Esias 41
1 Hold a feast to me, ye islands: for the princes shall renew [their] strength: let them draw nigh and speak together: then let them declare judgment.
Faites silence devant moi, îles; et que les peuples renouvellent leur force! Qu’ils s’approchent; … alors, qu’ils parlent! Approchons ensemble en jugement!
2 Who raised up righteousness from the east, [and] called it to his feet, so that it should go? shall appoint [it] an adversary of Gentiles, and shall dismay kings, and bury their swords in the earth, and cast forth their bows and arrows as sticks?
Qui, du levant, réveilla [celui] dont la justice accompagne les pas? Il livra les nations devant lui, et lui soumit les rois; il les livra à son épée comme de la poussière, et à son arc comme du chaume chassé [par le vent].
3 And he shall pursue them; the way of his feet shall proceed in peace.
Il les poursuivit; il passa en sûreté par un chemin où il n’était pas allé de ses pieds.
4 Who has wrought and done these things? he has called it who called it from the generations of old; I God, the first and to [all] futurity, I AM.
Qui a opéré et fait [cela], appelant les générations dès le commencement? Moi, l’Éternel, le premier; et, avec les derniers, je suis le Même.
5 The nations saw, and feared; the ends of the earth drew nigh, and came together,
Les îles le virent et eurent peur, les bouts de la terre tremblèrent: ils s’approchèrent et vinrent;
6 every one judging for his neighbor and [that] to assist his brother: and one will say,
ils s’entraidèrent l’un l’autre, et [chacun] dit à son frère: Sois fort.
7 The artificer has become strong, and the coppersmith that smites with the hammer, [and] forges also: sometimes he will say, It is a piece well joined: they have fastened them with nails; they will fix them, and they shall not be moved.
Et l’ouvrier fortifiait le fondeur; celui qui polit au marteau [fortifiait] celui qui frappe sur l’enclume, disant de la soudure: Elle est bonne; … et il l’a affermi avec des clous, afin qu’il ne branle pas.
8 But thou, Israel, art my servant Jacob, and he whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraam, whom I have loved:
Et toi, Israël, mon serviteur, Jacob, que j’ai choisi, semence d’Abraham mon ami,
9 whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, and from the high places of it I have called thee, and said to thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and I have not forsaken thee.
toi que j’ai pris des bouts de la terre et appelé de ses extrémités, et à qui j’ai dit: Tu es mon serviteur, je t’ai choisi et je ne t’ai pas rejeté; …
10 Fear not; for I am with thee: wander not; for I am thy God, who have strengthened thee; and I have helped thee, and have established thee with my just right hand.
ne crains point, car je suis avec toi; ne sois pas inquiet, car moi je suis ton Dieu. Je te fortifierai; oui, je t’aiderai; oui, je te soutiendrai par la droite de ma justice.
11 Behold, all thine adversaries shall be ashamed and confounded; for they shall be as if they were not: and all thine opponents shall perish.
Voici, tous ceux qui s’irritent contre toi, seront honteux et confondus; ils seront comme un rien, et les hommes qui contestent contre toi périront.
12 Thou shalt seek them, and thou shalt not find the men who shall insolently rage against thee: for they shall be as if they were not, and they that war against thee shall not be.
Tu les chercheras, et tu ne les trouveras pas, les hommes qui ont querelle avec toi; ils seront comme un rien et comme néant, les hommes qui te font la guerre.
13 For I am thy God, who holdeth thy right hand, who saith to thee,
Car moi, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, je tiens ta droite, [moi] qui te dis: Ne crains point, moi je t’aiderai.
14 Fear not, Jacob, [and thou] Israel few in number; I have helped thee, saith thy God, he that redeems thee, O Israel.
Ne crains point, toi Jacob, vermisseau! [et vous], hommes d’Israël! Moi je t’aiderai, dit l’Éternel, et ton rédempteur, le Saint d’Israël.
15 Behold, I have made thee as new saw-shaped threshing wheels of a waggon; and thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat the hills to powder, and make [them] as chaff:
Voici, j’ai fait de toi un traîneau à battre, tranchant, neuf, à doubles dents: tu battras les montagnes et tu les réduiras en poussière, et tu rendras les collines comme de la balle;
16 and thou shalt winnow [them], and the wind shall carry them away, and a tempest shall scatter them: but thou shalt rejoice in the holy ones of Israel.
tu les vanneras, et le vent les emportera, et le tourbillon les dispersera; et toi, tu t’égaieras en l’Éternel, tu te glorifieras dans le Saint d’Israël.
17 And the poor and the needy shall exult; for [when] they shall seek water, and there shall be none, [and] their tongue is parched with thirst, I the Lord God, I the God of Israel will hear, and will not forsake them:
Les affligés et les nécessiteux chercheront de l’eau, et il n’y en a pas, leur langue est desséchée par la soif: moi, l’Éternel, je leur répondrai, [moi], le Dieu d’Israël, je ne les abandonnerai pas.
18 but I will open rivers on the mountains, and fountains in the midst of plains: I will make the desert pools of water, and a thirsty land watercourses.
Je ferai couler des rivières sur les hauteurs, et des fontaines au milieu des vallées; je changerai le désert en un étang d’eau, et la terre aride en des sources jaillissantes.
19 I will plant in the dry land the cedar and box, the myrtle and cypress, and white poplar:
Je ferai croître dans le désert le cèdre, l’acacia, et le myrte, et l’olivier; je mettrai dans le lieu stérile le cyprès, le pin et le buis ensemble;
20 that they may see, and know, and perceive, and understand together, that the hand of the Lord has wrought these [works], and the Holy One of Israel has displayed [them].
afin qu’ils voient, et qu’ils sachent, et qu’ils considèrent, et qu’ils comprennent tous ensemble, que la main de l’Éternel a fait cela, et que le Saint d’Israël l’a créé.
21 Your judgment draws nigh, saith the Lord God; your counsels have drawn nigh, saith the King of Jacob.
Produisez votre cause, dit l’Éternel; apportez ici vos arguments, dit le roi de Jacob.
22 Let them draw nigh, and declare to you what things shall come to pass; or tell [us] what things were of old, and we will apply [our] understanding, and we shall know what are the last and the future things:
Qu’ils les apportent, et qu’ils nous déclarent ce qui arrivera. Déclarez les premières choses, ce qu’elles sont, afin que nous [y] fassions attention, et que nous en connaissions le résultat; ou faites-nous savoir celles qui viendront;
23 tell us, declare ye to us the things that are coming on at the last [time], and we shall know that ye are gods: do good, and do evil, and we shall wonder, and see at the same time
– déclarez les choses qui vont arriver dans la suite, et nous saurons que vous êtes des dieux; oui, faites du bien et faites du mal, afin que nous le considérions et le voyions ensemble.
24 whence ye are, and whence is your works: they have chosen you an abomination out of the earth.
Voici, vous êtes moins que rien, et votre œuvre est du néant: qui vous choisit est une abomination…
25 But I have raised up him that [comes] from the north, and him that [comes] from the rising of the sun: they shall be called by my name: let the princes come, and as potter's clay, and as a potter treading clay, so shall ye be trodden down.
Je l’ai réveillé du nord, et il vient, – du lever du soleil, celui qui invoquera mon nom. Et il marchera sur les princes comme sur de la boue, et comme le potier foule l’argile.
26 For who will declare the things from the beginning, that we may know also the former things, and we will say that they are true? there is no one that speaks beforehand, nor anyone that hears your words.
Qui l’a déclaré dès le commencement, afin que nous le sachions, et d’avance, afin que nous disions: C’est juste? Non, il n’y a personne qui le déclare; non, personne qui le fasse entendre; non, personne qui entende vos paroles.
27 I will give dominion to Sion, and will comfort Jerusalem by the way.
Le premier, [j’ai dit] à Sion: Voici, les voici! et à Jérusalem: Je donnerai un messager de bonnes nouvelles!
28 For from among the nations, behold, [there was] no one; and of their idols there was none to declare [anything]: and if I should ask them, Whence are ye? they could not answer me.
Et j’ai regardé, et il n’y avait personne – même parmi eux – et point de conseiller, pour leur demander, et avoir d’eux une réponse.
29 For [these] are your makers, [as ye think], and they that cause you to err in vain.
Voici, tous sont la vanité, leurs œuvres sont un néant, leurs images de fonte sont le vent et le vide.
