Esias 64

1 If thou wouldest open the heaven, trembling will take hold upon the mountains from thee, and they shall melt,

Zerrissest Du doch jetzt den Himmel und stiegest nieder, daß die Berge abermals vor Dir erbebten!

2 as wax melts before the fire; and fire shall burn up the enemies, and thy name shall be manifest among the adversaries: at thy presence the nations shall be troubled,

So, wie beim Feuerbrand das Feuer Wasser wallen macht, so laß, um Deinen Namen Deinen Feinden kundzutun, die Heidenvölker vor Dir beben!

3 whenever thou shalt work gloriously; trembling from thee shall take hold upon the mountains.

Furchtbares tu, was wir gar nicht erwarten, und komm herab, daß Berge vor Dir beben!

4 From of old we have not heard, neither have our eyes seen a God beside thee, and thy works which thou wilt perform to them that wait for mercy.

Nie höre man von einem Gott, und nie vernehme man dergleichen, und nie erblicke außer Dir ein Auge einen, der also wirkt für die, die seiner harren!

5 For [these blessings] shall happen to them that work righteousness, and they shall remember thy ways: behold, thou wast angry and we have sinned; therefore we have erred,

Komm dem entgegen, der des Rechten sich erfreuend, es tut und Deiner eingedenk, auf Deinen Wegen bleibt! Doch jetzt bist Du's, der grollt, und wir versündigten uns stets dagegen und waren ungehorsam.

6 and we are all become as unclean, and all our righteousness as a filthy rag: and we have fallen as leaves because of our iniquities; thus the wind shall carry us [away].

Wir wurden alle wie befleckt, und wie ein unrein Tuch, so waren alle unsere Werke der Gerechtigkeit. Wir alle welkten hin wie Laub; doch sturmesgleich wird unsere Missetat uns fortreißen.

7 And there is none that calls upon thy name, or that remembers to take hold on thee: for thou hast turned thy face away from us, and hast delivered us up because of our sins.

Doch Deinen Namen ruft nicht einer an, und keiner ist, der sich aufrüttelte, um sich an Dich zu klammern; denn Du verbirgst vor uns Dein Angesicht und gibst uns unsern Missetaten preis.

8 And now, O Lord, thou art our Father, and we are clay, all [of us] the work of thine hands.

Und doch bist Du, Herr, unser Vater. Wir sind der Lehm, Du unser Bildner, wir alle Deiner Hände Werk.

9 Be not very wroth with us, and remember not our sins for ever; but now look on [us], for we are all thy people.

Zürne nicht maßlos, Herr! Ach, denk nicht immer an die Sünde! Schau her! Wir sind doch alle Deines Volkes Glieder.

10 The city of thy holiness has become desolate, Sion has become as a wilderness, Jerusalem a curse.

Verheert sind Deine heiligen Städte, und Sion ist zur Wüste, Jerusalem zur Wüstenei geworden.

11 The house, our sanctuary, and the glory which our fathers blessed, has been burnt with fire: and all our glorious things have gone to ruin.

Ach, unser heilig, prachtvoll Haus, wo unsere Väter Dich gepriesen, ist ein Raub der Flammen! All unsere Augenweide ward ein Trümmerhaufen.

12 And for all these things thou, O Lord, has withholden, thyself, and been silent, and hast brought us very low.

Kannst Du darob noch an Dich halten, Herr? Kannst Du so lange schweigen? Kannst Du so lange uns hinhalten?
