Job 3
1 After this Job opened his mouth, and cursed his day,
DOPO questo, Giobbe aprì la sua bocca, e maledisse il suo giorno.
2 saying,
E prese a dire:
3 Let the day perish in which I was born, and that night in which they said, Behold a man-child!
Possa perire il giorno nel quale io nacqui, E la notte che fu detto: Un maschio è nato.
4 Let that night be darkness, and let not the Lord regard it from above, neither let light come upon it.
Quel giorno sia tenebroso; Iddio non ne abbia cura da alto, E non risplenda la luce sopra esso.
5 But let darkness and the shadow of death seize it; let blackness come upon it;
Tenebre, ed ombra di morte rendanlo immondo; La nuvola dimori sopra esso; [Queste cose] rendanlo spaventevole, quali [sono] i giorni più acerbi.
6 let that day and night be cursed, let darkness carry them away; let it not come into the days of the year, neither let it be numbered with the days of the months.
Caligine ingombri quella notte; Non rallegrisi fra i giorni dell'anno, Non sia annoverata fra i mesi.
7 But let that night be pain, and let not mirth come upon it, nor joy.
Ecco, quella notte sia solitaria, Non facciansi in essa canti alcuni.
8 But let him that curses that day curse it, [even] he that is ready to attack the great whale.
Maledicanla coloro che maledicono i giorni, I quali son [sempre] apparecchiati a far nuovi lamenti.
9 Let the stars of that night be darkened; let it remain [dark], and not come into light; and let it not see the morning star arise:
Oscurinsi le stelle del suo vespro; Aspetti la luce, ma non ne [venga] alcuna, E non vegga le palpebre dell'alba;
10 because it shut not up the gates of my mother's womb, for [so] it would have removed sorrow from my eyes.
Perciocchè non serrò gli usci del seno di mia madre, E non fece sì che gli occhi miei non vedessero l'affanno.
11 For why died I not in the belly? and [why] did I not come forth from the womb and die immediately?
Perchè non morii io dalla matrice? [Perchè] non trapassai come prima uscii del seno?
12 and why did the knees support me? and why did I suck the breasts?
Perchè mi furono pòrte le ginocchia? Perchè le mammelle, acciocchè io poppassi?
13 Now I should have lain down and been quiet, I should have slept and been at rest,
Conciossiachè ora giacerei, e mi riposerei; Io dormirei, [e] pezzo fa sarei in riposo,
14 with kings [and] councillors of the earth, who gloried in [their] swords;
Con i re, e con i consiglieri della terra, I quali edificavano i luoghi deserti;
15 or with rulers, whose gold was abundant, who filled their houses with silver:
Ovvero co' principi, che aveano dell'oro, Ed empievano le lor case d'argento;
16 or [I should have been] as an untimely birth proceeding from his mother's womb, or as infants who never saw light.
Ovvero anche [del tutto] non sarei stato, come un abortivo nascosto, Come il feto che non ha veduta la luce.
17 There the ungodly have burnt out the fury of rage; there the wearied in body rest.
Quivi cessano gli empi di travagliare [altrui], E quivi si riposano gli stanchi.
18 And the men of old time have together ceased to hear the exactor's voice.
Parimente i prigioni hanno requie, [E] non odono [più] la voce del sollecitator delle opere.
19 The small and great are there, and the servant that feared his lord.
Quivi [è] il piccolo e il grande; E il servo franco del suo signore.
20 For why is light given to those who are in bitterness, and life to those souls which are in griefs?
Perchè dà egli la luce al miserabile, E la vita a coloro che sono in amaritudine d'animo?
21 who desire death, and obtain it not, digging [for it] as [for] treasures;
I quali aspettano la morte, e pure ella non [viene]; E la ricercano più che tesori nascosti;
22 and would be very joyful if they should gain it?
E si rallegrano, fino a festeggiarne, E gioiscono, quando hanno trovato il sepolcro.
23 Death [is] rest to [such] a man, for God has hedged him in.
[Perchè dà egli la luce] all'uomo, la cui via [è] nascosta, E il quale Iddio ha assiepato d'ogn'intorno?
24 For my groaning comes before my food, and I weep being beset with terror.
Conciossiachè, avanti [che io prenda] il mio cibo, il mio sospiro venga, E i miei ruggiti si versino come acqua.
25 For the terror of which I meditated has come upon me, and that which I had feared has befallen me.
Perchè ciò di che io avea spavento mi è avvenuto, E mi è sopraggiunto quello di che avea paura.
26 I was not at peace, nor quiet, nor had I rest; yet wrath came upon me.
Io non ho avuta tranquillità, nè riposo, nè quiete; Ed è venuto il turbamento.
