Osee 4

1 Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord [has] a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

ASCOLTATE la parola del Signore, figliuoli d'Israele; perciocchè il Signore ha una lite con gli abitanti del paese; perchè non [vi è] nè verità, nè benignità, nè conoscenza alcuna di Dio nel paese.

2 Cursing, and lying, and murder, and theft, and adultery abound in the land, and they mingle blood with blood.

[Non fanno altro] che spergiurare, e mentire, ed uccidere, e furare, e commettere adulterio; sono straboccati, un sangue tocca l'altro.

3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and shall be diminished with all that dwell in it, with the wild beasts of the field, and the reptiles of the earth, and with the birds of the sky, and the fish of the sea shall fail:

Perciò, il paese farà cordoglio, e chiunque abita in esso languirà, insieme con le bestie della campagna, e con gli uccelli del cielo; ed anche i pesci del mare morranno.

4 that neither any one may plead, nor any one reprove [another]; but my people are as a priest spoken against.

Pur nondimeno niuno litighi, e niuno riprenda; conciossiachè il tuo popolo somigli quelli che contendono col sacerdote.

5 Therefore they shall fall by day, and the prophet with thee shall fall: I have compared thy mother unto night.

Perciò, tu caderai di giorno, ed anche il profeta caderà di notte; ed io distruggerò tua madre.

6 My people are like as if they had no knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt not minister as priest to me: and [as] thou has forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.

Il mio popolo perisce per mancamento di conoscenza; perciocchè tu hai sdegnata la conoscenza, io altresì ti sdegnerò, acciocchè tu non mi eserciti il sacerdozio; e, perciocchè tu hai dimenticata la Legge dell'Iddio tuo, io altresì dimenticherò i tuoi figliuoli.

7 According to their multitude, so they sinned against me: I will turn their glory into shame.

Al pari che son cresciuti, han peccato contro a me; io muterò la lor gloria in vituperio.

8 They will devour the sins of my people, and will set their hearts on their iniquities.

Mangiano i peccati del mio popolo, ed hanno l'animo intento alla sua iniquità.

9 And the priest shall be as the people: and I will avenge on them their ways, and I will recompense to them their counsels.

Perciò, il sacerdote sarà come il popolo; ed io farò punizione sopra lui delle sue vie, e gli renderò la retribuzione dei suoi fatti.

10 And they shall eat, and shall not be satisfied: they have gone a-whoring, and shall by no means prosper: because they have left off to take heed to the Lord.

E mangeranno, ma non si sazieranno; fornicheranno, ma non moltiplicheranno; perciocchè han lasciato il servigio del Signore.

11 The heart of my people has gladly engaged in fornication and wine and strong drink.

La fornicazione, e il vino, e il mosto, tolgono il senno.

12 They asked counsel by [means of] signs, and they reported answer to them by their staves: they have gone astray in a spirit of whoredom, and gone grievously a-whoring from their God.

Il mio popolo domanda il suo legno, e il suo bastone gli dà avviso; perciocchè lo spirito delle fornicazioni fa traviare; ed essi fornicano, sottraendosi dall'Iddio loro.

13 They have sacrificed on the tops of the mountains, and on the hills they have sacrificed under the oak and poplar, and under the shady tree, because the shade was good: therefore your daughters shall go a-whoring, and your daughters-in-law shall commit adultery.

Sacrificano sopra le sommità de' monti, e fan profumi sopra i colli, sotto le querce, e i pioppi, e gli olmi; perciocchè la loro ombra [è] bella; perciò, le vostre figliuole fornicheranno, e le vostre nuore commetteranno adulterio.

14 And I will not visit upon your daughters when they shall commit fornication, nor your daughters-in-law when they shall commit adultery: for they themselves mingled themselves with harlots, and sacrificed with polluted ones, and the people that understood not entangled itself with a harlot.

Io non farò punizione delle vostre figliuole, quando avran fornicato; nè delle vostre nuore, quando avranno commesso adulterio: perciocchè essi si separono con le meretrici, e sacrificano con le cortigiane, perciò, il popolo che non ha intendimento caderà.

15 But thou, O Israel, be not ignorant, and go ye not, [men of] Juda, to Galgala; and go not up to the house of On, and swear not by the living Lord.

O Israele, se tu fornichi, Giuda [almeno] non rendasi colpevole; e non venite in Ghilgal, e non salite in Bet-aven; e non giurate: Il Signore vive.

16 For Israel was maddened like a mad heifer: now the Lord will feed them as a lamb in a wide place.

Perciocchè Israele è divenuto ritroso, a guisa di giovenca ritrosa; ora li pasturerà il Signore, a guisa di agnello in luogo spazioso.

17 Ephraim, joined with idols, has laid stumbling-blocks in his own way.

Efraim è congiunto con gl'idoli, lascialo.

18 He has chosen the Chananites: they have grievously gone a-whoring: they have loved dishonour through her insolence.

La lor bevanda si è rivolta, hanno fornicato senza fine; amano il Porgete; i rettori di questa [nazione sono] vituperosi.

19 Thou art a blast of wind in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their altars.

Il vento se la legherà nelle ale, ed essi saranno svergognati de' lor sacrificii.
