< 2 Kings 18 >

1 Now in the third year of Hoshea, son of Elah, king of Israel, Hezekiah, the son of Ahaz, became king of Judah.
In yac aktolu ke pacl Hoshea wen natul Elah el tokosra lun Israel, Hezekiah wen natul Ahaz, el tokosrala lun Judah
2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, ruling in Jerusalem for twenty-nine years; his mother's name was Abi, the daughter of Zechariah.
ke el yac longoul limekosr, ac el leum in Jerusalem ke yac longoul eu. Nina kial pa Abijah, acn natul Zechariah.
3 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord as David his father had done.
Hezekiah el oru ma su akinsewowoye LEUM GOD, oana ouiya lal Tokosra David, papa matu tumal.
4 He had the high places taken away, and the stone pillars broken to bits, and the Asherah cut down; and the brass snake which Moses had made was crushed to powder at his order, because in those days the children of Israel had offerings burned before it, and he gave it the name Nehushtan.
El kunausla acn in alu lun mwet pegan, kunausya sru eot, ac pakiya ma sruloala ke god mutan Asherah. El oayapa kotkoteya serpent bronze soko su pangpang Nehushtan ma Moses el tuh orala. Mwet Israel elos srakna akosak mwe keng in akfulatye serpent soko inge nwe in pacl sac.
5 He had faith in the Lord, the God of Israel; so that there was no one like him among all the kings of Judah who were before him.
Hezekiah el lulalfongi LEUM GOD lun Israel. Wangin tokosra lun mwet Judah meet lukel ku tok lukel oana el.
6 For his heart was fixed on the Lord, not turning from his ways, and he did his orders which the Lord gave to Moses.
El inse pwaye nu sin LEUM GOD, ac wangin pacl el tia aksol. El arulana karinganang ma sap nukewa su LEUM GOD El sang nu sel Moses.
7 And the Lord was with him; he did well in all his undertakings: and he took up arms against the king of Assyria and was his servant no longer.
Ouinge LEUM GOD El welul, ac wo ouiyal in ma nukewa el oru. El tuyak lain Tokosra Fulat lun Assyria, ac tiana eisalang nu sel.
8 He overcame the Philistines as far as Gaza and its limits, from the tower of the watchman to the walled town.
El kutangla mwet Philistia ac utyak eisla ma lalos in acn srisrik nwe ke siti lulap, weang acn Gaza ac acn ma raunela.
9 Now in the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea, son of Elah, king of Israel, Shalmaneser, king of Assyria, came up against Samaria, shutting it in with his armies.
In yac akakosr ke pacl Hezekiah el tokosra — su yac akitkosr ma Hoshea el leumi acn Israel — Tokosra Fulat Shalmaneser lun Assyria el utyak mweuni acn Israel ac kuhlusya Samaria.
10 And at the end of three years they took it; in the sixth year of Hezekiah's rule, which was the ninth year of Hoshea, king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
Ke yac aktolu ma kuhlusyuki acn we, Samaria ikori. Ma inge sikyak ke yac akonkosr ma Hezekiah el tokosra, ac yac akeu ma Hoshea el tokosra.
11 And the king of Assyria took Israel away as prisoners into Assyria, placing them in Halah and in Habor on the river Gozan, and in the towns of the Medes;
Tokosra Fulat lun Assyria el usla mwet Israel in mwet sruoh in acn Assyria, ac oakiya kutu selos in siti Halah, ac kutu apkuran nu ke Infacl Habor in acn Gozan, ac kutu in siti lun Media.
12 Because they did not give ear to the voice of the Lord their God, but went against his agreement, even against everything ordered by Moses, the servant of the Lord, and they did not give ear to it or do it.
Acn Samaria ikori, mweyen mwet Israel elos tia akos LEUM GOD lalos, a elos kunausla wulela ma El orala yorolos, ac seakos ma sap nukewa ma Moses mwet kulansap lun LEUM GOD el tuh sang nu selos. Elos tiana lungse porongo, ac tiana akos.
13 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came up against all the walled towns of Judah and took them.
In yac aksingoul akosr ke Tokosra Hezekiah el leum, Tokosra Fulat Sennacherib lun Assyria el mweuni siti ma potiyukyak lun Judah ac eisla acn inge.
14 And Hezekiah, king of Judah, sent to Lachish, to the king of Assyria, saying, I have done wrong; give up attacking me, and whatever you put on me I will undergo. And the payment he was to make was fixed by the king of Assyria at three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
Hezekiah el sapla nu sel Sennacherib su muta Lachish, ac fahk, “Tafongla ma nga oru. Nunak munas, tui ac tia mweuniyu, ac nga ac fah akfalye lupa na kom fahk nga in moli.” Ac Tokosra Fulat el topuk mu Hezekiah elan supwala longoul tausin paun in silver ac luo tausin paun in gold.
15 So Hezekiah gave him all the silver in the house of the Lord, and in the king's store-house.
Na Hezekiah el supwala silver nukewa ma oan in Tempul ac ma oan in nien filma saok inkul sin tokosra.
16 And at that time Hezekiah had the gold from the doors of the Lord's house, and from the door-pillars plated by him, cut off and gave it to the king of Assyria.
El oayapa takusla gold nukewa ma sang yunela srungul ke Tempul, ac gold ma el sifacna sang nawela sukan srungul, ac supwala ma inge nufon nu sel Sennacherib.
17 Then the king of Assyria sent the Tartan and the Rab-saris and the Rab-shakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem, to King Hezekiah, with a strong force. And they went up and came to Jerusalem, and took up their position by the stream of the higher pool, by the highway of the washerman's field.
Ke elos sun acn Jerusalem elos tui ke innek soko ma mwet owo nuknuk orekma we sisken na laf soko ma use kof ke lulu se ma oan lucng ah.
18 And they sent for the king, and Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, who was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, came out to them.
Na elos sapla solal Tokosra Hezekiah ac tolu sin mwet leum lal, ac som in osun nu selos. Elos inge pa Eliakim, wen natul Hilkiah su mwet liyaung inkul sin tokosra; Shebna, mwet sim ke inkul lun tokosra; ac Joah wen natul Asaph, su liyaung ma simusla.
19 And the Rab-shakeh said to them, Say now to Hezekiah, These are the words of the great king, the king of Assyria: In what are you placing your hope?
Sie sin mwet fulat lun acn Assyria inge fahkang nu selos lah Tokosra Fulat el ke etu lah mea Tokosra Hezekiah el kukin uh.
20 You say you have a design, and strength for war, but these are only words. Now to whom are you looking for support, that you have gone against my authority?
El fahk ouinge, “Ku kom nunku mu kas uh ku in sang lain ku lulap ac pisrla ke mweun? Su kom lulalfongi mu ac kasrekom lain acn Assyria?
21 See, now, you are basing your hope on that broken rod of Egypt, which will go through a man's hand if he makes use of it for a support; for so is Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to all who put their faith in him.
Kom lulalfongi mu Egypt ac kasrekom, tuh fin ouinge, ac oana ke kom sikalkin loa soko — ac kaptelik twe kanteya poum. Pa ingan luman tokosra Egypt nu sin mwet su tupan kasru sel uh.”
22 And if you say to me, Our hope is in the Lord our God: is it not he, whose high places and altars Hezekiah has taken away, saying to Judah and Jerusalem that worship may only be given before this altar in Jerusalem?
Ac mwet leum sac lun Assyria tafwela ac fahk, “Ku kom ac fahk nu sik lah kom ac lulalfongi na LEUM GOD lom an? Nien alu ac loang lun LEUM GOD pa Hezekiah el kunausla ke el tuh fahk nu sin mwet Judah ac Jerusalem elos in alu ke loang se in Jerusalem ah mukena.
23 And now, take a chance with my master, the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able to put horsemen on them.
Nga ac oru sie pwapa nu sum ke inen Tokosra Fulat. Nga ac sot nu sum tausin luo ke horse kom fin ku in konauk pisen mwet ma ac fal in kasrusr fac!
24 How then may you put to shame the least of my master's servants? and you have put your hope in Egypt for war-carriages and horsemen:
Finne mwet ma srik emeet wal la sin mwet leum lun Assyria, kom tia fal in lain, sruk kom lulalfongi mu mwet Egypt ac supwama chariot ac mwet kasrusr fin horse nu sum!
25 And have I now come up to send destruction on this place without the Lord's authority? It was the Lord himself who said to me, Go up against this land and make it waste.
Ya kom nunku mu nga mweuni facl sum an ac kunausla sayen kasru sin LEUM GOD? LEUM GOD sifacna El fahk nu sik mu ngan mweuni ac kunausla acn uh.”
26 Then Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna and Joah said to the Rab-shakeh, Will you kindly make use of the Aramaean language in talking to your servants, for we are used to it, and do not make use of the Jews' language in the hearing of the people on the wall.
Na Eliakim, Shebna, ac Joah fahk nu sin mwet leum sac, “Kaskas nu sesr ke kas Aramaic. Kut kalem kac. Nimet kas Hebrew, mweyen mwet nukewa fin pot uh elos lohng pac ma kom fahk an.”
27 But the Rab-shakeh said to them, Is it to your master or to you that my master has sent me to say these words? has he not sent me to the men seated on the wall? for they are the people who will be short of food with you when the town is shut in.
Ac el topuk, “Ku komtal nunku mu komtal na ac tokosra mukena pa Tokosra Fulat el supweyume ngan fahk ma inge nu se uh? Mo, nga tuku in fahk pac nu sin mwet ma muta fin pot an, su ac fah kang fohkoltal ac nim kifwaltal, oana komtal.”
28 Then the Rab-shakeh got up and said with a loud voice in the Jews' language, Give ear to the words of the great king, the king of Assyria;
Na mwet leum se inge tuyak ac sala ke kas Hebrew ac fahk, “Lohng ma Tokosra Fulat lun Assyria el fahk nu sumtal inge.
29 This is what the king says: Do not be tricked by Hezekiah, for there is no salvation for you in him.
El mu komtal in taran Hezekiah elan tia kiapwekomtalla. Hezekiah el tia ku in molikomtalla.
30 And do not let Hezekiah make you put your faith in the Lord, saying, The Lord will certainly keep us safe, and this town will not be given into the hands of the king of Assyria.
Ac nimet lela elan kifus komtal in filiya lulalfongi lomtal in LEUM GOD, mu El ac molikomtalla ac tulokinya mwet mweun lasr uh in tia sruokya siti sumtal an.
31 Do not give ear to Hezekiah, for this is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me; and everyone will be free to take the fruit of his vine and of his fig-tree, and the water of his spring;
Nimet lohng ma Hezekiah el fahk. Tokosra Fulat lun Assyria el sapkin nu sumtal in illa liki siti an ac srasrapo nu sel. Na el ac fah lela tuh kais sie sumtal in mongo ke fokin ima grape lal ac fokinsak fig sunal, ac nim kof ke luf in kof lal sifacna,
32 Till I come and take you away to a land like yours, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vine-gardens, a land of oil-giving olives and of honey, so that life and not death may be your fate. Give no attention to Hezekiah when he says to you, The Lord will keep us safe.
nwe ke Tokosra Fulat el sifilpa oakikomtal uh in sie facl su apkuran in oana facl sumtal, yen ma oasr ima in grape we in orek wain, ac oasr pac wheat in orek bread — sie facl oasr olive, ac oil in olive ac honey we. Komtal fin oru ma el sapkin inge komtal ac tia misa, a komtal ac moulna. Nimet lela Hezekiah elan kiapwekomtal mu LEUM GOD El ac molikomtalla.
33 Has any one of the gods of the nations kept his land from falling into the hands of the king of Assyria?
Ku oasr god lun kutena facl ma molela facl selos liki Tokosra Fulat lun Assyria?
34 Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena and Ivvah? have they kept Samaria out of my hands?
God lun Hamath ac Arpad eltal oasr ya inge? Ac pia god lun Sepharvaim, Hena, ac Ivvah? Ku oasr sie nu molela acn Samaria?
35 Who among all the gods of these countries have kept their country from falling into my hands, to give cause for the thought that the Lord will keep Jerusalem from falling into my hands?
Pia pacl ma god lun facl nukewa inge molela facl selos liki Tokosra Fulat lasr uh? Na mea oru komtal nunku mu LEUM GOD El ac ku in molela Jerusalem uh?”
36 But the people kept quiet and gave him no answer: for the king's order was, Give him no answer.
Mwet uh mihselik, oana ma Tokosra Hezekiah el tuh fahk nu selos, ac elos tiana fahkla sie kas.
37 Then Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, who was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah, with their clothing parted as a sign of grief, and gave him an account of what the Rab-shakeh had said.
Na Eliakim, Shebna, ac Joah eltal asor ac seya nuknuk laltal, ac eltal folokla ac fahkang nu sin tokosra ma mwet leum se lun Assyria el fahk ac.
