Joshua 7
1 But the children of Israel committed a great trespass, and purloined [part] of the accursed thing; and Achar the son of Charmi, the son of Zambri, the son of Zara, of the tribe of Juda, took of the accursed thing; and the Lord was very angry with the children of Israel.
എന്നാൽ അർപ്പിതവസ്തുക്കളെ സംബന്ധിച്ച് ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ അവിശ്വസ്തത കാണിച്ചു. യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട സേരഹിന്റെ മകൻ സബ്ദിയുടെ മകനായ കർമിയുടെ മകൻ ആഖാൻ അർപ്പിതവസ്തുക്കളിൽ ചിലത് എടുത്തു. അതുകൊണ്ട് ഇസ്രായേലിനു വിരോധമായി യഹോവയുടെ കോപം ജ്വലിച്ചു.
2 And Joshua sent men to Gai, which is by Baethel, saying, Spy out Gai: and the men went up and spied Gai.
യോശുവ യെരീഹോവിൽനിന്ന് ബേഥേലിനു കിഴക്കു ബേത്-ആവെനു സമീപമുള്ള ഹായിയിലേക്ക് ആളുകളെ അയച്ച് അവരോട്, “നിങ്ങൾചെന്ന് ആ പ്രദേശം പര്യവേക്ഷണംചെയ്യുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ ചെന്ന് ഹായി പര്യവേക്ഷണംചെയ്തു.
3 And they returned to Joshua, and said to him, Let not all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and take the city by siege: carry not up thither the whole people, for [the enemy] are few.
അവർ യോശുവയുടെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിവന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അറിയിച്ചത്, “ഹായിക്കുനേരേ സൈന്യമെല്ലാം പോകേണ്ട ആവശ്യമില്ല. അതു പിടിക്കുന്നതിനു രണ്ടായിരമോ മൂവായിരമോ ജനത്തെമാത്രം അയയ്ക്കുക; എല്ലാവരെയും കഷ്ടപ്പെടുത്തേണ്ടാ. കാരണം, അവിടെ കുറച്ചു ജനംമാത്രമേയുള്ളൂ.”
4 And there went up about three thousand men, and they fled from before the men of Gai.
അതുകൊണ്ട് ഏകദേശം മൂവായിരംപേർ അങ്ങോട്ടുപോയി; എന്നാൽ ഹായിയിലെ ആളുകൾ ഇസ്രായേല്യരോടെതിരിട്ട് അവരെ തോൽപ്പിച്ചു,
5 And the men of Gai slew of them to the number of thirty-six men, and they pursued them from the gate, and destroyed them from the steep hill; and the heart of the people was alarmed and became as water.
അവരിൽ മുപ്പത്താറുപേരെ കൊന്നു. അവരെ പട്ടണകവാടംമുതൽ ശെബാരീംവരെ പിൻതുടർന്നു, മലഞ്ചെരിവിൽവെച്ച് അവരെ തോൽപ്പിച്ചു. ഇതിനാൽ ജനത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഭയത്താൽ ഉരുകി വെള്ളംപോലെയായിത്തീർന്നു.
6 And Joshua tore his garments; and Joshua fell on the earth on his face before the Lord until evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they cast dust on their heads.
അപ്പോൾ യോശുവ വസ്ത്രംകീറി യഹോവയുടെ പേടകത്തിനുമുമ്പിൽ നിലത്തു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു. സന്ധ്യവരെ അവിടെ കിടന്നു. ഇസ്രായേല്യ ഗോത്രത്തലവന്മാരും തലയിൽ പൊടിവാരിയിട്ടുകൊണ്ട് അപ്രകാരംചെയ്തു.
7 And Joshua said, I pray, Lord, wherefore has thy servant brought this people over Jordan to deliver them to the Amorite to destroy us? would we had remained and settled ourselves beyond Jordan.
യോശുവ ഇപ്രകാരം പറഞ്ഞു: “കർത്താവായ യഹോവേ! ഞങ്ങളെ നശിപ്പിക്കാൻ അമോര്യരുടെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന് ഈ ജനത്തെ അവിടന്ന് എന്തിനുവേണ്ടി യോർദാന് ഇക്കരെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു? ഞങ്ങൾ യോർദാനക്കരെ താമസിച്ചാൽ മതിയാകുമായിരുന്നല്ലോ!
8 And what shall I say since Israel has turned his back before his enemy?
കർത്താവേ, അവിടത്തെ ദാസനോട് ക്ഷമിക്കണമേ. ഇസ്രായേലിനെ ശത്രുക്കൾ തകർത്തശേഷം ഇനി ഞാൻ എന്താണു പറയേണ്ടത്?
9 And when the Chananite and all the inhabitants of the land hear it, they shall compass us round and destroy us from off the land: and what wilt thou do [for] thy great name?
കനാന്യരും ദേശത്തെ മറ്റ് ആളുകളും ഈ വിവരം അറിഞ്ഞ് ഞങ്ങളെ ചുറ്റിവളയുകയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ പേര് ഭൂമിയിൽനിന്ന് തുടച്ചുമാറ്റുകയും ചെയ്യുമല്ലോ. എന്നാൽ, അങ്ങ് അവിടത്തെ മഹത്തായ നാമത്തിനുവേണ്ടി എന്തുചെയ്യും?”
10 And the Lord said to Joshua, Rise up; why hast thou fallen upon thy face?
യഹോവ യോശുവയോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു: “എഴുന്നേൽക്കുക; നീ സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണുകിടക്കുന്നതെന്തിന്?
11 The people has sinned, and transgressed the covenant which I made with them; they have stolen from the cursed thing, and put it into their store.
ഇസ്രായേൽ പാപംചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; അവർ പാലിക്കാൻ ഞാൻ കൽപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള എന്റെ ഉടമ്പടി അവർ ലംഘിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. അവർ അർപ്പിതവസ്തുക്കളിൽ ചിലത് എടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു. അവർ മോഷ്ടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, കള്ളം പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു, തങ്ങളുടെ വസ്തുവകകൾക്കിടയിൽ അവ ഒളിപ്പിച്ചുമിരിക്കുന്നു.
12 And the children of Israel will not be able to stand before their enemies; they will turn their back before their enemies, for they have become an accursed thing: I will not any longer be with you, unless ye remove the cursed thing from yourselves.
അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കൾക്ക് അവരുടെ ശത്രുക്കൾക്കുനേരേ നിൽക്കാൻ സാധിക്കാതെപോയത്. അവർ തങ്ങൾക്കുതന്നെ നാശംവരുത്തിയതിനാൽ പുറംതിരിഞ്ഞ് ഓടേണ്ടിവന്നു. നശിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിനായി അർപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടവയെല്ലാം നശിപ്പിക്കാതെ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടി ഇനിയും ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കുകയില്ല.
13 Rise, sanctify the people and tell them to sanctify themselves for the morrow: thus says the Lord God of Israel, The accursed thing is among you; ye shall not be able to stand before your enemies, until ye shall have removed the cursed thing from among you.
“പോയി, ജനത്തെ ശുദ്ധീകരിക്ക. അവരോട് പറയുക, നാളത്തേക്കു തയ്യാറാകേണ്ടതിനു നിങ്ങളെത്തന്നെ ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കുക; ഇസ്രായേലേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിൽ അർപ്പിതവസ്തുക്കൾ ഇരിപ്പുണ്ട്. അവ നീക്കംചെയ്യുന്നതുവരെ നിങ്ങൾക്കു ശത്രുക്കളെ എതിരിടാൻ സാധിക്കുകയില്ല,” എന്ന് ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.
14 And ye shall all be gathered together by your tribes in the morning, and it shall come to pass that the tribe which the Lord shall shew, ye shall bring by families; and the family which the Lord shall shew, ye shall bring by households; and the household which the Lord shall shew, ye shall bring man by man.
“‘രാവിലെ, നിങ്ങൾ ഗോത്രംഗോത്രമായി അടുത്തുവരണം. യഹോവ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിക്കുന്ന ഗോത്രം കുലംകുലമായി അടുത്തുവരണം; യഹോവ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിക്കുന്ന കുലം കുടുംബങ്ങളായി അടുത്തുവരണം; യഹോവ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിക്കുന്ന കുടുംബം ആളാംപ്രതി അടുത്തുവരണം.
15 And the man who shall be pointed out, shall be burnt with fire, and all that he has; because he has transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and has wrought wickedness in Israel.
അർപ്പിതവസ്തുക്കളുമായി പിടിക്കപ്പെടുന്നവനെയും അവനുള്ള സകലത്തെയും തീയിൽ ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളയണം; അവൻ യഹോവയുടെ ഉടമ്പടി ലംഘിക്കുകയും ഇസ്രായേലിൽ അപമാനമായതു പ്രവർത്തിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.’”
16 And Joshua rose up early, and brought the people by their tribes; and the tribe of Juda was pointed out.
അങ്ങനെ യോശുവ അതിരാവിലെ ഇസ്രായേലിനെ ഗോത്രംഗോത്രമായി വരുത്തി; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രം പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
17 And it was brought by their families, and family of the Zaraites was pointed out.
യെഹൂദാഗോത്രം കുലംകുലമായി വന്നു; സേരഹിന്റെ കുലം പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. സേരഹിന്റെ കുലത്തെ കുടുംബങ്ങളായി വരുത്തി. സബ്ദി പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
18 And it was brought man by man, and Achar the son of Zambri the son of Zara was pointed out.
യോശുവ സബ്ദിയുടെ കുടുംബത്തെ ആളാംപ്രതി വരുത്തി; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട സേരഹിന്റെ പുത്രൻ സബ്ദിയുടെ പുത്രൻ കർമിയുടെ പുത്രൻ ആഖാൻ പിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
19 And Joshua said to Achar, Give glory this day to the Lord God of Israel, and make confession; and tell me what thou hast done, and hide it not from me.
അപ്പോൾ യോശുവ ആഖാനോട്, “എന്റെ മകനേ, ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയ്ക്കു മഹത്ത്വംകൊടുക്കുക, അവിടത്തെ ബഹുമാനിക്കുക. നീ എന്തു ചെയ്തുവെന്ന് എന്നോടു മറച്ചുവെക്കാതെ പറയുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
20 And Achar answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel: thus and thus have I done:
ആഖാൻ മറുപടി നൽകി, “ശരിയാണ്, ഞാൻ ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയ്ക്കെതിരായി പാപംചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.
21 I saw in the spoil an embroidered mantle, and two hundred didrachms of silver, and one golden wedge of fifty didrachms, and I desired them and took them; and, behold, they are hid in my tent, and the silver is hid under them.
ഞാൻ ഇതാണു ചെയ്തത്: കൊള്ളയുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ മനോഹരമായ ഒരു ബാബേല്യ മേലങ്കിയും ഇരുനൂറു ശേക്കേൽ വെള്ളിയും അൻപതുശേക്കേൽ തൂക്കമുള്ള ഒരു സ്വർണക്കട്ടിയും കണ്ടപ്പോൾ അവ മോഹിക്കുകയും എടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അവ എന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിൽ നിലത്തു കുഴിച്ചിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; വെള്ളി അടിയിൽ ആകുന്നു.”
22 And Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent into the camp; and these things were hidden in his tent, and the silver under them.
യോശുവ ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു. അവർ കൂടാരത്തിലേക്ക് ഓടി. അവന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിൽ വെള്ളി അടിയിലായി അവ ഒളിച്ചുവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു;
23 And they brought them out of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and the elders of Israel, and they laid them before the Lord.
അവ കൂടാരത്തിൽനിന്നെടുത്ത് യോശുവയുടെയും എല്ലാ ഇസ്രായേൽമക്കളുടെയും അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; യഹോവയുടെമുമ്പാകെ നിരത്തിയിട്ടു.
24 And Joshua took Achar the son of Zara, and brought him to the valley of Achor, and his sons, and his daughters, and his calves, and his asses, and all his sheep, and his tent, and all his property, and all the people [were] with him; and he brought them to Emec Achor.
അപ്പോൾ യോശുവയും എല്ലാ ഇസ്രായേലുംകൂടെ സേരഹിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ആഖാനെ, വെള്ളി, മേലങ്കി, സ്വർണക്കട്ടി, അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ, പുത്രിമാർ, മാട്, കഴുത, ആട്, കൂടാരം ഇങ്ങനെ അവനുള്ള സകലവുമായി ആഖോർതാഴ്വരയിൽ കൊണ്ടുപോയി.
25 And Joshua said to Achar, Why hast thou destroyed us? the Lord destroy thee as at this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones.
യോശുവ ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു: “നീ ഈ അത്യാഹിതം ഞങ്ങളുടെമേൽ വരുത്തിവെച്ചത് എന്തിന്? ഇന്ന് യഹോവ നിന്റെമേലും അത്യാഹിതം വരുത്തും.” പിന്നെ ഇസ്രായേലെല്ലാം ആഖാനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞു, മറ്റുള്ളവരെയും കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞതിനുശേഷം അവരെ ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു.
26 And they set up over him a great heap of stones; and the Lord ceased from his fierce anger. Therefore he called the place Emecachor until this day.
ആഖാന്റെമേൽ അവർ ഒരു വലിയ കൽക്കൂന കൂട്ടി. അത് ഇപ്പോഴും അവിടെയുണ്ട്. അങ്ങനെ യഹോവയുടെ ഉഗ്രകോപം മാറി. അതുകൊണ്ട് ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന് ആഖോർ താഴ്വര എന്ന് ഇന്നും പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.
