord is polluted, and his meats set thereon are despised.

Mais vous, vous le profanez, en ce que vous dites: La table du Seigneur est souillée; et ce qu’elle fournit, sa nourriture, est méprisable.

13 And ye said, These [services] are troublesome: therefore I have utterly rejected them with scorn, saith the Lord Almighty: and ye brought in torn victims, and lame, and sick: if then ye should bring an offering, shall I accept them at your hands? saith the Lord Almighty.

Et vous dites: Voilà, quel ennui! et vous soufflez dessus, dit l’Éternel des armées, et vous apportez ce qui a été déchiré, et la [bête] boiteuse, et la malade; c’est ainsi que vous apportez l’offrande. Agréerais-je cela de votre main? dit l’Éternel.

14 And cursed [is the man] who had the power, and possessed a male in his flock, and whose vow is upon him, and who sacrifices a corrupt thing to the Lord: for I am a great King, saith the Lord Almighty, and my name is glorious among the nations.

Et maudit est celui qui trompe, et qui a dans son troupeau un mâle, et fait un vœu et sacrifie au Seigneur ce qui est corrompu; car je suis un grand roi, dit l’Éternel des armées, et mon nom est terrible parmi les nations.
