Esias 60

1 Be enlightened, be enlightened, O Jerusalem, for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.

Auf! Werde Licht! Dein Licht will kommen; die Herrlichkeit des Herrn strahlt über dir.

2 Behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and [there shall be] gross darkness on the nations: but the Lord shall appear upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

Denn Finsternis bedeckt die Erde und Wolkendunkel die Nationen. Doch über dir erstrahlt der Herr, und über dir strahlt seine Herrlichkeit.

3 And kings shall walk in thy light, and nations in thy brightness.

Bei deinem Lichte wandeln Heidenvölker und Könige im Glanze deines Strahlens.

4 Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold thy children gathered: all thy sons have come from far, and thy daughters shall be borne on [men's] shoulders.

Auf, erhebe deine Augen! Schau ringsumher! Sie alle sammeln sich und kommen zu dir her. Aus weiter Ferne kommen deine Söhne, und deine Töchter werden auf der Hüfte hergetragen.

5 Then shalt thou see, and fear, and be amazed in thine heart; for the wealth of the sea shall come round to thee, and of nations and peoples; and herds of camels shall come to thee,

Du siehst es und erstrahlst; dein Herz erbebt und regt sich freudig; denn plötzlich strömt zu dir des Meeres Reichtum und kommen zu dir her der Heidenvölker Schätze.

6 and the camels of Madiam and Gaepha shall cover thee: all from Saba shall come bearing gold, and shall bring frankincense, and they shall publish the salvation of the Lord.

Dann deckt dich der Kamele Schwall, von Midian und Epha junge Tiere. Von Saba kommen sie zuhauf und tragen Gold und Weihrauch her und künden froh des Herren Ruhmestaten.

7 And all the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered, and the rams of Nabaeoth shall come; and acceptable sacrifices shall be offered on my altar, and my house of prayer shall be glorified.

Dir werden alle Schafe Kedars zugetrieben, und Nabatäas Widder stehen dir zu Diensten. Auf meinen Altar kommen sie zum Wohlgefallen, und also schmücke ich mein herrlich Haus. -

8 Who are these [that] fly as clouds, and as doves with young ones to me?

Wer sind doch jene, die herbei wie Wolken fliegen, wie Tauben schnell zu ihren Schlägen?

9 The isles have waited for me, and the ships of Tharsis among the first, to bring thy children from afar, and their silver and their gold with them, and [that] for the sake of the holy name of the Lord, and because the Holy One of Israel is glorified.

Die Küstenländer mühen sich für mich, voran die Tarsisschiffe, und bringen aus der Ferne deine Söhne heim, - mit ihnen auch ihr Silber und ihr Gold, zu Ehren deines Herrn und Gottes, des Heiligen Israels, der dich verherrlicht.

10 And strangers shall build thy walls, and their kings shall wait upon thee: for by reason of my wrath I smote thee, and by reason of mercy I loved thee.

Und deine Mauern bauen Ausländer, und ihre Könige bedienen dich. Ich habe dich in meinem Groll geschlagen; nun tue ich dir wieder wohl in meiner Liebe.

11 And thy gates shall be opened continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; to bring in to thee the power of the Gentiles, and their kings as captives.

Beständig stehen deine Tore offen, unverschlossen Tag und Nacht, daß man der Heiden Reichtum bei dir einführe mit ihren Königen, umgeben von Geleiten.

12 For the nations and the kings which will not serve thee shall perish; and those nations shall be made utterly desolate.

Denn Volk und Reich, das dir nicht dienen will, wird untergehn, und Heidenvölker werden völlig ausgerottet.

13 And the glory of Libanus shall come to thee, with the cypress, and pine, and cedar together, to glorify my holy place.

Die Pracht des Libanon kommt zu dir her, Zypressen, Fichten, Ulmen allzumal, um meine heilige Stätte auszuschmücken und meiner Füße Schemel zu verherrlichen.

14 And the sons of them that afflicted thee, and of them that provoked thee, shall come to thee in fear; and thou shalt be called Sion, the city of the Holy One of Israel.

Dir nahen sich, gebückt, die Söhne deiner Unterdrücker und werfen sich zu deinen Füßen nieder, sie alle, die dich einst verhöhnt. Sie heißen dich "Die heilige Stadt des Herrn", "Sion des Heiligen Israels".

15 Because thou has become desolate and hated, and there was no helper, therefore I will make thee a perpetual gladness, a joy of many generations.

Wie du verlassen warst, gehaßt und unbesucht, so mache ich dich jetzt zum ewigen Stolz, zur Wonne kommender Geschlechter.

16 And thou shalt suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt eat the wealth of kings: and shalt know that I am the Lord that saves thee and delivers thee, the Holy One of Israel.

Du trinkst der Heidenvölker Milch und nährst dich gar an königlicher Brust. Du sollst erfahren, daß ich, der Herr, dein Helfer bin und dein Befreier Jakobs Held.

17 And for brass I will bring thee gold, and for iron I will bring thee silver, and instead of wood I will bring thee brass, and instead of stones, iron; and I will make thy princes peaceable, and thine overseers righteous.

An Erzes Statt will ich dir Gold bescheren und statt des Eisens Silber, Erz statt der Hölzer, statt der Steine Eisen. Ich setze als Regierung dir den Frieden ein, als deinen Obern die Gerechtigkeit.

18 And injustice shall no more be heard in thy land, nor destruction nor misery in thy coasts; but thy walls shall be called Salvation, and thy gates Sculptured Work.

Nicht weiter hört man von Gewalt in deinem Land, in deinen Grenzen nichts von Druck und Drangsal; du heißest deine Mauern "Sieg" und deine Tore "Ruhm".

19 And thou shalt no more have the sun for a light by day, nor shall the rising of the moon lighten thy night; but the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and God thy glory.

Zum Tageslichte dient dir nicht die Sonne; noch braucht des Mondes Schimmer dir zu leuchten. Ein ewig Licht ist dir der Herr, dein Gott dein Strahlenkranz.

20 For the sun shall no more set, nor shall the moon be eclipsed; for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be completed.

Nie mehr geht deine Sonne unter; dein Mond verschwindet nicht. Ein ewig Licht ist dir der Herr; denn deine Trauertage sind vorbei.

21 Thy people also shall be all righteous; they shall inherit the land for ever, preserving that which they have planted, [even] the works of their hands, for glory.

Dein Volk - nur Fromme! Auf ewig werden sie das Land besitzen, als Sprößlinge von mir gepflanzt, als meiner Hände ehrenvolles Werk.

22 The little one shall become thousands, and the least a great nation; I the Lord will gather them in [due] time.

Der Kleinste wird zu einer Tausendschaft, zum starken Volke der Geringste. Ich bin der Herr, und ich beschleunige es plötzlich.
