1 Corinthians 8

1 Now about things offered to images: we all seem to ourselves to have knowledge. Knowledge gives pride, but love gives true strength.

Was dann das Opferfleisch betrifft, so setzen wir voraus, daß wir alle die Erkenntnis haben. Die Erkenntnis bläht auf, die Liebe erbaut.

2 If anyone seems to himself to have knowledge, so far he has not the right sort of knowledge about anything;

Dünkt sich einer etwas erkannt zu haben, so hat er noch nicht erkannt, wie man erkennen muß.

3 But if anyone has love for God, God has knowledge of him.

Wenn aber einer Liebe zu Gott hat, der ist von ihm erkannt.

4 So, then, as to the question of taking food offered to images, we are certain that an image is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one.

Was also das Essen des Opferfleisches angeht: so wissen wir, daß kein Götze in der Welt ist, und daß es keinen Gott gibt außer dem einen.

5 For though there are those who have the name of gods, in heaven or on earth, as there are a number of gods and a number of lords,

Mag es auch sogenannte Götter geben, sei es im Himmel sei es auf Erden, - es sind ja der Götter viele und der Herrn viele -

6 There is for us only one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we are for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we have our being through him.

so gibt es doch für uns nur Einen Gott, den Vater, den Schöpfer aller Dinge, der unser Ziel ist, und Einen Herrn Jesus Christus, den Mittler aller Dinge, der auch unser Mittler ist.

7 Still, all men have not that knowledge: but some, being used till now to the image, are conscious that they are taking food which has been offered to the image; and because they are not strong in the faith, their minds are troubled.

Aber nicht bei allen ist die Erkenntnis zu Hause; da sind noch manche, die, bisher an die Götzen gewöhnt in ihren Gedanken, das Götzenopferfleisch als solches essen, und deren Gewissen, schwach wie es ist, dadurch befleckt wird.

8 But God's approval of us is not based on the food we take: if we do not take it we are no worse for it; and if we take it we are no better.

Nun, auf unser Essen kommt es nicht an vor Gott; wir sind nicht besser, wenn wir essen; wir sind nicht weniger, wenn wir nicht essen:

9 But take care that this power of yours does not give cause for trouble to the feeble.

dagegen sehet zu, daß die Macht, die ihr darin habt, nicht den Schwachen zum Anstoß werde.

10 For if a man sees you, who have knowledge, taking food as a guest in the house of an image, will it not give him, if he is feeble, the idea that he may take food offered to images?

Wenn einer dich mit deiner Erkenntnis im Götzenhause zu Tisch sitzen sieht, muß nicht sein Gewissen, da er doch ein Schwacher ist, dadurch ermutigt werden, Opferfleisch zu essen?

11 And so, through your knowledge, you are the cause of destruction to your brother, for whom Christ underwent death.

Da wird denn durch deine Erkenntnis der Schwache ins Verderben gestürzt, um dessentwillen Christus gestorben ist.

12 And in this way, doing evil to the brothers, and causing trouble to those whose faith is feeble, you are sinning against Christ.

Wenn ihr euch so an den Brüdern versündigt und ihr schwaches Gewissen verwundet, so sündigt ihr an Christus.

13 For this reason, if food is a cause of trouble to my brother, I will give up taking meat for ever, so that I may not be a cause of trouble to my brother. (aiōn g165)

Darum wenn das Essen meinem Bruder Anstoß gibt, so will ich in Ewigkeit kein Fleisch essen, damit ich meinem Bruder keinen Anstoß gebe. (aiōn g165)
