Deuteronomy 21
1 If one be found slain in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath smitten him;
१तुमचा देव परमेश्वर तुम्हास देणार असलेल्या प्रदेशात एखाद्याचा उघड्यावर खून झालेला आढळला आणि त्यास कोणी मारले हे कळाले नाही
2 then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain:
२तर तुमच्यापैकी वडीलधारे आणि न्यायाधीश यांनी पुढे येऊन मृतदेहापासून सभोवर पसरलेल्या गावांचे अंतर मोजावे.
3 and it shall be, that the city which is nearest unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take a heifer of the herd, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke;
३मग जो गाव प्रेताच्या सर्वात जवळचा असेल तेथील वडिलधाऱ्यांनी आपल्या कळपातील एक कालवड निवडावी. कधीही कामाला न जुंपलेली व अजून न व्यायलेली अशी ती गाय असावी.
4 and the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer’s neck there in the valley.
४मग वडीलधाऱ्याने कालवड वाहता झरा असलेल्या खोऱ्यांत आणावी. हे खोरे कधी पेरणी, नांगरणी न झालेले असावे. अशा ठिकाणी तीची मान कापावी.
5 And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them Jehovah thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of Jehovah; and according to their word shall every controversy and every stroke be.
५तेव्हा लेवी वंशातील याजकांनी यावेळी तिथे असावे. आपली सेवा करून घ्यायला आणि आपल्या वतीने लोकांस आशीर्वाद द्यायला तुमचा देव परमेश्वर ह्याने त्यांची याजक म्हणून निवड केली आहे. प्रत्येक वादात किंवा मारामारीत ते निवाडा करतील.
6 And all the elders of that city, who are nearest unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley;
६मग त्या खोऱ्यात, मृताच्या जवळच्या नगरातील वडील मनुष्यांनी, कालवड मारल्यावर तिच्यावर आपले हात धुवावे.
7 and they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.
७व स्पष्ट म्हणावे या व्यक्तीला “आमच्या हातून मरण आले नाही. ही घटना घडताना आम्ही पाहिली नाही.
8 Forgive, O Jehovah, thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and suffer not innocent blood [to remain] in the midst of thy people Israel. And the blood shall be forgiven them.
८हे परमेश्वरा, ज्या इस्राएल लोकांचा तू उद्धार केला आहेस. आम्हास शुद्ध कर. एका निरपराध व्यक्तीच्या हत्त्येबद्दल आम्हास दोषी धरु नकोस. त्या निरपराध व्यक्तीच्या हत्येचा दोष राहू देऊ नको. या रक्तपाताच्या दोषाची त्यांना क्षमा केली जावो.”
9 So shalt thou put away the innocent blood from the midst of thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah.
९याप्रमाणे परमेश्वराच्या दृष्टीने जे योग्य ते करून तुम्ही आपल्यामधून या निरअपराध मनुष्याच्या हत्येचा दोष तू काढून टाकावा.
10 When thou goest forth to battle against thine enemies, and Jehovah thy God delivereth them into thy hands, and thou carriest them away captive,
१०जेव्हा तू आपल्या शत्रूशी युद्ध करायला जाशील व देव परमेश्वर ह्याच्या साहाय्याने तुम्ही शत्रूला पराभूत कराल व त्यांना बंदीवान कराल.
11 and seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and thou hast a desire unto her, and wouldest take her to thee to wife;
११तेव्हा बंदिवानात एखादी सुंदर स्त्री पाहून तिच्यावर तू मोहीत झालास आणि लग्न करावे असे एखाद्याला वाटल्यास.
12 then thou shalt bring her home to thy house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;
१२तेव्हा त्याने तिला आपल्या घरी आणावे. तिने आपले केशवपन करावे व नखे कापावी.
13 and she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thy house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.
१३तिचे पहिले, युद्धकैदीचे द्योतक असलेले वस्त्रही काढून टाकावे. आपल्या आईवडीलांपासून दुरावल्याबद्दल तिने पूर्ण महिनाभर त्याच्या घरी शोक करावा. मग त्याने तिच्याजवळ जावे. म्हणजे तो तिचा पती व ती त्याची पत्नी होईल.
14 And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not deal with her as a slave, because thou hast humbled her.
१४पुढे त्यास ती आवडली नाहीतर त्याने घटस्फोट देऊन तिला मुक्त करावे. पण तिला पैसे देऊन विकू नये. तिला गुलाम म्हणून त्याने वागवता कामा नये. कारण त्याने तिच्याशी शरीरसंबंध ठेवला होता.
15 If a man have two wives, the one beloved, and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the first-born son be hers that was hated;
१५एखाद्याला दोन स्त्रिया असतील आणि त्याचे एकीवर दुसरीपेक्षा जास्त प्रेम असेल. दोघींना मुले असतील. पण नावडतीचा मुलगा सगळ्यात मोठा असेल.
16 then it shall be, in the day that he causeth his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved the first-born before the son of the hated, who is the first-born:
१६तर तो आपल्या मुलांना आपली संपत्ती त्याचे वतन म्हणून वाटून देईल तेव्हा नाआवडतीचा मुलगा ज्येष्ठ असताना त्याऐवजी आपल्या मालमत्तेची वाटणी करताना, त्याने आपल्या आवडतीच्या मुलाला जेष्ठत्वाचा हक्क देऊ नये.
17 but he shall acknowledge the first-born, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath; for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the first-born is his.
१७त्याने आपल्या ज्येष्ठ पुत्र नावडतीचा मुलगा असला तरी त्याचा स्वीकार केला पाहिजे. तसेच आपल्या एकंदर मालमत्तेतील दुप्पट वाटा त्यास दिला पाहिजे. कारण तो ज्येष्ठ पुत्र आहे. व त्यालाच जेष्ठपणाचा हक्क आहे.
18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, that will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and, though they chasten him, will not hearken unto them;
१८एखाद्याचा मुलगा हट्टी व बंडखोर, अजिबात न ऐकणारा, आईबापांना न जुमानणारा असेल शिक्षा केली तरी त्यांचे ऐकत नसेल.
19 then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;
१९अशावेळी आईवडीलांनी त्यास गावच्या चावडीवर वडीलधाऱ्यांपुढे न्यावे.
20 and they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.
२०या शहरातल्या वडीलधाऱ्यानी त्यांनी सांगावे की, हा उद्दाम व बंडखोर आहे. तसेच तो खादाड व मद्यपी आहे.
21 And all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones: so shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.
२१यावर त्या गावातील मनुष्यांनी या मुलाला दगडांनी मरेपर्यंत मारावे. असे केल्याने तुम्ही हे पाप आपल्यामधून काढून टाकाल. इस्राएलमधील इतर लोकांच्या कानावर ही गोष्ट गेली की ते घाबरुन राहतील.
22 And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree;
२२एखाद्याचा अपराध मुत्युदंड मिळण्याइतका मोठा असेल, अशावेळी त्याच्या देहांतानंतर लोक त्याचे प्रेत झाडाला टांगतील,
23 his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt surely bury him the same day; for he that is hanged is accursed of God; that thou defile not thy land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
२३तेव्हा ते रात्रभर झाडावर टांगलेले राहू देऊ नका. त्याच दिवशी कटाक्षाने त्याचे दफन करा. कारण झाडाला टांगलेल्या मनुष्यावर देवाचा शाप असतो. तुमचा देव परमेश्वर तुम्हास देणार असलेली भूमी अशी विटाळू नका.
